âWhat?â Holden thought he had misheard Bennett.
After a tense silence, Bennett clarified, âYou heard me right.
He plans to inject some bizarre concoction into Ariana to transfer her blood to Emilia, bringing her back to life.
â
âNo way.
â Holden chuckled as he couldnât take the absurd idea seriously.
âThereâs no such technology in this world that could do that.
Moss is living in a fantasy!â
âDonât get me wrong.
I agree with you.
But he has lost it; nobody can shake him out of his crazy obsession.
â Bennett sighed as he slipped his hands into his pockets.
With a casual air, he added, âPerhaps youâre the only one who can stop him.
â
âWhy me?â Holden turned to Bennett, confusion painted all over his face.
âCanât you do it?â
Bennett shook his head slowly as he held Holdenâs gaze in silence.
Bennettâs calm demeanor left Holden even more puzzled.
Holden knew that Bennett was Mossâ nephew.
He believed it would make more sense for Bennett to reason out with Moss.
But apparently, Bennett couldnât.
Bennettâs words also hinted that only he could handle the matter.
Maybeâ¦
âYour uncle doesnât fully trust you, does he?â Holden asked.
Silence took over Bennett.
He stared at Holden for a while before raising his head.
âMy affairs are none of your business.
Stop asking about that.
â
Holden was a bit shocked but then snorted dismissively.
âIâm not interested in your life.
Just donât screw up our mission.
â
Without bothering for a response from Bennett, he turned his back on him and began scanning the area.
Bennett couldnât help scoffing before glancing at the ice coffin.
He then followed Holdenâs lead.
Despite their banter, they knew their priority-finding Ariana.
They searched all over the place but were still unable to find her.
As the clock ticked, Holden grew more anxious, leaving him overthinking.
His mind drifted back to Moss mentioning that he wanted to go back to the lab during dinner.
Could he have already done something to Ariana?
Just the thought of it sent shivers down his spine.
He turned his focus back to the search.
He tried to reassure himself that it was unlikely that Moss would get rid of Arianaâs body so fast in a confined space.
But soon, doubts crept in.
Why couldnât he find Ariana?
Frustration simmered within him.
Holden couldnât contain it any longer and slammed his fist into the wall.
He began to lose himself.
The more he thought about it, the more frustrated he became.
He punched the wall on repeat.
âWhatâs gotten into you all of a sudden?â Unlike Holden, Bennett was calm about the whole thing.
He added in a casual tone, âWe havenât found her perhaps because she might have escaped already.
â
Those words knocked some sense into Holden.
His fist stopped in the air as his rage dissipated slowly.
