Chapter 0159 +25 BONUS Chapter 0159 Ella POV The silence that followed was so pronounced it felt heavy. Alexander didnât respond, and the seconds dragged on long enough that I glanced at my phone to make sure the call hadnât dropped.
âAlexander?â I said softly. âDid I say something wrong?â
âNo, not at all,â he answered quickly, though there was a slight edge to his voice. âYouâre right, of course. You should have met my family by now. Itâs an oversight on my part that you havenât.â
âI donât want to pry,â I said uncertainly.
âNo, of course not,â Alexander said, his tone steadying, âYouâre not prying at all. Iâll speak to my mother and make arrangements.â
I nodded, even though he couldnât see me. âAll right,â I said softly. But something about Alexanderâs tone left me uneasy.
I couldnât shake the feeling that something wasnât quite right. Alexander had never struck me as embarrassed by his family. Heâd spoken of them beforeâbrieflyâbut I hadnât gotten the sense he was hiding anything. So why had the thought of me meeting them drawn such a reaction from him?
Surely, it was obvious that if he and I were going to get marriedâeven if it was fakeâI would eventually have to meet his mother.
Then again, Iâd been nervous about Alexander meeting my parents too. Maybe I was just overthinking it. Things would probably be fine. Probably.
âAre you sure nothingâs wrong?â I asked, my voice soft but insistent. âIâll be honest, your reaction is concerning.
âIâm simply distracted,â Alexander said with a slight laugh, though it didnât quite reach his usual confidence. Thereâs a lot of work to be done.â
âYes,â I said hesitantly. âI guess thatâs normal for you.â
11 âMaybe I havenât been sleeping enough,â he said dismissively. âAt any rate, everything is fine. Thereâs no need for you to be concerned.â
âIâm glad to hear it,â I replied, though his tone didnât fully ease my worries.
âI owe you for reminding me, actually. My motherâs going to be furious if I leave her out of the wedding planning. I canât believe I overlooked something like this.â
âWe certainly donât want her to be upset,â I said with a faint smile.
The fact that Alexander had forgotten about his mother when it came to the wedding planning told me they mustnât be particularly close. I supposed that wasnât unusual for a grown man, especially one who had been more or less on his own in the capital for the last few years. As much as Alexander worked, I doubted he had much time to go home for a visit.
Still, I couldnât help feeling sad for him. Heâd lost his father and wasnât close to his mother. Other than August, I hadnât met anyone who could be considered Alexanderâs friend. His life seemed consumed by work, leaving little room for anything else.
At least we managed to have some fun together, I thought. Maybe when this was all said and done, heâd have learned to balance things a little more. If I could help him with that, then all of this trouble weâd gone through together might at least have a happy outcome.
Chapter 0159 +25 BONUS âYouâll have to come to our packlands,â Alexander said suddenly. âItâll be the easiest way for you to meet the whole family and for me to properly introduce you to the pack.â
âOh,â I replied, startled. It hadnât even occurred to me that visiting Alexanderâs packlands would be part of this arrangement. Iâd never been that far north before. Alexander spent so assumed that was where weâd stay.
âuch time in the capital that Iâd just âIs that going to be a problem?â he asked, his tone curious but cautious.
âNot at all,â I said quickly. âI look Ito it.â
