Chapter 13 Menu When Alice heard the words âfamily,â she couldnât help but feel it was absurd. She thought the same way in her past life. But just before she was about to claim the championship, she got replaced by Chloe. What kind of family was that?
Alice decisively replied, âIâm not planning to join the team; I want to focus on my studies and prepare for exams.â
Luke shot back sarcastically, âOh, but you were begging me to teach you how to play games, chasing me at night for training, and saying you wanted to be a full member. Why didnât you mention studying then?â
A familiar ache tugged at Aliceâs heart. The reason she chased after her sixth brother to play games was to build a better relationship and have more common topics to discuss! But now, that seemed unnecessary.
Alice replied, âItâs just that playing games has been affecting my studies; my scores dropped a lot in the last monthly exam, so I donât want to continue gaming.â
Luke was speechless.âFine. Donât regret it. When the competition starts, outsiders will only see Chloe and think sheâs the real member of the Welch family.â
If Alice was so ungrateful, then so be it; he didnât care.
âThatâs fine,â Alice didnât want to waste more words and turned to leave the dining hall.
Back in her room, she adjusted her emotions and started focusing on her homework, refreshing her memory on the knowledge she had forgotten.
The next day after school, Alice and Chloe arrived at the school gates. The driver waited outside.
Chloe stood in front of the car and said, âIâm heading to the training camp. The driver needs to take me there first; we wonât be going the same way.â
The driver, with a stern face, stated, âMiss, I received a call from Mr. Welch. I need to take Miss Black there first. I canât waste time.â
Alice didnât care.âIâll take a taxi.â
Chloe got into the car, a hint of excitement in her eyes.âAlice, Iâll talk to Luke later.â
Alice turned and walked away.
Chloe watched her go, biting her lip.
âAlice, just wait. One day Iâll take everything from you! This is what you owe me!â Alice stood by the roadside, feeling a bit disinterested in returning to the Welch family. Maybe she should look for a study room nearby.
âHey kid, why are you just hanging around after school instead of going home?â
Alice turned and saw a handsome man, momentarily stunned until she recognized him. It was the sharpâtongued school doctor.
He usually wore a mask and a white coat, but now he was dressed differently, almost unrecognizable.
Jack stood in front of her. âIâm talking to you.â
âI donât want to go home right now. I want to find a study room to do my homework.â
âCome with me.â

Alice hesitated for a moment but decided to follow him.
Menu She ended up at the schoolâs infirmary, standing at the door:âWhy are we here? Iâm already better.â
Jack gestured to the desk.âItâs quieter and safer than a study hall.â
After thinking it over, Alice realized he had a point. She set her backpack down:âThanks.â She took out her books and began studying. Jack glanced at her, his gaze cold, then turned and went to the consultation room, shutting the door behind him. When Alice came back to her senses, she noticed it was getting late.
She saw a nameplate with the doctorâs photo; so âHave you seen enough?â
his name was Jack Wilson.
Alice was caught off guard, her face turning red as she quickly put the nameplate back âI wasnât snooping. I just saw it by accident.â
âHave finished you your homework?â
teacher tomorrow.â
âYes, but for some of the harder questions, Iâll ask the teacher Jack took her notebook.âYou couldnât solve those simple problems?â Alice felt a bit discouraged, looking down at her textbook:âI wasnât focused. I other things.â
