Chapter 8 - Miss Stanford

____________________________________

"Mr Hawthorne is much too busy to see you, Miss Stanford." I apologised to the gorgeous dark-haired model standing before me.

"He called me here!" She said using her high pitched voice.

"He did?" I asked confused.

Brandon usually tells me if he had invited someone over to the office which is why I was seriously doubting this woman.

"Yes. Go ask him, Miss Hayes." She responded glancing at my name tag.

"Alright please have seat?" I said and gestured to the peach coloured sofa in the waiting room to wait for Brandon to come and see her.

I slammed the door open to Brandon's office not bothering to knock at all.

"You should know to kno- Ashley?" He said.

"Miss Stanford is looking for you. She is in the first lounge." I said and walked away. I sat in my office and peeped out the window.

In my mind, I saw him run to her and they hugged as if their lives depended on it. That thought alone unleased darkness on my mood. I was relatively relieved to see that in reality, they had only shaken hands but still... why was she here? Why hadn't Brandon told me about her arrival?

I wanted to barge into his office and demand information from him, however, I couldn't do that. I was merely an employee. Whatever he does in there... with her... it's none of my business. It was killing me on the inside. I was itching to go in there and demand answers but I couldn't do that. I had no right. It wasn't Brandon's fault that my feelings were getting the way.

The day dragged slowly on. I buried myself in work and buried myself in arranging files in alphabetical order well that is until Lissa burst into my office with a brown paper bag.

"Where were you at Lunch, Missy?" She said putting her hands on her hips and glaring at me.

"Sorry. I had a lot of work to deal with." I said and she sighed.

"Lucky for you, you have an awesome, glamourous and thoughtful friend like me. I bought you some food!" She said and handed me the brown paper bag.

I slowly began unwrapping the brown paper and almost immediately the delicious smell of food wafted into my nostrils and I felt myself salivating. My stomach grumbled and only then did I realise how hungry I was.

"Smells good!" I commented but Lissa just smirked.

"Taste it!" She said excitedly.

"Did it fall on the floor?" I asked and her face fell.

"No." She said.

"Goodie," I said and ate the contents. Lissa had brought me a bunch of crispy chicken strips with some fried slap chips. She had topped that with lots of tomato sauce, chilli salt and some vinegar.

"That was heavenly!" I cried out.

"I knew you would like it!" Lissa said and flicked her dark hair, her blue eyes glittering.

"You did?" I raised my eyebrow slightly and she laughed.

"Yes, I made it!" She said and I smiled.

"Oh. Well you are a good chef." I told her as I nodded my head in approval.

"Oh?" She mocked, "Oh?" Her eyes bulged out and I just laughed at her silly face.

"Brandon tell me a joke?" I pleaded with him.

"Why? don't you enjoy stargazing?"

"I do," I smiled.

Brandon had invited me out to go stargazing with him. We had driven out to a quiet location with clear skies. Brandon had brought a large picnic carpet with a basket filled with treats and set them out.

"Well I guess here goes nothing," Brandon said scratching his neck as we both rested our bodies on the blanket and looked up at the beautiful inky blue sky coated with sparkling stars.

"There were three boys, one was Shut up, another was Manners and the third one was Trouble. They decided to play hide and seek. Trouble was on. Manners hid up in a tree and Shut up hid behind a bin. Shut up made tons of noise so a policeman said to him: 'What's your name boy?' Shut up responded: 'Shut up sir,' the police then said: 'Where are your manners?' Shut up then responded: 'up the tree,' the police aggravated then said: 'Are you looking for trouble?' Shut up responded: 'No, trouble is looking for me.'"  Brandon finished off and glanced at me his cheeks red. Cute.

I laughed.

"Brandon, well done!" I smiled and he rolled his eyes.

"Ashley, I think I might like you to be honest." He admitted and smiled at me.

"I thi-" I began but he cut me off.

"The day I saw you, I knew you were the one Ash and honestly I couldn't wish for someone better than you. Ashley Hayes will you do me the honour of becoming my girlfriend?" He questioned and I paused.

My breath caught in my throat and I stared into his eyes. I saw them glimmer with hope and I finally nodded.

"Yes!" I said and he smiled pulling me for the deepest most passionate kiss ever.

"So that was what happened Melanie," I said and I finished reciting the story that had happened last night.

"You were on a picnic under the stars? That is the most romantic thing ever!" She said, well actually, cooed.

"Yes," I said as I felt my cheeks grow hot and she smiled.

"I'm so happy for you!" She squealed.

"Thanks," I said and she hugged me really tight nearly suffocating me.

"Did you ask him about the Stanford thing?" Melanie asked me.

I shook my head, "No. Didn't want to ruin the moment."

"Well if it does end up bothering you too much just talk to him. Communicate!"

"I will," I told her nodding my head.

"Don't forget it's your turn to cook!" Mel said and dashed to her room. I sighed and headed to the kitchen and flipped through the recipe book. I decided to make some cheese and macaroni and that was one of my favourite dishes besides lasagne. I got the ingredients out and decided I was actually way too lazy to make it, I packed them away again and then I ordered two pizzas.

I sat on the couch and turned the tv on and Melanie sauntered out of her room in her pink Minnie mouse pyjamas.

"Where's the food?" She asked and I shrugged.

"Coming," I said.

"What do you mean 'coming', Ashley?" She asked.

"Ordered pizza," I said.

"Yay!" She said excitedly.

I laughed a little and focused on watching Vampire Diaries, Season Six. Isn't Damon so drool-worthy? I think he is if you don't.

The doorbell rang a couple of minutes later and I headed to it and flung it open. The man handed the two red boxes to me.

"Twenty dollars ma'am," he said.

I handed him the money and slammed the door in his face. I was walking away with the pizza when the doorbell rang again.

I opened it.

"Hello?" I asked the delivery guy.

"I'm Andrè and I was wondering if you could give me your number please?"

"No, you may not, and you will remove yourself from these premises or I will have security remove you forcibly if not willingly,"

"Brandon?" I gasped and he tipped his cap.

"Hello Ash," he said with a wink.

"You scared the poor Andrè!" I said and he rolled his eyes.

"Who cares?"

"Me? He was just asking for my number no need to go all caveman on him." I crossed my arms.

"And why the hell are you defending him?"

"I'm not, just stating facts. Besides you can't have someone 'removed' forcibly of the premises when he was doing no wrong." I said raising an eyebrow.

"Ashley, Ashley, you forget just who I am," Brandon said tutting.

"No I don't,  you are the idiotic Brandon Hawthorne." I said.

"Who owns this building and buildings around the entire area?" He asked as he ran a hand through his dark hair.

"I don't know, the owner?" I said.

"Such a smartass. I own the building Ash." He said.

"You? You own this building?"

He laughed, "Yes Ashley. All those ones around by like a hundred-kilometre radius,"

"Oh," I said.

"Oh," Brandon echoed.
