'BEEP BEEP BEEP'
I shot up in bed, nearly smacking my head on the headboard. I rubbed at my eyes and cursed at the mysterious beeping that was echoing throughout the apartment. Then, the smell of something burning drifted to my nose and I shot up, sprinting to the kitchen, where I found my boyfriend throwing a pan into the sink. He reached up to shut off the fire alarm before turning to face me.
"What's going on in here?" I asked with an amused smile.
"Well...I wanted to surprise you with breakfast in bed and I looked up a recipe thinking I would be less likely to ruin it and accidentally poison you. I walked away for like two seconds and the damn eggs were burning!" I chuckled before walking over to him. He quickly wrapped me up in his arms and I stood on my tip toes to give him a soft kiss on his lips.
"Go sit down, I'll make breakfast, okay?" He pouted, but went and sat at the breakfast bar anyway. I quickly got to work, wiping down the mess Tobias had left before finding a new pan and the toaster. I found the eggs and bacon in the fridge and started cooking. Soon, the smell of bacon wafted through the air, the scent of Tobias' failed attempt at cooking beginning to disappear. I spooned some of the eggs onto two plates, as well as adding a few strips of bacon, just as the toast popped from the toaster. I spread each slice with butter and raspberry jam before adding them to the plates.
"It looks amazing, baby." Tobias complimented as I set his plate in front of him. I poured us both glasses of chocolate milk before I joined him.
"From now on, you are not allowed to touch the stove, the oven, the microwave, the toaster, or literally any other cooking device, unless I am helping, okay?" I chuckled. He mumbled something and ignored me, stuffing his cheeks with toast.
It didn't take long before we were both finished with our breakfast and the dishes were all washed.
"So what are we doing today?" I asked him, making my way to my bag that was left by the front door.
"Well, I was actually thinking of talking to my dad about meeting with the council first. Then maybe I could take you on a little tour of the land, and later tonight, I was hoping I could introduce you to the pack as my mate?" My body filled with nerves.
"What if they don't like me? I'm just a scrawny human. How can they trust me to lead a pack of gigantic wolves?" Tobias held me to his chest and rubbed my back soothingly.
"They will adore you, just like I do. If anyone has a problem with it, they will be banished from the pack." I pulled away and looked at him in shock.
"That's a bit harsh, don't you think? I mean, couldn't we talk to them at least? Separately I mean."
"What do you mean?"
"When you introduce me as your mate, there's gonna be a lot of doubt and fear among everyone about my ability as a luna. I'm a human, and also a guy. We should ask the people who are skeptical to stay back and we can talk to them, answer questions, try to relieve some worry. If there is anyone still completely against it, then you should consider banishment." He watched me for a moment before a large grin stretched across his face.
"And you think you're not a good luna." I blushed and nuzzled my face deeper into his bare chest.
"You really think I could be a good luna?" I felt him place a small kiss under my ear.
"I know you can." I pulled away and smiled brightly at him. He kissed me sweetly before I pulled away.
"We should probably get ready. Can I use your shower?"
"Of course, love. You don't need to ask." I just giggled and separated myself completely before making my way to my bag once again. I picked out another thick knitted sweater (they were warm and I could smack people with the sleeves, okay) in a nice charcoal grey, pairing it with olive skinny jeans and brown boots. I was pretty sure Holly had picked the boots from the women's section, but I wasn't complaining. They looked nice on me and I had small feet anyway.
"Towels are in the cabinet. Feel free to use any of the shampoo or whatever. If you don't like what's in the shower, look under the sink." I smiled and thanked him before making my way to the bedroom. I set my clothes on the bed and stepped into the bathroom. I shut the door and turned on the water. I noticed the soaps in the shower. They were all brands like Old Spice, Axe, and other 'manly man' scents, which smelt amazing on Tobias, but I preferred sweeter, softer smells. I checked the cupboard under the sink and began searching through the bottles. Finally, I found a bottle of strawberry scented shampoo, its matching conditioner, and a bottle of coconut body wash, all unopened. I grabbed a large fluffy towel from the cabinet and stripped quickly. I set the bottles on the edge of the tub. Before I stepped under the warm water.
I loved showers. They were so relaxing? Just standing under the soft warmth, letting it soothe your body. Baths were even better.
I finished my shower rather quickly, not wanting to keep Tobias waiting. I shut off the water, leaving the soaps I had picked out in the shower. I quickly dried my hair with my towel and wrapped it around my shoulders, much like a cape, except it covered everything. I stepped out of the bathroom and sighed in relief when I saw that Tobias wasn't in the bedroom. I got dressed quickly and put on my new glasses before making my way back to the living room.
"Hey, cutie. Nice shower?" Tobias was now dressed with a dark navy and black flannel, charcoal jeans that matched my sweater, and black Converse.
