Emily Scott POV
I ran into the room where Emerson and Robyn were sleeping. I was so happy! Running into Emmie's room, I leaped up onto the bed and nuzzled on top of Emmie and Robyn. Emmie groaned in annoyance, but I didn't care. "Snow day, snow day! We have no school, yay!" I was bouncing over them and Emmie swatted a hand at me which I skillfully dodged.
I giggled while nudging Robyn. "Birdie, it's a snow day! Let's build a snowman!"
Birdie yawned and sat up, stretching and grossly popping his back. Ew. "Good morning, Emily. Isn't it a little too early?" he asked, squinting toward the dark window.
I rolled my eyes. "You should know the daylight hours are shorter in the winter. It's not that early."
Birdie ruffled my hair. "You smart cookie. Although, it doesn't matter how late in the day you wake Em up, he'll always be sleepy."
"You know what they say, the early bird catches the worm," I said. "We should build snowmen before it melts later today. And skate on the road before the salt trucks come through!"
"Well somebody has a lot of plans for a day you're supposed to catch up on sleep," Emmie finally said.
I lightly pushed him on the shoulder. "You get way too much sleep, especially for a high schooler. Liven up a bit."
Robyn snorted."Yeah, Em, liven up a bit. A fourth grader is telling you that."
Emmie surrendered. "Okay, okay, I wave my white flag. We can go outside, but you absolutely have to bundle up. There's no way you are missing more school than you have to. Don't want Mom to be mad, do we?"
I blew a raspberry and sighed. "Fine. Mom is gonna coddle me no matter what."
"Now go on and put your thermals, your pants, your shirt, your sweater, and your winter jacket. Don't forget to wear two pairs of socks, your mittens, hat, and scarf. Wear your winter boots, not your normal boots--"
"Okay, okay, please stop talking for Pete's sakes." I had to interrupt Emmie or else he would drone on for hours on end. "Mom is literally going to tell me the exact same thing."
Emerson laughed. "I know, it's protocol after all these years. I've memorized it by now. Did you get Mom's permission?"
"Duh, I asked her when I first woke up. She's downstairs having breakfast."
That got Emmie to hop out of bed. "Speaking of breakfast, let's eat."
Robyn pulled the blankets up higher. "Eh, give me a few minutes."
I huffed. "I'm not going to wait! You better hurry up or I'll throw a snowball while you lay in bed." Birdie just laughed and rested his back against the headboard with his hands over his head.
Emerson rolled his eyes and leaned over to Robyn to kiss him on the forehead. He straddled him and put his arms around his neck. "Let's go, Robyn. I bet I can make a better snowman than you."
Smiling, Robyn pecked Em on the corner of his mouth. "There are children present," he said as he winked at me. I wriggled my eyebrows back and crossed my arms. I predicted they would end up together since, like, forever ago. I was the first one to call it. But Mom seems to think differently.
I stuck my tongue out. "Bleh, all gross PDA and stuff. You guys are almost just as bad as Mom and Dad."
"If you kiddos don't come down here and eat breakfast, I'll never cook for y'all ever again!" my mom screamed from the kitchen.
Emmie leaned back, lightly blushing. "Speaking of Mom. Let's go. I don't want to be deprived of Mom's spaghetti for the rest of my life."
"You and me both!" I exclaimed, bolting out the door. I raced down the stairs, hollering, "Hi, Mommy!"
When I rounded the corner, my mother raised her eyebrows. "Hello, sweetie. Someone's eager to play in the snow. Why'd you leave them alone upstairs? I swear if they are doing some frisky business..." She trailed off and gave me a look.
"Don't worry, they're about to come down."
Right on cue, they both walked down the stairs, all giggly and such. Ew. "Oh, such young love. I can't wait for my grandkids." She sipped from her mug in an attempt to hide her big smile.
I laughed at the way Emerson's face contorted in embarrassment. "M-Mom! Too soon!"
Robyn wrapped his arm around Emmie's waist. "Nah, I already know the names of our first three children." He grinned down at Emmie with a smirk.
