Chapter 29 - The Fall Of A Drama Queen

The past six months felt like bliss. I was faithfully going to my job at the boutique, avoiding Lina, and then going back home to my apartment that I was still paying off to Hagatha. Life felt like a routine, wake up at 5 and then head out for a thirty-minute jog before rushing back, showering, and then going to the boutique.
Nothing really exciting happened at the boutique. Often, the elder women would walk in and flaunt their money, buy some overpriced clothing items, and then leave. Some were kind, and others were snobby and loved looking down on both Lina and me. Sometimes, I had to fight a lot to keep a smile on my face when dealing with the latter kind of people, they were a pain.
During this time Lina apologized but I wasn't willing to forgive her just yet. I felt awfully betrayed by what she had done. People may view a small bet as harmless but I hated that she was in cahoots with Darren especially after he started stalking me at my apartment and leaving roses. When I ignored the roses he started leaving creepy cryptic notes which terrified me. I had told Brandon (seeing as he and I were now on way better terms) who summoned his personal investigator to find out what the notes meant and we had a meeting today in fact.

"I don't know. The only thing I really remember is that he threw a knife and it nearly hit me. He claimed he was practicing his knife skills. He works for the FBI and has quite a high position." I told Paulo.
"I think this might have been the murder attempt," Paulo said glancing at me and then at Brandon.
"There wasn't a repeat. I believed it was an accident." I said.
"I also discovered that he and Sophia are married."
"What?" Brandon and I yelled simultaneously.
"Sophia and Darren got married in Las Vegas five years ago. They kept it under wraps, they have never been seen together and there are no legal documents that shows they annulled their impromptu wedding." Paulo said reading from his notes.
"Are you certain about this, Paulo?" Brandon asked his teeth gritted.
Paulo nodded, "If you'd like to see the evidence here it is. I also discovered that Sophia Lancross married him purposefully in return for his help."
"What could Sophia need from him?" Brandon spat.
"Evidence shows that she murdered Alexandra Adonis as she was going for the same man that Sophia claimed to love. I've managed to get copies of the tapes that were burnt in the house. Alexandra Adonis had her camera streaming live to another secure off-site location."
"What could he possibly do to help her?" I asked him.
"You said it yourself, Darren works for the FBI. The FBI were forced to investigate the whole thing by Alexandra's brother Nicholas Adonis and Darren was head of the investigation. He played with the evidence and blamed it on the innocent neighbour."
"If Nicholas finds out about this he will take her to jail!" Brandon yelled.
"Wait you mean Alexandra Adonis the famous actress?"
"Yes Miss Hayes," Paulo nodded, "She is also the sister of Nicholas Adonis one of the worlds top billionaires," Paulo said.
"We met Nicholas at the ball," I said, thinking out loud.
"Indeed." Brandon said, "Paulo do we have enough evidence to put Sophia and Darren her accomplice behind bars?"
"Yes sir. I also found out that Sophia has been evading paying her tax. We can arrest her for tax evasion along with murder."
"How? She is a well-known woman." Brandon said.
"She doesn't authorize her accountant to pay the tax I assume or she bribed a government official, who the hell knows! I also broke into her apartment and grabbed this USB," Paulo said holding a red and blue flash drive to our faces.
"What's on it?" I asked him.
"Images. Images of you, Brandon and Alessio along with Nicholas Adonis. Some of Miss Hayes as well." Paulo said.
"Oh?" Brandon growled.
"Yes sir," Paulo, "It's clear that she was creating a hit list. She also had Darren as her puppy covering up her trails. I believe that Darren and Miss Hayes dating was a planned coincidence. I think she may have slight schizophrenia."
"We can see that," Brandon hissed.
"We should call Nicholas in here. We need to get this case to court immediately." I said.
"I agree," Brandon said.
"Tell Stephanie to call Nicholas," I told Brandon.
Brandon called his personal assistant on the intercom. She relayed the message to Nicholas who surprisingly came quite quickly. When he saw images of his sister, he was furious.
"I want her behind bars now!" He roared.
"We're working on it," Brandon said.
"That witch!" Nicholas yelled, "She dared to show her face at my sister's funeral and say a eulogy. What a gross human being!"
"Was she close to your sister?" Paulo asked.
Nicholas nodded, "Indeed! They were the best of friends. I warned Lexa against her but she wouldn't listen to me."
"Sophia had her brainwashed," Brandon said.
"Or maybe Sophia was too much of a good actor," I said.
Nicholas growled.
"Are you okay man?" Brandon asked.
Nicholas shook his head, "Of course not! I spent years trying to get over this and move on and leave the pain in the past but now it's all been relived."
"I'm sorry Nick." Brandon apologised.
"It's quite alright Brandon. As long as the woman is behind bars I will be satisfied." Nicholas said gravely.
"What if someone bails her out?" I asked.
"I'll make sure that the police won't allow a bail for that piece of trash!" Nicholas yelled causing me to flinch.
"Calm down. Paulo here is making all the evidence he has collected into a file which I will hand over to my team of Lawyers. They're the very best that America has to offer. All of them have the highest qualification one can get in the degree of law." Brandon said.
"I want my lawyers on this too! Alexandra was my sister and I will fight for her as hard as I need to. I need to avenge my younger sister!" Nick said.
Brandon nodded, "We can merge our team of lawyers as well if you'd like."
"Good. I'll phone them." Nick said agreeing to Brandon's suggestion.
"Crisis averted!" Brandon mouthed to me as I gave him a tight-lipped smile.
He left the room as he urgently tapped against the screen on his phone. I sighed and looked at Brandon who raised his eyebrows.
"I can't believe this! I was in love and about to marry, one; a married man and two; a murderer." I said.
"Don't worry about it. I'm glad I found you before you married him." Brandon said and I sighed.
"Same," I said.
After a few moments I decided to voice one of the questions that have been bothering me.
"Paulo?" I asked.
"Yes?" He grunted looking up from the file he was sorting and sifting through.
"Did you find out what the one thousand-dollar thing between him and Lina was?" I asked curiously.
Paulo nodded, "I did. Mr. Hawthorne asked me to specifically look into that. It was nothing, Lina didn't know about it. Darren said that in order to make you mad, Miss Hayes."
"I see. Is Lina involved with any of this Sophia stuff?" I asked him.
"No. Lina simply works in a boutique and lives with her fat ginger cat. Her mother and father both live together happily in London after a messy divorce and a happy reunion. Lina does not have any siblings but she is close with her first cousin from her father's side of the family, her name is Sienna Nazzer." Paulo said in a non chalant manner as if what he stated wasn't creepy at all, "Shall I continue?"
I nodded, "No it's alright. Thank you," I said.
Paulo looked up clearly shocked by my 'thank you' and met my eye, "You're welcome Miss Hayes."

I'm shook. I didn't think Sophia would turn out to be a murderer when I first made her character up, but oh well.
