Soon after setting off the fire alarm for the fifth time, Alberto was done cooking and Massimo and Giulia were awake, just sitting down to eat their colazione. By this time, Luca was finished with his second book and was fast asleep in the arm chair with the book resting open on his face. The clock on the wall struck 11:30 am.
Ding.
Alberto placed two plates down in front of his two family members with a proud smile on his face. The breakfast only consisted of eggs, toast, jam, and potatoes but regardless, Alberto was proud. At least this time, he only burned everything five times instead of six. Typically he was done cooking their breakfast by 1 pm but he was an hour and a half early this morning. He was definitely getting better at cooking.
"Aye, grazie fratello." Giulia yawned. She a took bite off eggs and made a noise of satisfaction. "Your cooking gets better every week! Yum!"
Massimo took his bite and gave Alberto a pat on the back. "Si, I agree with Giulietta. Grazie figlio."
Alberto gave them a smug grin, proud of what he had just done for his famiglia.
"It's not a problem." He replied.
Alberto looked over at Luca to see if his boyfriend just saw the praise he got for being a good chef. But instead, he was surprised with the sight of Luca fast asleep with a book on his face. Alberto chuckled.
It's 11 am and Bubble's already tired. He thought smiling to himself.
Alberto sneakily looked over at Massimo and Giulia to see if they were watching him. He wasn't sure what or if Luca wanted to tell their family about the prior nights events just yet. As they were distracted by their breakfast, Alberto scooped up his boyfriend and brought him to their room and closed the door.
Luca shot his eyes open, a shock of surprise coursing throughout his body to find himself in a pair of very strong arms.
"GAHHH!" Luca yelled as he flailed his arms sending Alberto into a tumble on the floor and ultimately making them both fall over and topple onto the ground.
Alberto stared down at his boyfriend as they found themselves in an interesting position. Alberto pinned Luca's body to the floor as they made eye contact. Alberto gave Luca a shy smile.
"Heh..sorry about that Bubble."
Luca's cheeks grew red. He booped Alberto on the nose.
"It's okay Beto, I just didn't expect to wake up in mid air." The brunette chuckled.
"Luca, I was kind of wondering..." Alberto put his hands behind his back and glanced at the ground, he wasn't sure how to phrase the question he wanted to ask.
Luca put his hand on his boyfriend's shoulder.
"Wondering what?"
"Well, um what you want to tell our families about our new development."
Alberto grinned from ear to ear, he still couldn't wrap his head around the fact that he was dating the prettiest boy in all of Portorosso.
Luca grew nervous and started fiddling with his hands.
"Beto of course I want to tell them, it's just that, well, I'm not sure how they will react."
"Why that's?"
"Well, in Genova I learned about relationships like ours."
"Relationships like ours?"
"Being with the same gender as yourself."
"But Luca, we're not even human, we know plenty of same gender sea folk mates."
"I know Beto, I know. It's just that we live our lives primarily on the surface and we're already different from the other humans because we're sea monsters, and if we give them another reason to..." Luca started to ramble as his nerves got worse.
Alberto walked up behind Luca and wrapped his hands around his waist while resting his head on his shoulder.
"Hey, tesoro, deep breaths, it's okay. We will figure this out one step at a time, we can take as long or as little as you need to tell people."
Luca inhaled slowly. One step at a time.
"What do you think Beto?"
"Luca if I could shout to the whole world that I was dating the prettiest, smartest, most awesomely wonderful boy in the world, there would be no hesitation."
Luca looked his partner in the eyes. Gosh, what a deep beautiful green. Luca took Alberto chin between his pointer finger and his thumb. He slowly leaned in and pressed his lips against Alberto's. Alberto sighed into the kiss. Whenever his lips were against Luca's, everything felt right in the world. He knew he was right where he needed to be. Dio mio, they wasted so much time.
"I love you caro." Luca said as he pulled away. "Let's tell everyone tonight, at dinner."
Alberto smiled. He was nervous of what Massimo was going to say but he didn't to hide the most precious thing in his life and that was Luca.