Emerson fanned himself, almost beet red. "I might faint." Then he buried his tomato face into Robyn's chest after my mother broke out in laughter very, very loudly. It sounded like there was a monkey in the kitchen. "Oh my gosh, please grant me the sweet release of death."
"Oh, come on, Em. Think of our kids!"
"I'm done!" Emmie yelled and quickly sat at the table, burying his face in his arms.
Mommy wiped a tear. "I haven't laughed this hard in a while."
When we got settled down, I started to stuff my face with pancakes. I chowed down on the wonderfully yummy, syrup-drowned pancakes. By the look on Mom's face, I knew what was coming. "Now, Emily, remember to put on your thermals, your pants, your shirt, your sweater, and your winter jacket. Don't forget to wear two pairs of socks, your mittens, hat, and scarf--"
"Wear your winter boots, not your normal boots. Shuffle if you're walking on the pavement as to not slip on the ice, yada-yada. Save me the speech."
My mom gasped. "The sass, young lady." She eyed Robyn and Emerson. "I blame this on you two."
Birdie gave a toothy, innocent grin. "I take no responsibility in this."
Emmie sighed. "It's those dang phones," he said in a Karen-like voice.
I snorted milk up my nose and started coughing. "Haha! You're funny, Emmie."
My older brother patted me on the head. "Thanks, Emily. Now finish up. It will take a while to get all those layers on. I'll clean up for you."
"Thanks!" I leapt out of my seat and hugged Emerson. "Love you, Emmie."
"Love you too, Emily."

"I hate this! I can't breathe," I complained that my movement was very restricted. I could barely bend my arms. I waddled over to the mirror and giggled. "I look like a marshmallow!"
"Yes you do," Robyn said, reaching over to pinch my cheeks under the scarf. "At least this marshmallow won't freeze."
I looked at what Birdie and Emmie were wearing and felt offended. "How come you guys don't bundle up as much?"
Emmie threw on my hat, blocking my vision. He hummed. "Well, we're older, therefore, we can handle the weather better."
I tried to cross my arms but that failed miserably when I couldn't even lift them. "That's stupid," I said, huffing in frustration.
Robyn gasped overdramatically. "Language!"
"I did not just hear the s-word from you!" Emerson said, teasing. He joined Birdie. "Oooh, I'll tell Mom."
I wrinkled my nose. "You both are as annoying as Anne. She's a snitch. And also stupid. Like your rules. It's not even a bad word."
"Emily!" They both said in unison.
Once again, I tried to put my arms up in surrender to no avail. "Fine, fine. I'll stop saying the word." Jokes on them I say it at school, hehe. "Let's go outside already!"
"Okay," Emerson said, then called out to Mommy. "Mom! We're heading out now!"
"Stay safe!" She yelled from her room upstairs.
Before we could even make it down the porch steps, Robyn slipped and slid down the paved walkway. "Ouch. Why does this seem like Deja Vu?"
Emerson laughed. "You? Slipping and falling is a normal occurrence. Like when we ice skated. Or when you play basketball.
Robyn raised an eyebrow. "Shut up. Now are you going to help me up or?"
"Nah I'll take a picture, it'll last longer." Emerson reached for his phone and Robyn tried to stop him, but ended up falling on his butt even harder. I couldn't stop laughing.
"Come here!" Robyn extended his arm out for anything to grasp onto. And that just so happened to be Emerson's arm, effectively pulling him down with him. Now they were a mess of tangled bodies on the slippery pavement covered in powdered snow. They were both laughing and it didn't seem like they were getting back up anytime soon.
I sidestepped them and walked in the snow covered grass because I was smart. But it was almost up to my knees. Slowly stepping through the thick snow, I walked over to a nice section of our yard. "This is a good spot!"
Robyn and Emerson eventually caught up to me, leaving holes in the ground where their legs stepped into. "This snow is at least a whole foot deep. It's been a while since the snow has been this deep."
