âOf course, if you still want to cover up for the culprit, then even if Mr. Quast is a vegetable, someone in your family would still have to bear his responsibility for him. If that happens, then that responsibility will fall to his son. Do you understand?â
All colors drained from Darleneâs face at once.
Even the youth turned gloomy. The look in his eyes was one of a helpless child as he tugged his motherâs arm.
After saying that, Angeline left the hospital with the police without sparing the Quasts another glance.
How unlucky I am. I wanted to find out the truth of this matter, but I ended up sending myself to the station.
Fortunately, the local police officers were reasonable individuals. After taking off her sunglasses and mask to authenticate her identity, Angeline explained to them what had happened.
Moreover, Darlene and her family did not come to the station to continue kicking up a fuss, so Angeline was mostly fine.
After the officer asked her to sign the agreement, he shook his head in exasperation.
âI never thought a big star like you would come to a small county seat for a fight instead of filming. All right. Make a call to your family so that they can come and bail you out.â
Angeline then used the stationâs phone to call Nancy and tell her about her situation. She also asked Nancy to bail her out before the next morning.
Nancy had just wrapped up her work when she received Angelineâs call. Upon hearing Angelineâs request, she angrily and anxiously cried out, âMy sweet child, here I was so glad you finally stopped for a few days, but youâre at it again! Why didnât you tell me you were going to a county seat? You didnât even bring an assistant along. How are you going to explain this to the company if someone were to recognize you?â
âIâm sorryâ¦â
Angeline pursed her lips and wrung the hem of her shirt helplessly as she listened to Nancyâs scolding.
She knew that her identity did not let her do such things.
Angeline had wrapped herself up in so many layers she was dying from the heat, but if someone were to recognize her, she would have many troubles to resolve.
Nevertheless, it was still something she had to do.
If she could not bring justice to her parents, she doubted she could continue to live her life in peace.
Despite Nancyâs scolding, she later softened her tone and said, âOkay. Stay in the station and donât go anywhere. Iâll come to bail you out with the driver.â
With that, Nancy ended the call. She felt frustrated.
After switching off the computer and just as she was about to put on her coat, a handsome face appeared in her mind.
Right. There has always been a romantic tension between Angeline and Evander. Itâs clear that the two of them have feelings for each other, but both are too shy to take the first step toward the other. Isnât this the perfect chance to matchmake them? If Angeline becomes his wife, we wouldnât need to worry about any lack of resources for Angeline. Moreover, Iâll make it big too.
In the meantime, on the other side, after Evander alighted the plane, Sylas followed him out of Hallsbayâs airport with two black suitcases behind him.
The driver that Golding Group had sent was waiting for them at the airport entrance. When he saw them, he bowed and opened the car door for them.
âWelcome back, Mr. Golding.â
âMhm,â Evander mumbled before getting into the car.
After Sylas placed the suitcases in the back, he entered the car as well. With a happy look on his face, he said, âMr. Golding, you were so impressive! You obtained the project that we thought would take a week in two days! Even James was stunned and kept talking about how smart Chanaeans were.â
No one would be able to suppress the delight they felt about the extraordinary achievement.
Evander was calm as he tugged his collar with his slender fingers and stared out the window at the bustling city. Nevertheless, the slight curl of his lips showed the good mood he was in.
âWeâll pick up Floretta.â
Hearing that, Sylas said, âMr. Golding, Francesca messaged just as we exited the plane. She said that she had taken Ms. Floretta back to the Golding residence.â
Evander furrowed his brows slightly in response. Angeline sent Floretta back to the Golding residence?
âWhereâs Angeline?â
Right as he said that, Sylasâ phone rang, and he picked up the call. After exchanging a few words with the person on the other end of the line, Sylas ended the call.
âMr. Golding, it was Ms. Sorelleâs manager. She said that Ms. Sorelle was in a fight with someone at a county seat, and apparently, she was even injured.â
Evanderâs face paled, and he snapped his head upward. âSheâs injured? Did she go to a doctor right away?â
Sylas was startled by Evanderâs reaction, and he stammered, âI-I donât think so, but Ms. Sorelle is locked up at the station right now. Sheâs mostly fine, but she needs someone to bail her out. Her manager said sheâs too busy to do that right now, so sheâs asking if youâd mind doing it for her instead.â
Evander then let out a sigh at that, but his expression was still grim.
Havenât I prepared everything for her already? All she needed was to show up, but how did she end up getting herself locked up in the station? Is she a troublemaker by nature?
âWhich station is she at?â
âHuh? Mr. Golding, are you going there personally?â
Sylas froze for a moment when he heard Evanderâs question. However, when he saw Evanderâs icy look, he shuddered and quickly told the driver the address of the station.
It was already evening, and the county seat was three hundred kilometers away from Hallsbay.
Evander traveled all the way there without stopping and finally arrived at the station at eleven at night.
Just as he pushed open the door to the station, he saw Angeline quietly sitting in the lobby. She had pulled her legs up and curled into a small ball, looking pitiful.
She seemed lost in her thoughts, for she did not even notice the sound of the door opening.
Evander walked closer to her. He then saw her resting her chin on the back of her hand, her fringe flaccid against her forehead and covering her delicate features. She seemed gloomy.
âAre you planning to stay here overnight?â the man uttered in a magnetic voice, breaking the silence of the lobby.
Angeline snapped back to her senses. Her eyes widened, and she stiffly turned to look at Evander.
âMr. Golding? Why are you here?â
What? Didnât I tell Nancy to pick me up? Also, isnât he supposed to be overseas right now? How did he suddenly end up in a small county seat like this?
Just as she was overwhelmed by her confusion, a powerful gloved hand pulled her over to the side.
His sudden action caught her by surprise, and Angeline stumbled toward the tall man who was a head taller than her.
When she finally regained her balance beside the suited man, she became aware of how she was like a clown beside him. Hence, she kept her head lowered as she looked to the side.
Yet, Evander held her head up and forced her to look at his eyes.
âAre you hurt?â he asked, concern lacing his voice.
Is he not going to blame me for messing this up and ending up in a cell?
