The boys had arrived at their destination. They were still in the Vanderwood city, but a good distance from the mansion.
Vinny had brought Oliver's bobble hat as well as his coat. He didn't know why, but he found Oliver extremely cute when he wore It.
As they pulled up into a parking lot, it was busy.
Members of the public were everywhere, which meant Jed had to stay focused on keeping the boys safe. There was more security here, but the boys didn't know that.
"Are you ready to get out? People are going to get excited" Vinny asked. He wished he had brought some sunglasses.
"Yeah," Oliver said whilst zipping up his coat.
Vinny then turned and opened the door. At first, nobody noticed until he got out and waited for Oliver.
This is when people began to talk and point. And of course, take pictures.
Oliver looked around when he put on his gloves and then his hat. The public was looking at them as Jed radioed his crew.
"Am I really that beautiful?" He asked sarcastically to Vinny.
"No," He said bluntly before taking his hand.
"Wow," Oliver sighed. "I'm blushing"
Vinny gave him a sideways glance, but they were both amused.
"Come here," He said softly before pulling Oliver into him. He put an arm around his shoulder as they walked. "You're so, beautiful"
Oliver grinned to himself as they walked through the public.
The public was definitely shocked to see Vinny. Most people here have never seen him in person before.
"Can you tell me where we're going now?" Oliver asked as they walked down a little trail that headed deeper into the woods.
"wait and see," Vinny said as he glared at people, but smiled at Oliver in-between. He was glad that his soulmate had never been here before.
As the boys passed more people, they got more stares. It was still a little odd for Oliver to go out somewhere and be stared at because of who he is.
"You okay?" Oliver asked as Vinny took his arm down from his shoulders and held his hand again.
"I'm working on it," He said as he tried avoiding the sun's glare as it shone between the trees.
"I think that's the last time we both drink for a while" He chuckled.
"Definitely" Vinny mumbled as someone nearly tripped with shock as they noticed who was walking past him. "I hate alcohol"
Oliver smiled. Everyone hates alcohol when they have a hangover like Vinny's.
Their surroundings were peaceful but busy. Vinny loves to come here in the winter and he usually comes by himself without anyone knowing, but he was quite excited that he could now share it with someone.
"Are we nearly there?" Oliver asked.
"And I thought I was impatient," Vinny said with a low chuckle. "But yes"
Oliver smiled and stepped closer when they were passing a random crowd.
After what they have been through, he finds it a little hard to trust people.
"Oh my gosh, look who it is!" An excited woman said as they walked passed. Oliver wondered why they got so surprised to see them, but if he was a member of the public he would probably stop and stare too.
Vinny could see Jed, walking through the trees. He wasn't that far away but if you didn't know he was around, you wouldn't see him.
But suddenly, like it appeared from nowhere, a huge waterfall appeared through the branches.
Oliver gawped at it as the trail widened and the trees subsided.
It was magnificently tall and very wide. The reason as to why Oliver couldn't hear it was because it was completely frozen over.
The shape of the water was very slick and smooth as a big chunk of ice covered the bottom, showing where the water hit the floor. The stream was also frozen too as it flowed through the valley.
"How have I never been here before?" Oliver asked as he let his gaze wander to the top of the icy waterfall.
Vinny was watching his reaction. he couldn't help but smile.
"I prefer it when it's not full of people" Vinny mumbled, which brought Oliver out of his daze.
"You would prefer it if your life was not full of people" Oliver chuckled. "But it is very busy"
They had both noticed that people were taking more pictures of them than the actual waterfall, but Oliver would enjoy looking through them on his phone later. He was considering changing his profile picture on Facebook to him and Vinny, just to see what reaction he would get.
In the past couple of weeks, he has avoided social media as it blew up in his face with messages and friend requests.
He might get Vinny to participate in a picture, that could be entertaining.
Vinny then walked forwards as Oliver followed. They both wanted to see the ice up close. You couldn't get close enough to touch it, but that didn't matter.
"How long have you been coming here?" Oliver asked, knowing that Vinny would've been visiting it for centuries.
"About, four thousand years. I think" Vinny said as he thought back to when he was first brought here. His parents were doing some ritual with the locals and he had to come because their village at the time, was under threat and fourteen-year-old Vinny wasn't allowed to stay by himself.
This was also before the Vampires decided to take charge of every city.
"Wow," Oliver said as his gaze wandered back to the many gallons of frozen water. "That is ridiculously long"
Vinny liked how his ageing process still blew Oliver's mind.
"It's not," Vinny said with a little smirk. "You just haven't lived"
Oliver scoffed and linked arms with his.
"Excuse me for not living for millions of years"
Vinny smiled at the exaggeration.
"Yes, excuse you"
Oliver shook his head and grinned.
"You're so old" He muttered but smirked.
Vinny sighed, but his eyes showed that he was amused. He then stood behind Oliver and coiled his arms around his waist. He rested his chin on his shoulder as they both gazed at the waterfall.
"This just shows how cold it is," Oliver said as he rested his back against Vinny's chest.
"Are you feeling cold?" He asked as he rested the side of his face into Oliver's cheek.
"A little bit, but it's alright" Oliver smiled. "You're nice and warm"
Vinny squeezed him a little tighter, but Oliver frowned.
"How are you always so warm?"
"I just am" Vinny shrugged.
"Good answer," Oliver said sarcastically, making Vinny roll his eyes.
* * * * *
The boys stayed at the waterfall for a little while, but the word got out that they were there and it got way too busy for Jed's liking. So they decided to go and get some lunch. Of course, that caused a stir of excitement, but the boys did a good job of ignoring everyone.
After that, they went to look around the centre of town as they had a lot of time to kill.
But that was a few hours ago.
"Just one more shop," Oliver said as he pulled on Vinny's arm and gave him puppy dog eyes.
"Oliver, that's not fair. You know I can't resist that face" Vinny grumbled as he leant against the outside of the shop window.
"I know" He grinned. He then kissed his cheek and quickly walking through the doors before Vinny had time to stop him.
He didn't like shopping and that was clear, but Oliver wasn't a huge fan either, he just hasn't been in town for a while.
Vinny then turned and watched as Jed casually followed him.
He didn't mind that Oliver wanted to look around and be normal for the day. It was the public who were annoying him.
Just then, his phone started ringing.
Vinny sighed and pulled it out from his pocket to see that it was his dad calling. Maybe the process had finished and it was safe for Oliver to come back home.
"Yes," He answered, it was rare that he answered with a hello.
"Vinny, is Oliver with you?" Duke asked desperately. Vinny frowned, he could tell there was something not quite right.
"What's wrong?" He asked as he watched Oliver through the window. He heard his dad sigh on the other end and he could hear his shaky breath.
"It's John," Duke said. "He had a heart attack."
