Doctor Marianne came back inside the hospital room with a soft smile:
"How are you feeling now?"
Camie tried getting up, wanting to prove that she was perfectly well. However Doctor Marianne glanced at Black Gold who didn't leave Camie's side for a second and immediately shook her head:
"Please, lay down.
-Oh..."
Camie slid back down and nodded:
"I'm perfectly fine. Thank you."
Black Gold immediately grimaced:
"Do you have the results?
-We're going to run a few more tests just in case. But the good news is that you seem stable for now."
Black Gold sighed way too loudly for what Camie had.
"Thank you. I will forever be grateful to you."
Doctor Marianne held back a laugh:
"Please, I am simply doing my job. I should be the one thanking you for ensuring that less and less people find themselves between our walls. In the meanwhile, is there anything I could do for you?"
Camie shook her head:
"What about T- Black Gold's results?"
Both Doctor Marianne and Black Gold frowned which made Camie frown in turn:
"She must have hurt herself when she flew through the window earlier."
Having not thought about it before, Doctor Marianne suddenly felt bad:
"If you allow me..."
But Black Gold interjected:
"The patient needs rest and quiet."
"Of course. This room is soundproof but we will keep it as calm as possible despite that. Is there something else I could help you with?"
Camie got placed into a VIP suit mostly to protect Black Gold from the stares. But it was already too late. Their entrance was way too loud for people not to have noticed them and word quickly spread that Black Gold was inside the building.
"Wait! Black Gold-"
Camie didn't have time to talk about Black Gold's injuries because the latter went on:
"She probably would like to call her family as well."
Doctor Marianne quickly nodded:
"Of course. There is a phone at your disposal for such. Please don't refrain from calling me if you need anything.
-Thank you."
Once the Doctor left the room, Camie immediately turned to Black Gold:
"Why didn't you want her to examine you? What about your wound? Is it because of your secret identity? I'm sure she won't say anything. You should get treated.
-You are the one who got hurt, not me. I really appreciate your concerne but the real patient is you.
-How could I focus on myself when you got hurt because of me?
-I could be saying the same thing!"
Both of them froze.
"What?
-I... I'm sorry... I shouldn't be yelling at you. I was just very scared and I need to calm down."
But Camie wasn't going to ignore her words:
"What did you mean by that?
-Nothing.
-What did you mean?
-It's just... If I had been there...
-Stop saying that! Nothing is your fault! You saved me! You didn't do anything wrong!
-Okay... I understand, now. I don't know why I said that. Please, calm down. It can't be good for your head.
-I won't calm down! Not until you get yourself treated!
-I am not hurt...
-Stop lying! You jumped through a window!
-I am really fine.
-Then show me."
Black Gold froze under Camie's unwavering gaze.
"What...
-Show me. Take your shirt off and show me your back.
-I... I assure you that I am not hurt.
-How could I believe you? You won't let the Doctor see your wounds."
Camie was so tired that tears started swelling up in her eyes. That was the last straw for Black Gold and she quickly raised her hands in a sign of peace:
"Okay! I will show you please just don't cry.
-I am not crying."
But Camie was in fact sniffling. She had gone through way too many emotions in a few minutes and she had no idea what she was feeling anymore. All she knew was that if Black Gold got hurt because of her, she would feel terrible. Black Gold quickly turned around and raised her shirt slowly. But Camie couldn't see anything because of the dark smoke surrounding her body.
"Hum...
-Oh, sorry."
When the black smoke was gone around Black Gold's back, Camie was surprised to see that there in fact was nothing on Black Gold's skin.
"But... How?"
Black Gold put her shirt back. She knew that she was a superhero but how could she be completely fine? Seeing Camie's confusion made Black Gold blush:
"I don't get hurt so easily."
She laughed to lighten the mood but only made it worse:
"Getting hurt isn't funny. Should I start joking about me hitting that tree like a pancake on a pan?"
Black Gold immediately felt her heart throb.
"You're right, I apologize. It won't happen again."
Camie pinched her lips:
"And I'm sorry for screaming at you.
-I accept your apology. You did it because you were worried and I appreciate it. Do you accept mine?
-Yes."
Black Gold sighed:
"Thank you."
They smiled at each other, the mood lighter than at the beginning. Feeling stared at by Black Gold, Camie cleared her throat.
"You don't have to stay by my side by the way. I'm perfectly fine."
Every time Camie said she was fine, Black Gold would wince:
"I don't want you to be alone. I will stay until we get the final results back.
-But... What about the rumors?"
It was very dangerous for Black Gold's identity to be seen with her at the hospital. It wasn't eht first time Black Gold brought patients to the hospital but she never stayed with them for so long. What if people discovered her identity because of that? What if Camie was the reason why Black Gold got found out? Just thinking about it sent chills down her spine.
Black Gold on the other hand didn't seem to care at all. She looked out the window and looked at the journalists at the entrance. The medical staff as well as the patients were very respectful and the journalists were kept at the entrance. However Camie could still hear them complaining that they couldn't get in. She couldn't help imagining the worst.
"I'm not leaving you."
Black Gold finally sat down for the first time since they arrived and crossed her arms.
"But..."
Black Gold didn't let her finish and handed her the phone:
"Your father must be really worried. You should call him."
Camie's father left everything he was doing and jumped into his car no matter how many times Camie insisted that she was fine. The same happened when she called her friends and hearing the commotion behind the phone made Black Gold smile:
"They really care about you."
Camie couldn't help blushing:
"I know...
-I'll stay with you until they arrive.
-Thank you but you really don't have to.
-I want to."
The room fell into a comfortable silence, the tension from earlier having completely disappeared. Having calmed down a bit, Camie's thoughts drifted to the elderly woman:
"Do you think she'll be okay?"
Black Gold nodded.
"She's in good hands. She'll be fine thanks to you. You saved her life.
-I didn't. You saved her. I just saved time.
-That's the same."
Camie couldn't hold her smile back and Black Gold thought she was adorable. She would have squished her cheeks if she wasn't so worried about Camie's health.
