Chapter 10
TESSAâS POV
âHey hey!â I heard Dylanâs voice say faintly in my head, heâs saying something but Iâm not listening, Iâm just watching his lips move without hearing a word heâs saying.
âAre you even listening?â He said fed up.
I looked away and held my feverish head in my hands.
âNo, no Iâm notâ I said truthfully.
He sighed and stood up.
âIâll be leaving now, take careâ He said bowing slightly before leaving.
I watched him go with mixed feelings.
â
Alone with my thoughts and children, I couldnât shake off the weight of the news he had brought. He had dropped a bombshell on me why was it even a bombshell? Was I seriously expecting him to wait for me? It seemed I had false hope, the entire thing just seemed absurd.
My wolf had gone silent, no doubt in pains and it refused to speak no matter how I tried to communicate to it.
âDaphe?â I said telepathically, she simply whimpered and went silent. I groaned and went into the house before it got completely dark.
A couple of minutes later, the creaking door was pushed open and Gabe walked in, a worn out expression on his face. I could make out his face from the dim part of the room where I sat.
âTessa, is that you?â He asked.
âYou canât smell me?â I asked weak
He forced a laugh
âOf course I can, I just wanted to hear you speakâ He said dropping his satchel on the wooden floor and crashing down on a chair. He must be tired.
âIâll fix you somethingâ I said getting up.
He motioned me to sit back with a gentle wave of his hands.
âDonât worry, the pack gave me some food⦠Bread and meat so weâll live on that for some daysâ
I smiled at the mention of bread. Living in the woods was no fun at all.
âI delivered the moonbloom successfullyâ I informed him
âHow was the pack doing?â He asked
I explained what happened while he listened with rapt attention. When I finished, he looked up at me.
âThatâs really good, Tessa. Iâm glad you put your knowledge to good use. I think youâd make a good healer, do you want to
learn more?â
I thought about the joy the boy family must have felt and smiled at Gabe.
âYes, I want to learn everythingâ I said.

âHow are your angels?â
I smiled brightly.
âThey are asleep, Dylanâs gone by the wayâ I said
B
âDo those mischievous children just like to sleep all day?â Gabe asked teasingly to which I forced a laugh. Gabe noticed the unusual atmosphere
âWhatâs wrong, Tessaâ the playful note in his voice was replaced by one filled with worry.
Tears crept up again to my droopy eyes and I sniffled.
âAdrianâ¦â I broke down into body wracking s obs.
Gabe stood up and came to me saying nothing but simply Patting my head.
âWhat happened?â Gabeâs tone was hard and serious.
âDylan told me that⦠Adrian has gotten a new Lunaâ I said wiping my tears away.
Gabeâs face didnât show shock as I expected, it was almost like he was expecting it.
âGabe, am Iâ¦am I a fool to believe that I could still make everything right and prove myself?â
Gabe kept silent and heaved a sigh
âNo, youâre not.â He finally said
Gabe wiped his face
âLook, Tessa. Itâs typical pack politics, I saw it comingâ He said.
His words were true but I didnât answer.
âTessa, you need to stop digging for answers now, youâre not emotionally prepared for this. You need time to heal completely, donât cause pain to yourself for nothingâ He advised.
I looked away, my heart aching
âYouâre probably right. I should forget about Adrian and silvermoon and everythingâ I said breathlessly
Gabe gave me a weird look.
âJust donât hurt yourselfâ He said.
I nodded, not trusting my voice to convey the tumultuous emotions swirling inside me..
âI need to step out for a stroll in the woodsâ I said getting up.
Gabe looked at the sky.
âItâs getting dark, be careful. Rogues are wild and roamingâ He cautioned.
I nodded before slipping out with a cloak, a shawl wrapped tightly round my face revealing only my eyes and a knife hidden in my cloak.
Lost in thoughts, I wandered deeper into the forest but before long, my reverie was shattered by the sound of rustling leaves and snapping twigs.
Instinctively, I pulled out my knife, my wolf on high alert but I couldnât smell anyone, there was only one type of danger I

couldnât smell â A wild rogue or a halt blood. I wasnât keen on meeting either.
Then I saw it, a hooded figure emerging from the Shadows, itâs presence foreboding
âIdentify yourselfâ I said, my voice steady despite the fear coursing through me
The figure remained silent, their features hidden beneath the darkness of their hood. My eyes examined him, there was something familiar about him, he was holding a knife but I could smell blood from him. It unnerved me.
âAnswer me!â I insisted, my grip tightening on the hilt of my sword.
Still, the figure said nothing, their silence unnerving me more than any words could. Itâs silence made the hair on my skin stand on ends.
âFine, have it your wayâ I said lunging forward with my knife, the figure was quick and dodged with ease. Despite my initial advantage. I found myself on the defensive.
âF uck! Why didnât I learn to fight or at least carry a gun?!â I cussed in my mind.
As our duel reached its climax, a sudden gust of wind swept through the trees, lifting the hood of the figureâs cloak and revealing the face hidden beneath.
Our knives were pointed at each otherâs throats as our eyes met and recognition washed over me.
âFenrir?â I asked
His icy blue eyes crinkled in confusion.
âHow do you know my name?â He asked pressing his knife closer to my neck.
