Neil was dressed in casual clothes, which made him look incredibly different. Usually, he would dress in a suit and tie. Nevertheless, he still gave off a cold and standoffish air.
Silvia shared a look with him before she calmly looked away.
Mrs. Zimmer, the housekeeper of Harmony Yard, saw her and smiled pleasantly. âWelcome, Mrs. Remus. The madam has been waiting for you.â
Mrs. Zimmer had been taking care of Neilâs grandmother, Abalene, for years. On paper, they were employer and employee, but they were as close as sisters.
Silvia smiled and handed her some cakes she had brought.
âI bought your favorite fruit cake from that cake shop you love, Mrs. Zimmer. I also bought the butter cake that Madam Remus loves.â
Mrs. Zimmer took the cakes happily and said, âThank you, Mrs. Remus. Iâll serve it to Madam Remus right away. Sheâs been wanting to try it again.â
âAlright. Iâll see her now.â
When she entered the living room, Abalene was asking the servants to serve her favorite snacks.
âSilvia loves fruit candy, so place it right in front. Do the same for the biscuits.â
Silvia chuckled. Abalene still treated her like a child.
âMadam Remus, I canât possibly finish so many snacks on my own.â
Abalene turned around in delight. âSilvia, youâre back! If you canât finish them, Iâll ask the servants to pack them up so that you can enjoy them at home.â
Silvia held Abaleneâs hand while she said, âWhy donât you take a break for now? Letâs sit down and talk.â
âAlright.â
Right after they sat down, Abalene gave her a good look and noticed that she had become thinner. She felt a pang in her heart.
âYouâve lost weight. Neil mentioned that you got a job. If itâs tiring you out, just resign. Neil can take care of you. Worse comes to worst, Iâll give you my savings.â
Silvia shook her head. âI donât feel tired at all. Itâs not like I have anything to do at home, anyway.â
Abalene did not persuade Silvia to resign when she saw how determined Silvia was to continue working. âAlright. But you have to resign once you feel exhausted. Donât work too hard.â
âI know, I know.â
As they spoke, Neil walked into the living room and sat down across from them.
Even though he did not interrupt their conversation, they could not ignore him.
Abalene also noticed that Silviaâs smile was not as bright after Neil entered the living room.
Her years of experience told her that these two had gotten into an argument.
âNeil, I told the servants to make some juice in the kitchen. I wonder why they havenât brought it out yet. Be a dear and have them serve it to us, will you?â
Once Neil left, Abalene asked Silvia, âWhat happened between you two? Did he mistreat you?â
Although she was surprised at how observant Abalene was, Silvia just smiled. âHe didnât. Donât worry.â
âTell me if he does. I wonât let him off the hook.â
âI know. Youâve always treated me so kindly.â
Soon, Neil came back with the juice. After he placed it on the table, he said to Abalene, âIâm going to the study to work on some documents.â
Abalene glared at him and huffed. âWhatâs the point of you telling me that? Tell your wife!â
He had no sense at all. No wonder he got into an argument with Silvia.
When she felt Neilâs gaze on her, Silvia looked down and said, âMr. Remus, Madam Remus is just joking around. Do whatever it is you need to do.
Donât mind me.â
Her aloof behavior got on his nerves, but he said nothing. Instead, he turned around and left.
The moment Neil disappeared, Abalene looked at her. âSilvia, when are you going to have children?â
