Before Silvia could get a word in, Neil coldly interjected, âPlease donât interfere in our business.â
Melanie was furious. âNeil, how long do you intend to shield her?!â
He said nothing, but the icy aura he radiated made his dissatisfaction abundantly clear.
âDonât worry, Mrs. Remus. Mr. Remus and I already have an agreement. Once his legs heal, weâll get a divorce.â
âSilvia Pond!â
Neil glared at her furiously.
âWeâre getting a divorce sooner or later. I donât want you to have conflicts with your family because of this, Mr. Remus,â she calmly said.
âHow thoughtful of you!â
Sensing his sarcasm, she decided not to speak further.
Melanie sneered. âMake sure you do as you say and stop clinging to Neil!â
Silvia laughed. âIs Mr. Remus a valuable item? Why would I cling to him?â
Melanie spluttered as her expression darkened.
âN-No wonder the Pond Family dislikes you. Who in their right mind would like such a rude person?â
Silvia frowned in displeasure.
Neil frowned too and coldly said, âMom, if you have so much free time on your hands, why donât you go back and rest?â
Melanie was in disbelief. âNeil, Iâm your mother. How could you side with an outsider instead of me?â
âIf you hadnât caused trouble, we wouldnât have come to this.â
âAre you saying that I was wrong to advise you on the divorce?â
âNow that youâve realized it, letâs not bring it up again.â
His indifference only fueled her anger. She stood up and said, âFine, I wonât meddle in your affairs anymore!â
âThat would be best.â
Melanie left in anger, and silence returned to the ward. Silvia sat by the bed and quietly observed Abaleneâs IV drip without revealing any emotions.
After more than half an hour, Abalene finally woke up.
Silvia hurried to support her as she tried to get up.
âMadam Remus, please take it easy.â
Seeing that Abalene was awake, Jake hurried over. âMom, are you feeling alright?â
Abaleneâs complexion was still somewhat pale. She shook her head and softly requested, âIâd like some time alone. Could everyone please leave?â
âIf you need anything or start to feel unwell, just call for us. Weâll be right outside the door.â
Before she left, Silvia tucked in the corners of Abaleneâs blanket. Just as she turned away, she noticed a tear fall from Abaleneâs eye.
That woman would always be smiling. It was Silviaâs first time seeing her with such a sorrowful expression.
After they left the ward, Liam joined them.
âNow that your grandmotherâs awake, Iâll get the servants to come over. You should all head back and rest. Thereâs no need for so many of us to stay here,â Jake said softly.
Liam nodded. âAlright. Just let me know if you need anything.â
After they exited the hospital and parted ways with Liam, Neil solemnly said, âThis incident was definitely planned, just like my car accident.â
Silvia subconsciously tightened her grip on the wheelchair and whispered, âPerhaps it was just an accident...â
He sneered, and his voice remained cold. âMy grandmother actually had four children. A nanny kidnapped the youngest child when it was just a baby.
By the time they found it, the baby was dead.
âItâs a deeply sensitive topic in our family, and no one talks about it. Very few people knew about what happened, but if we check every single thing, weâll find out who was behind this!â
Silvia never expected there to be such a past event. No wonder Abalene looked so sad earlier. The package likely reminded her of it.
