Chapter 48: chapter 47

Bihari Assistant for Nri BossWords: 3300

Rivaan sat in the waiting room, his fingers nervously fidgeting with the small velvet box in his pocket. He pulled it out and opened it, revealing the delicate diamond ring he had bought for Naina. He had planned to propose to her after she forgave him, after they had rebuilt what was lost between them. But now, staring at the ring, he wondered if it was too late. Fear gripped his heart. What if something happened to her? What if he never got the chance to make things right?

The minutes stretched into what felt like an eternity. Every sound, every footstep in the hallway made Rivaan jump, hoping it was news about Naina. He stared at the closed doors of the operating room, his heart pounding with dread. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her, not now, not ever.

Finally, after what seemed like more than a year, the doors swung open, and the doctor emerged. Rivaan shot up from his seat, his heart in his throat.

“The babies are okay,” the doctor said with a calm smile.

Rivaan’s breath caught in his chest. “And Naina?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. “Is she okay?”

The doctor nodded. “She’s okay. She’s resting now, but you’ll be able to see her once we move her to her room.”

A wave of relief washed over Rivaan, and for the first time in hours, he exhaled deeply. He felt the tension leave his body, but his legs still felt weak as he followed the doctor’s instructions, waiting outside the recovery room until he was allowed to see her.

When Rivaan finally stepped into the room, his heart ached as he saw Naina lying in the hospital bed, fast asleep. She looked so tired, her face pale but peaceful. Dark circles framed her eyes, and her body seemed fragile, but she was here. She had made it through. His heart swelled with a mix of love and guilt.

He walked to her side, gently brushing a strand of hair away from her face. Leaning down, he pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, the weight of everything they had been through overwhelming him. "I’m sorry," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I love you so much."

His gaze shifted to the side of the room, where the nurses had placed their babies—two tiny, perfect bundles wrapped in soft blankets. Rivaan's eyes welled with tears as he looked at them, his heart expanding with a kind of love he had never felt before. They were his. Their children.

He reached out to touch one of the babies’ tiny hands, marveling at how small and fragile they were. A soft smile spread across his face as he thought of the future they could have—the future he so desperately wanted to build with Naina by his side.

But as he stood there, watching over them, the fear still lingered. Would she forgive him? Could they start over? He clutched the ring in his hand again, unsure if he should even give it to her now. What if she didn’t want him in her life anymore? He couldn’t blame her if she didn’t.

But one thing was certain—he wasn’t going to lose her. Not after all they had been through. No matter what it took, he would prove to her that he loved her and would never leave her side.

He sat down beside Naina’s bed, watching her sleep, knowing he would wait as long as it took for her to wake up, to talk to her, and to tell her everything he hadn’t been able to say.
