Chapter 40: Chapter 40

Camie didn't hear someone coming up to her because of the music and seeing green eyes made her immediately scream:

"Ah!"

She jumped back and hit the wall. At least that was what she thought would happen. She would have hit her head if the person didn't quickly put their hand between the wall and Camie's skull. The shock was important enough for Camie's headphones to fall out and she could hear Théa's voice:

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you.

-Théa? What are you doing here?"

Seeing Théa so close to her face made Camie freeze. Théa immediately noticed and she pulled her hand away. Camie could get away from the wall and she touched her cheeks, trying to cool them down. She suddenly remembered the poster that was behind her and she suddenly got shy again. She remembered the reason why she made that poster in the first place and she didn't want Théa to see it. She did want Théa to see that there were people who cared about her and who put signs all over town for her but she didn't want Théa knowing that it was her. It would take away all the purpose.

In an attempt to divert her attention, Camie suddenly grabbed Théa's wrists and made her turn:

"Did you know that Black Holes end time?"

Théa blinked a few times before laughing:

"Do they?"

Camie didn't even realize what she was rambling about at that point. All she wanted was to keep Théa's attention away from the poster:

"If someone were to fall into a Black Hole, time would suddenly stop when they reached the horizon. Then all Time would pass in front of them and all the light in the Universe would converge towards them at the same time. That light would be infinitely pulled towards blue therefore they would be grilled. Black Holes have a huge gravitational force and they are necessary to stabilize galaxies."

Théa listened to Camie patiently, not saying a word.

"If someone were to watch that happening it would be the other way around. Light can't escape Black Holes so light would infinitely tend towards red frequencies and the person falling in would become invisible. Their time would slow down and it would look as if they were falling forever. It's crazy isn't it? Both forever and all time in a second. Black Holes emerge from the death of huge stars but they can also give birth to stars. So they are both the beginning and the end. I love their duality. Maybe just like Black Holes, Black Gold could bend gravity to her desire and then later on bend time to her will."

Having talked very fast, Camie finally breathed. She didn't notice how long she had spent without doing so and she needed a few seconds to calm down.

"That was all very interesting. Violet was right. You really are a genius."

Hearing that felt so good that Camie looked away:

"It's just the first class Violet gave me... I am still far from understanding how it happens."

Théa bent so close to Camie that the latter pinched her lips.

"Do you know anything more about Black Holes?

-I..."

Camie looked away:

"Not really... I really am at the beginning. Sorry, it's very basic information.

-I didn't know. Thank you so much for telling me. It was very interesting. If you have anything else that comes to your mind, don't hold back.

-Okay."

Théa moved and scared that she would turn around and see the poster, Camie screamed again:

"Black smoke is the first step! Black Holes have a huge gravity because of how dense their core is. Maybe Black Gold could focus her powers into a very dense ball to play with gravity. She could use those balls to attract people to her and catch villains. No one would be able to escape from her. That would also be the case for everything else around them but with practice I am sure that she would be able to focus her powers into specific directions. Not that it's very possible looking at physics but Black Gold still managed to touch things with her black smoke.

-I see. That's a very interesting idea."

Camie looked at the poster before adding:

"We could talk more about it around an ice cream. I am craving one.

"With pleasure."

Théa followed Camie further away from the poster and Camie could finally calm down. Once at the ice cream place, Camie checked her phone to see if their posters made some noise. She was disappointed when she saw that it wasn't the case.

When she looked up, Théa was staring at her patiently. Camie knew that she had to wait longer for Théa to hear about the posters but what if it never made the news? What if Théa never saw the posters? Camie didn't want her being sad about the protests and she preferred talking about the posters:

"Speaking of physics, did you go to the physics department lately?"

Théa shook her head:

"No. Would you like to go there?

-I... I was there today and I saw something very interesting."

Théa waited patiently for Camie to say more.

"Did you know that astrophysicists loved Black Gold?

-I didn't.

-Well, they do! Violet told me. And you can even check yourself. They have posters up in their building for Black Gold.

-Really? That is the nicest thing I heard."

Camie couldn't help blushing. She opened her coat and pretended that she was too warm:

"I have pictures!"

She took her phone out and showed Théa some of the posters they made.

"May I?"

Théa took Camie's phone and she started staring at the posters for long minutes. She stared for so long that Camie wondered if she had fallen asleep with her eyes open.

"These look amazing. Whoever did these really is talented."

Camie suddenly straightened up:

"Do you like them?

-Of course. I would love to have them."

Théa continued staring at Camie's screen:

"Wasn't this picture taken in the Biology department? I should go there as soon as possible.

-Wait, you can't take them home yet."

Théa looked so disappointed that Camie quickly explained:

"I think these posters were made for people to see them. You can take some but not all of them.

-I don't want all of them. But a few of them look especially nice.

-Which ones?"

Camie got curious and she bent closer to Théa. The latter showed Camie her favorite posters and they were all the ones Camie made:

"Really? What do you like about them?

-They just look perfect."

Hearing that from Théa made Camie feel even better.

"I want to have them in my room.

-I am so glad you like them. But don't take the others. Maybe they could stop them from saying stupid things."

Camie froze, having realized what she just said. Seeing Camie pinch her lips made Théa smile:

"Are you referring to the protests?

-Did you see that?"

Camie felt terribly ashamed. She knew how bad this would hurt Théa. It would hurt anyone. And she couldn't stop thinking that it was all happening because of her.

"They don't deserve Black Gold. They are just stupid. We should ignore them.

-Okay."

Camie froze:

"What?

-You are right. I wouldn't mind it."

Was she pretending? Camie had no idea what was going on.

"They always complained and now they are protesting just because Black Gold took two days off. That's way over exaggerated. The more you give them the more they will expect.

-You are right.

-I..."

Camie was so confused that she had no idea what to say anymore. Did Théa really not mind?
