Camie didn't eat her cookie immediately. She put it in her bag and decided to have it for later. However, having put it in her bag, she forgot about it for long hours and only remembered it at the end of the day. This was a very good surprise for her and she took out the cookie to eat it on her way home.
Having taken a bite out of the cookie, Camie suddenly remembered what had happened when Théa gave it to her. For some reason Lula claimed that she had lied and that the cookies were from a bakery. But Camie knew that Théa wasn't the type to lie. She was the typical hero from the movies: always doing what's right. She wouldn't lie. Especially not about something like this. Camie trusted Théa way more than Lula.
But then why would Lula lie? Maybe she didn't. Lula didn't really do anything wrong until that one time when she didn't support Théa in a time of need. Maybe she really thought that they were from the bakery and both of them had told the truth.
Having decided on that, Camie became curious about the bakery and she thought that she could stop by to buy something sweet to eat. Walking in the wrong direction, she suddenly turned around and almost crashed into the person walking behind her:
"Sorry!"
What Camie didn't expect was that the person behind her would be Ember. She hadn't seen her since she snapped at her and Camie had no idea how to act around her anymore. Having no idea what to say, she just decided to continue walking as if nothing. But just when she wanted to walk away, Ember called her name:
"Camie?"
Our hero turned around in anticipation? What was Ember going to say? Was she going to talk about those journalists again? Or did she find something else to threaten Camie?
"Have a good day."
Camie was so surprised she thought she would trip:
"What?
-I just wanted to wish you a nice day.
-I... Thanks?"
Ember nodded shyly before walking away. Camie on the other hand couldn't move and just stared at her as she walked away. What had just happened? Was she dreaming? No. She pinched herself and she was still awake. Was that someone who looked a lot like Ember? No. She knew Camie's name. Then was she a clone? Maybe she had powers that Camie didn't know about. Or maybe she was Ember's secret twin sister.
Stories, one crazier than the other, started filling Camie's head. She didn't have time to decide which one was the answer however because someone else called her name:
"Camie!"
When Camie turned around she found herself face to face with Lula. The latter ran up to her with a huge smile:
"I am so happy I ran into you! How have you been since a few hours ago?"
Lula laughed at her joke and Camie did her best to smile.
"I'm just kidding. Where are you headed?
-To the bakery.
-Oh, sweet! What are you going to buy?
-Cookies.
-That's such a great idea! Speaking of cookies..."
Lula started looking through her pockets before waving a cookie in front of Camie's face:
"Look what Théa gave me!
-That's very nice.
-It is, isn't it? I was a bit hurt when she didn't give me that cookie and preferred to give it to you but then she gave me this one. Isn't it way prettier?"
Camie didn't really see the difference but she didn't want to offend Lula. But if she was really honest, it was mostly because it was always easier to agree:
"Is is.
-Right? I almost don't want to eat it, it's so perfect.
-Then it would go to waste.
-I know... It's so hard to choose. Maybe we could go to the bakery together."
Camie really didn't want to:
"Oh, sorry but my stomach started hurting. I don't think I want to buy a cookie anymore.
-Oh, yeah I understand no problem. Maybe we could go another time.
-Sure."
Camie didn't mean it at all but the very next day, Lula came up to her again:
"Hi, Camie! How's your stomach?
-Fine, thank you.
-What about getting some cookies today?
-Sorry, I have classes soon.
-Oh, where are your classes?
-In building 536.
-Oh, I can walk you! It's on my way.
-You don't have to.
-I want to.
-I see."
They started walking together and Camie was already counting how many steps left she had to take before reaching her building.
"Théa gave me another cookie today."
Camie didn't remember asking but maybe Lula was just trying to make conversation:
"That's very nice.
-Yeah, she really is the best bestfriend. I can't believe that we have been friends for 9 years.
-That's a very long time.
-It feels just like yesterday when I first met her. She was always so clumsy and generous and she wanted to give her cake to her classmate but ended up falling and getting cake all over her. How clumsy do you have to be?"
Lula started laughing but Camie just felt bad for Théa. She must have felt humiliated.
"She looked so stupid that I immediately knew we would be best friends. Actually I was Théa's first friend. No one wanted to be friends with her because she was way too clumsy.
-That's not nice.
-I know. Fortunately I was there for her. I wouldn't be surprised if she started having a crush on me after all that."
Camie didn't understand what Lula was talking about:
"Why would she get a crush on you? I thought you said she wasn't gay.
-Exactly. So she would never have a crush on a girl. But I'm just saying, if she would, it would be me. But you are right, she would never like a girl. Sometimes it could feel like she has a crush on someone but actually she is just very nice to everyone. People might feel special because of that but she can't help it. She just likes everyone the same.
-That's very generous.
-She is! I hope that she didn't hurt you by being so generous to you.
-Why would that hurt me?
-I don't know. Why would it?
-What?"
Lula pinched her lips before saying:
"I would understand why you would feel betrayed if after being so generous to you she suddenly started doing the same to others.
-Why would that bother me? Théa is a very generous person, I know that.
-Exactly. So you shouldn't feel special.
-What?
-I am just telling you this as a friend. Don't think that you are special to Théa."
Camie had never thought about that. How could she be special to the almighty Black Gold?
"I didn't.
-Good for you."
Lula went suddenly silent but the next second she stopped walking and turned to Camie:
"What is wrong with you?
-What?
-I just told you that you weren't special to Théa. Why aren't you hurt?
-Why would I be?
-You mean nothing to Théa.
-Okay..."
