Ten minutes later, Curtis reported back to Neil.
âMr. Remus, Miss Pond is on an airplane bound for Greenvale.â
Neil frowned and asked, âWhy is she going to Greenvale?â
âIâm afraid I donât know.â
âGot it. You may leave.â
...
Right after Silvia got off the airplane, she received a call from Isla.
âSil, have you forgotten about joining me for dinner with David Cooper?â
Isla had to attend an event last night. Since the event ended late, she stayed in a hotel.
When she returned to the mansion, she saw a note from Silvia and learned that she had gone on a business trip.
Silvia was taken aback, but she soon remembered that she and Isla had indeed spoken about this.
âSorry, Isla. Iâve been so busy over the past few days that I forgot about it. Iâm already in Greenvale. Once I get back, Iâll treat you to a meal as an apology, alright?â
âItâs fine. I was going to ask David Cooper out for dinner tonight, but since youâre not around, Iâll wait for you to return. Stay safe out there and call me if anything pops up.â
âSure.â
Once the call ended, Silvia brought Joe and Eva out of the airport.
Outside the airport, they saw a middle-aged man holding a plate with Silviaâs name on it.
He was wearing a gray acid-wash jacket and a pair of army-green canvas shoes. While they looked worn-out, they were clean.
When Silvia saw her name, she approached him.
âHello. Are you Mr. Conrad Clark?â
Conrad nodded and lowered the plate. âYou must be Miss Silvia Pond.â
âYes. Itâs a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Clark.â
âThe pleasureâs mine. Our car is at the entrance. Letâs head over there.â
While he spoke, he attempted to carry Silviaâs luggage. âIâll take this.â
âItâs fine. I can do it myself.â
Their ride was an old-school van. It looked really worn-down, like it was about to fall apart at any moment.
Joe and Eva exchanged looks and saw the surprise in each otherâs eyes.
Werenât they there to check a textile factory? Why was its owner so poor?
Silviaâs expression remained the same. Once she put her luggage into the van with the others, she got in and started talking to Conrad.
On their way, Silvia gained a general understanding of Ten Miles Village.
The van came to a stop in front of the village entrance. Conrad looked at Silvia quite bashfully and said, âIâm sorry, Miss Pond. We donât have proper roads for cars to drive around in the village. We have to walk in.â
Silvia nodded. âThatâs alright.â
She grabbed her luggage and looked at Eva. âCan you walk?â
Eva was wearing a pair of heels, so it might not be convenient for her to walk around in the village.
âYes. I brought flats.â
She took out a pair of flats from her luggage and changed her footwear. Then, she dragged her luggage along as she walked behind Silvia.
Conrad wanted to help Silvia with her luggage, but she refused his offer. âMr. Clark, you can help Eva instead. I can pull my own luggage.â
Seeing that she was totally at ease and not just being polite with him, Conrad nodded and said, âAlright.â
Then, he went up to Eva. âMiss White, let me help you with your luggage.â
