Chapter 0063 Chapter 0063 Ella POV âThe fact that you arenât playing his game only helps you, âElizabeth assured me.
âIâm glad you think so, but I find it hard to believe,â I said.
Elizabeth took a sip of her drink.
The waiter had cleared our plates when we finished our food. Now, we were just sharing a few drinks as we talked. I was surprised by how invested Elizabeth seemed in my wellbeing.
I hadnât expected to make a new friend so quickly, and I was relieved to have someone to talk to. Everything with David was so much more difficult than I thought it would be.
âI donât know if you use social media, but I do, and many people have made their support for you clear. David is only making a fool of himself by continuing on this way.â
âThatâs sad,â I said softly. âI wish he would just move on.â
want.â
âOh, I hope this isnât upsetting you,â Elizabeth said sympathetically. âWe can change the subject if you âItâs just... I really do wish he would find something better to do with his time than thinking about me. If he were this dedicated to me when we were together, we wouldnât have had these problems.â
âWell, that is sad to think about,â Elizabeth said softly. âI hadnât considered it from that point of view.â
âPeople are posting about their support of me? And David is responding to these posts and comments?â I asked. This has happened recently?â
Elizabeth nodded.
âShow me,â I said, pointing towards her phone. âI want to see what heâs saying â
Elizabeth unlocked her phone and opened one of her apps. âIf youâre sure,â she said, âthough it might be upsetting. Heâs not exactly being nice.â
I took the phone from her and didnât have to scroll far before I saw a post from David that was made less than an hour ago.
âYour gossip and slander mean nothing to me. Ella and I are meant to be together. Anyone who thinks they can win her away from me is a fool.â
âWin me away from him?â I said in confusion as I handed Elizabethâs phone back to her. âWhatâs he talking about?â
Elizabeth glanced down at the post, then shrugged. âPeople have been defending you, including some other single men. I donât think itâs anything especially passionate certainly nothing that should make David so obviously jealous. People are simply saying that you deserve better.â
âItâs strange,â I said.
âI donât think itâs very strange,â Elizabeth said. âAfter all, heâs made a spectacle of himself recently. When people decide that they want public attention, they must also be prepared for that attention to be negative. Itâs inevitable that people will find something to criticize. David should know better.â
âYou sound like you speak from experience,â I said.
Elizabeth smiled awkwardly. âI do,â she admitted. âAfter all, I am the only child of the Alpha King. People have 1/3 +25 BONUS D Chapter 0063 many things to say about me, and a lot of the time, itâs not very nice. Of course, most never be so bold as to say it to my face, but I hear them nonetheless.â
âThat must be so stressful,â I said sympathetically.
I had heard plenty of rumors about Elizabeth. Most of them had to do with her desire to take over as alpha of her pack, a position that her fatherâs beta currently filled.
âThatâs what drew me to you in the first place,â Elizabeth said. âYou handled the harsh rumors about your woll so well. I knew that you must be a strong woman, just like me, and I thought that we would get along.â
âI think you were right,â I said with a smile. âIt seems to me we get along wonderfully.â
âI donât have a lot of friends,â Elizabeth admitted. âItâs difficult to become close to people when it seems that everyone is constantly watching me and waiting for me to make a mistake.â
âI would never judge you for a mistake,â I said. âAfter all, regardless of your status, you are still a person. You deserve to be treated with respect and kindness.â
âI wish more people believed like you do,â she said.
âIâm curious about one thing.â
âWhatâs that?â Elizabeth asked. âYou can ask me anything âWell, why are you following the rumors about me online if you know that rumors and gossip can be so hurtful?â
âItâs important to know what public opinion is on certain matters,â Elizabeth said. âIt helps to understand how to handle people and what issues might arise in the future.â
âI see,â I said.
She smirked slightly and took another sip of her drink. âBesides, I find it amusing. People have started to speculate about who might be romantically interested in you now that youâve rejected David.â
My eyes went wide with surprise at this. âAre people really talking about that?â I asked.
âOh yes,â Elizabeth said, unlocking her phone and scrolling âThere are even lists.â
âThatâs ridiculous,â I said dismissively. âWhy would people waste their time making lists of who they think might be interested in me?â
Elizabeth shrugged. âI donât know why people do it; I just know that they have. Would you like to hear some of the names?â she asked with a mischievous grin.
â..â My words trailed off as I thought about it.
I was strangely curious about what people might be saying I hadnât considered that an actual relationship might follow my breakup with David. After all, Iâd already planned to follow through with my fake relationship with Alexander.
I couldnât deny that I was curious about who else might genuinely like me.
âIâll take your hesitation as a yes,â Elizabeth said. âHere are the top three names I keep seeing: Damian Rose, the oldest son of the Briar Rose Alpha; Jonathan Oak of the Red Oak Pack; and Alexander Black.â
âAlexander?!â I said in shock.
I put my hand over my mouth after my outburst. I hadnât meant to be so loud, but I was genuinely shocked that people would speculate about Alexander being interested in me.
Chapter 0063 +25 BONUS Elizabeth smiled. âIt seems that his wedding gift to you has gotten quite a bit of attention. I think people were asking him if he intended to take the gift back after the wedding was called off, and he said that he wished for you. to keep it and that you deserved to have fine things. People have read a lot into that statement.â
âI hadnât heard anything about that,â I said. âThatâs so kind of him.â
âHeâs been very kind to you, it seems,â Elizabeth said with a smile. âAnd he isnât generally a very warm person, so people have begun to talk.â
âThatâs going to make David so angry,â I muttered. âHe hates Alexander.â
âWell, if David didnât want another man to pursue you, he should have treated you better,â Elizabeth said dismissively. âAnd I agree with Alexanderâyou do deserve fine things.
âThank you,â I said softly.
I knew that Alexander was speaking highly of me to set the stage for our eventual relationship, but I still found his words touchingâand Elizabethâs as well.
It warmed me to know that I had people, besides my parents, who genuinely cared for me. It gave me hope that everything I was going through with David and Amanda would be worth it in the end.
It made me believe that I may be able to have a happy future, even without David.
My happy thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of my phone. I looked at the screen, and a cold feeling came over me. It was my father