"Yes! I love your shower. I'm used to the water pelting my back like it was hailing. It was so soft and warm. I could've spent all day in there!" He chuckled and wrapped me in a hug, burying his head in my neck.
"You smell delicious, by the way." I blushed and squeaked when he nipped at the sensitive spot on my neck. He laughed and pulled away, gripping my hand.
"T-thank you." He took my hand in his and led me out of the apartment and to the elevator.
"Oh, I grabbed your phone for you. It's in my pocket." I thanked him and swung our hands as we waited for the elevator to arrive. It did a short time later.
"So we're seeing your dad first?"
"Yes, I linked him and he said to come right away." I gave him an odd look.
"Link?" He chuckled and kissed my head.
"Yes, link. Everyone in the pack can communicate through our minds. And you wanna know something super cool?" I looked up at him and nodded eagerly.
"Eventually, you will be able to link the pack as well, including me." My eyes widened as I stared at him in shock.
"What? Really?" The door to the elevator opened and Tobias led me down a long hallway.
"Yes. When we mate and I mark you, you will be able to link with me. Then, once the alpha and luna titles get passed down, you will officially be a member of the pack, so you will be able to communicate with all of us, and they will be able to communicate to you as well."
"That's freaking awesome. Anything else exciting that happens when we uh..." I trailed off, a blush appearing on my face.
"Mate?" He chuckled as I nodded into his chest. "You and I will be able to sense each other's emotions, as well as tell when there is something wrong with the other person. Like, if you get injured, I'll know. If you have a cold, I'll know. I'll feel it as well. Nowhere near what you would be feeling. I've been told it's more like tingling than pain. I mean, my father was right there in the room when both me and my brother were born, and he says it didn't hurt at all. It just felt like when your foot falls asleep and it gets all tingly. Like that." I nodded and looked up at him.
"So I won't turn into a were wolf or anything, right?" He chuckled again and shook his head.
"No, you're still gonna be my little human mate." He kissed the top of my head and led me to a large wooden door at the end of the hallway. Tobias knocked lightly on the door until we heard his father's voice telling us to enter. Tobias opened the door and let me step in first. I sat in one of the two chairs in front of the large wooden desk.
"Hello, Gill. It's nice to see you not in a hospital bed." Paul Greene was a well built man. He was about an inch shorter than his eldest son, and had a similar look to him. He was quite attractive, for a dad I mean. Tobias would always have everyone beat.
"It's nice to see you too, sir." Tobias sat in the chair beside me and quickly laced our fingers together, as if on instinct. I couldn't help but smile and gently squeeze his hand.
"So, what can I do for you?"
"Well," Tobias began, "I wanted to talk about the alpha position. You said if I found my mate before Drew was old enough to take over, I would keep the position. But we both know every alpha needs an heir... And we're both dudes, so..." Paul sighed and clasped his hands together.
"I've thought of that as well. Tobias, you must know, there is no one else I would like to sit in this chair after me than you. You would make an excellent alpha. However, you are right. An alpha needs an heir." I hesitantly looked over at Tobias to study his face. He had a number of emotions on his face: anger, sadness, and maybe even a little bit of understanding.
"So I still have to give up the position..." Tobias looked down at his lap.
"I'm afraid so. I'm very sorry, son." A thought suddenly popped into my head.
"Wait, didn't you say something about visiting the council?" Tobias snapped his head back up at the sound of my voice. Both men stared at me with wide eyes and I felt my body sink down into the chair nervously. "I mean, Tobias said they are like the rule makers and they know everything about your kind. So maybe they know a way to pass on the title without an heir?" Paul thought it over for a moment.
"I don't think there is a way, but if there was, the council would be the place to go. I'll set up a visit." Tobias squeezed my hand and gave me a bright smile. "Now is there anything else you wish to discuss?" Tobias shook his head and stood, pulling me up with him.
"Thank you so much, alpha." Paul nodded and stood as well.
"It's no problem. I will let you two know when something is set up." Tobias said goodbye to his father and pulled me from the office. The second the door clicked shut behind us, he pulled me tightly against him, burying his face into my neck.
"You're so amazing." I blushed and hugged him back.
"All I did was repeat what you told me about the council. It was your idea to visit them in the first place, remember?" Tobias just shushed me and began peppering soft kisses up my neck, making me giggle, and causing goosebumps to spread across my skin. He continued up my neck and across my jaw, leaving those familiar sparks, before finally, letting his lips press against mine.
"You're amazing." He repeated, much softer. "And I will never get over kissing you." He smiled and gave me one last peck on my lips before releasing his tight hold on me. I felt my face grow warmer as I gazed up at him.
"I love kissing you too." I whispered softly. Tobias just grinned wider and laced our hands together again.
"Ready for that tour?" I nodded, eager to see the rest of the giant house.
