The morning sun shone through the window of the boys' bedroom. It was warm and gently stirred Luca awake. He groggily opened his eyes, but well rested. He slept better than he had in months. The young sea monster found himself still in the embrace of his lover. Alberto was lying on his back as Luca's head rested on his chest. Tilting his head up ever so quietly as not to wake Alberto, Luca's gaze fell upon his other's half face. He looked so peaceful and content as his chest slowly rose and fell, breaths steady. Luca gently put his ear to Alberto's chest. He smiled as he realized their heart beats were synced.
Luca decided to get up without waking his companion. In fact, the blue sea monster was surprised that Alberto was not yet awake as he usually was at this hour for morning fish deliveries.
He deserves the extra rest. Luca thought as he carefully peeled himself out of bed as not to wake Alberto. Luca placed a gentle and thoughtful kiss right on Alberto's forehead.
Luca made his way out to the kitchen feeling famished. He started to eagerly prepare himself a bowl of vitalis, his favorite Italian ceral. Before Luca came up to the surface for the first time, his diet consisted of mostly seaweed, sea cucumbers, and kelp. Occasionally, his mother would prepare crab for special celebrations and sea folk traditions from his father's show winning crabs. But, even then he was never really excited for crab because it was one of four foods in his life. But after discovering the island last summer, Luca was introduced to so many foods. He didn't know how he survived his whole 15 years only eating four foods.
Now don't get him wrong, Luca tried many foods he didn't like but, being a sea folk who only ate four foods before coming to the surface, he was not a picky eater in the slightest. Luca's new favorite foods of the human cuisine included Risotto, Trenette Al Pesto, and of course Gelato. Luca had gelto almost everyday in his new life of taking on the role of a human and he wouldn't have it any other way.
He happily smiled as he downed his bowl of ceral with lattee intero. Did Luca also mention his new found love for milk. He LOVED milk!
As Luca was busy wiping his milk mustache off of his chin, Alberto came out into the kitchen. There was a droopy purple tinge under his eyes and his hair was messy from sleep. He faintly rubbed his eyes and made his way over to his boyfriend. Alberto leaned over and placed a kiss on Luca's brown messy curls before heading over to the fridge to fix himself a bowl of cereal as well.
Ba dump. Luca's heart did a little dance. Nope, mornings with Alberto would never get old, dating or not.
"Morning Paguro" Alberto flashed Luca a calm, cool, collected, toothy grin as tried to act as smooth as possible. This was his attempt to show off to his new mate in true Alberto fashion.
Luca shook his head.
Same old Beto, He thought. Luca calmly collected himself and gathered his bowl and spoon as he made his way over to the sink. He stood right next to Alberto as he placed his dishes in the sink and a kiss on his lover's cheek.
"Couldn't be better, and you my pesce piccolo?"
It was now Alberto's turn to hear his own heartbeat in his ears. He had never heard that nick name before. And gosh, it was so damn adorable.
"You got the morning off of deliveries Beto?" Luca asked as he went to go sit in the arm chair by the window with his book.
"You betcha Bubble, I usually take Sunday mornings off to make Massimo breakfast in bed, the big guy likes to sleep in after a long week of work." Alberto replied as he saw down to eat.
Luca absentmindedly smiled. Cute. He thought.
Alberto finished his breakfast and washed the last few dishes in the sink. He started to get out more ingredients to prepare Massimo and now Giulia's breakfast. Alberto had mentioned that he was learning to cook in his letters to Luca during the school year, but it was interesting to Luca to see him do it in person. Besides, he would be the judge and decide if Beto's cooking was truly any good or not.
Luca half payed attention to his book and half payed attention to Alberto as he cooked away in the kitchen, thinking his boyfriend wouldn't noticed the quick and short glances he kept sending his way. But little did Luca know, Alberto sent those same glances right over into his direction too. He half payed attention to Luca as he read and half payed attention to his cooking. Hopefully the meal would turn out just fine despite his lack of attention.
But this was nice, for both of the boys. It was nice to finally be at ease with one another. It was nice to finally have everything out in the open. Luca took a deep breath in as the crisp end of summer morning breeze coming from the window hit his face. He smiled, looking over at Alberto trying to crack an egg, but it ended up on the floor instead of the bowl. Machiavelli helped lick up the yellow egg yolk residue that now resided on the floor as Alberto cursed under his breath. Luca quietly chuckled to himself.
I could get used to this. He thought as he leaned back and turned his attention back to his book once again.