"Let's get started!" I started to compact the snow into a ball, firmly pressing it together. Kinda like a sand castle. I just kept on adding more snow until we got a base. Then I felt snow hit the back of my head. I slowly turned around to meet the sight of Robyn with snowballs at his disposal. I gasped. "How dare you!" I trudged a few feet to avoid the snowballs and started to make my own. "This is war, Birdie!"
"Bring it on! Pfft! Peh!" I pointed and laughed at Robyn when he got a mouthful of snow.
Emmie threw that one. "Headshot!" He yelled, pumping his arm in joy.
"Oh, now that's just unfair now. Two against one. I'm outnumbered here."
"It's what you get!" Emphasis on that last word because that's when I threw the snowball into Robyn's eye.
"What's up with these headshots?" He asked, cocking his arm back in preparation to throw it. He managed to hit Emerson on the chest and leg. "Two points for Gryffindor!" He kept on missing me though. I was too fast and he was too slow.
"Please, we all know you're a Hufflepuff."
"I beg to differ!"
I threw another snowball.
This went on until we became tired and fell backwards into the snow. "Snow angels!" Then I moved my legs and arms next to Emmie and Birdie. Birdie's looked like twice the size of my Angel. "Hehe. It looks like Daddy, Mommy, and Baby angels."
Emerson stood up to admire our work. They all looked like they were holding hands. "That's cute." He rubbed his gloveless hands together.
Robyn took Emmie's hands into his, rubbing them together to create friction. "Aw, is someone cold?"
Emerson shivered. "Yeah." Robyn smirked with an idea. He gave me a subtle wink and unzipped his jacket. "What are youâ" Emmie started, but Robyn shushed him.
"Shh. Come here." He stood behind Emerson and wrapped himself and the jacket around the both of them, making sure to hold Emerson's hands.
"You guys look warm," I said, building my second snowman. After making a cute mini snowman, I dug through the snow that fell on our now dead garden to use pebbles as the eyes, buttons, and smile. I snapped some branches off the small tree and made it look like my snowman was disco dancing. I stepped back and sat on the porch to rest.
A guy in a red pickup truck honked his horn. "What the heck," Robyn muttered.
A few minutes later, the same truck came by, but this time he ran over our snowmen. I shrieked. "NOO! My snowmen! What a jerk." I ran over to what remained of my poor snowman.
Emmie's mouth was wide with shock. "What's his deal?!"
Birdie inhaled deeply. "I'm so close to cursing in front of Emily."
My brother smacked Robyn hard. "Don't you dare!"
"I'm gonna fight that guy!" I threatened.
Emmie shook his head. "Stay back. That guy is a big meanie. We can just make a bigger, better snowman."
I huffed one frustration because I was very mad. Don't tell Emmie, but I hoped the truck would slip and crash. Natural selection. "Ugh, fine. You guys need to help me."
And then we made another one. Except it was over the fire hydrant this time. Robyn had the best revenge plan. Like Emerson has said, it was bigger and better. Instead of the traditional carrot nose we just used a pine cone. This one was almost as tall as Robyn. I put my Barbie scarf around the snowman with the help of Birdie hoisting me up. "There! It looks really nice."
"I'm ready to see karma in action," Robyn said, popping his knuckles.
"Same," Emerson said, stuffing his cold hands into his pockets. Robyn stood behind Emerson, but this time, his hands were also stuffed in with Emerson's. We watched in anticipation and all cunningly grinned at each other when we could hear an obnoxious truck approaching.
Just like before, he was honking his horn. Robyn kindly flipped off the driver with a sweet smile right before he ran right into the fire hydrant. We all broke out in laughter and high-fived each other.
It was glorious, seeing revenge in action. The jerk driver was running around frantically with his phone while we sat on the porch in satisfaction.
I peered to my right to see Robyn and Emerson kissing. I made a face and stuck my tongue out, yelling, "PDA!"
They didn't stop, but I could see they were smiling. I looked away and kicked my feet happily in the air, watching my breath rise like smoke in the cold winter air. My mom brought us some hot coco and placed the mugs on the porch table, with mine having extra marshmallows. It was one of the best days of my life.
