+25 BONUS Chapter 0024 âIf you really loved her, you wouldnât use the term âwolfless.ââ
I turned toward the voice and found Alexander approaching with a fiery look in his eyes.
should as you âItâs an inherently offensive term, and itâs not accurate. Her wolf is merely dormant due to illness, all well know since she is the daughter of a prominent Alpha and her first shift was well celebrated. Having a dormant wolf due to illness is temporary, even if it lasts for years, and it is something that Ella will no doubt recover from. It is in no way a defect.â
I felt my heartbeat flutter as I listened to Alexanderâs defense of me. He was right, but more importantly, he was making David seem like a jerk.
âHeâs right,â I said, turning back toward the cameras. âMy wolf is with me still; sheâs only dormant, and Iâm following the advice of my doctor to recover from this illness and bring my wolf back to full strength. Itâs only a matter of time before it happens. I am not wolfless, and I am perfectly capable of fulfilling my duties to my pack.â
The crowd around us applauded, which caught me off guard and made me blush with embarrassment. Alexander was still standing close behind me, which helped me feel a little more confident as I turned toward David.
âYouâve known about this for years,âI pointed out. âSo if you had a problem with it, I really hope you wouldnât have proposed to me anyway.â
This got a loud reaction from the crowd as I heard people murmuring to themselves about Davidâs pompous behavior.
Amanda had approached in the crowd, and I could see her frowning deeply; her unhappy expression mirrored Davidâs.
Third Person POV David left early from the banquet. He was so humiliated by Alexanderâs speech and the crowdâs reaction to him that he couldnât bear to stay. He and Amanda had met outside and headed back to his home.
During the drive, he watched his phone as people reacted to the news, not only of Ellaâs illness but also of Alexanderâs eloquent defense of her and his own unkind words.
He glared at the screen. He had practiced that speech and chosen the words carefully. He never expected using the word âwolflessâ to cause a backlash against him.
When had people gotten so sensitive about word choices? There was no real difference between being wolfless.and having a dormant wolfâeither way, it meant that Ella couldnât shift and she was weak because of it The whole point of tonight was to take Ella down a peg and damage her newfound selfâconfidence, but thanks to Alexander stealing the spotlight and making David look like a fool, that hadnât happened.
Davidâs hatred of Alexander was growing by the day. It would make it all the more satisfying to defeat him in the race for Alpha King.
Amanda remained quiet during the drive, uncertain of what to say. David had a tendency to lash out when he was angry, and she didnât want that anger to be aimed at her.
Suddenly, Davidâs phone began to ring. It was a call from Ea.
He answered it immediately. Whatâs wrong?â he asked.
âNothing.â Ella replied. âYou left so quickly that I was worked you might be upset. I just wanted to check on you!!!
+25 BONUS Chapter 0024 âIâm fine,â he said. âIâm just not very good at speaking to reporters like that, and I didnât want to say something wrong again and have it taken out of context.â
ny more of your âI see,â Ella said with a bored tone to her voice. âWell, as long as youâre all right, I wonât take up any time.â
The call ended, and David threw his phone on the ground. When had Ella gotten so cold? She didnât care that he had left at all!
She hadnât even come after him.
âItâs okay,â Amanda said, reaching out to touch his arm lightly.
âHow is it okay?â he demanded, whirling around to glare at her.
The sudden movement startled Amanda, but she recovered quickly and smiled at David. âI already have a backup plan ready to go,â she said.
