After hanging up, Angeline played music in her car. As she was in a good mood, she started humming to the songs without realizing it.
Angeline realized that she was quite lucky. Evander was there to help right when she needed investments, and a press conference for The Journey was held when she needed public exposure.
She had to make good use of the chance to avoid being insulted by Evander.
Meanwhile, at Golding Group, Evander had just walked out of the conference room after having a meeting that lasted the whole afternoon. Exhausted, he handed his documents to Sylas, who was following him.
On the way back to his office, Evander loosened his necktie, revealing his fair collarbones. Once he sat in his office chair, he shut his eyes and took a short rest.
The sound of disputes among the shareholders still reverberated in his mind.
At the sight of Evander resting, Sylas poured him a cup of coffee out of habit. Handing the coffee to Evander, he began, âMr. Golding, Ms. Sorelleâs matters have been handled. Everything is proceeding smoothly. Also, the press conference for The Journey will be held officially tomorrow night after your assistance.â
âAll right. You can go now.â
Evanderâs furrowed brows eased. When he opened his eyes, his gaze was gentler.
Angeline must be happy now.
After the previous argument with Angeline about Hanson, Evander finally made it up by helping her, clearing any possibility of her having any dirt on him.
Evander looked more relaxed than ever. Even a few cups of coffee wouldnât have that effect on him.
Upon seeing the change in his expression, Sylas sighed, thinking that Angeline must be extraordinary.
After all, he had been working for Evander for so many years; it was the first time he had seen him generously invest a large sum of money in a company just for a woman.
âYou should go home earlier today, Mr. Golding. Ms. Sorelle said she will prepare stew for you.â
âShe said that herself?â
âYes.â Sylas nodded in reply. Having developed an eye for discerning peopleâs expressions, he knew exactly what Angeline would do from just one look.
âOkay, you can leave now. I still have some work to finish.â
Evander looked calm as he spun a pen skillfully with his slender fingers. He looked as though he didnât care at all, which made Sylas confused.
Sylas couldnât help but doubt himself. Have I guessed his wishes wrongly?
However, Evander was already gone when he entered the office with some documents an hour later.
Back at the Golding residence, Angeline was busy preparing pork stew in the kitchen. The aroma was pleasant and tantalizing.
At the same time, fearing that she might not have the time to cook for Evander and Floretta in the future, Angeline taught Francesca her secret recipe.
Floretta, who was playing with toy blocks in the living room, ran into the kitchen after smelling the aroma of the stew. After carrying a small chair into the kitchen, she stepped on it to look into the pot.
Angeline had just finished washing her hands when she saw Floretta drooling over the stew in the kitchen. After carrying Floretta down, Angeline, who was rarely stern, reprimanded, âDonât do that again, Floretta. What if the stew spills out? You can be scalded. Itâs very dangerous.â
Floretta shrugged and stuck out her tongue mischievously. âItâs because your stew smells too good, Angel. My tummy is attracted to it. I canât wait to eat it!â
Angeline was very pleased by Florettaâs sweet talk. Pinching her nose playfully, she said, âYou and your sweet tongue. Youâre so unlike your father!â
At the mention of it, Angeline realized that Florettaâs bubbly personality was the opposite of Evanderâs.
She must have gotten her personality from her motherâ¦
Her mother must be an exceptional woman to be able to impress Evander and give birth to such a cute child.
Angeline truly believed that. If Florettaâs mother showed up, she would back out of Evanderâs and Florettaâs lives completely.
Angeline felt a pang of jealousy at the thought of the woman that she had never met. The woman had already done everything by Evanderâs side. She couldnât bear to think about it anymore.
Just then, a boiling sound came from the pot in the kitchen.
Angeline instantly recovered from her daze. After turning off the stove, she lifted off the lid to check on the stew. Upon seeing the milky broth, she smiled with satisfaction.
Next, she opened the cabinet to get the final spice ingredient for the stew. However, she couldnât find it despite searching thoroughly a few times.
Floretta tilted her head curiously as she looked at Angeline. âAngel, is something missing?â
âYes. The stew will lose its distinct taste without this spice. Wait for me at home while I go to the supermarket, Floretta,â Angeline said anxiously.
Before she could take off her apron, Floretta grabbed her hand and winked mysteriously at her.
âCome with me, Angel.â
Floretta led Angeline toward the mansionâs backyard. When she opened the door, a garden was revealed.
Angeline followed Floretta closely as it was the first time she had been in the backyard of the Golding residence. She was surprised that there was a place like that in the Golding residence.
She observed the garden curiously. Every patch seemed like it was carefully taken care of because there wasnât any weed to be seen.
Besides vegetables and spices that were commonly used for cooking, there were various exotic flowers that she couldnât recognize. She couldnât even recall seeing those flowers on encyclopedias before.
âAngel, do you see the spice that you want here?â Floretta asked Angeline with her clear voice.
Angeline looked around the garden. Finally, her gaze landed on a patch of onions in the corner of the garden. Smiling, she replied, âThere is, but the soil will make your feet dirty. Wait for me here, Floretta.â
âOkay!â
Floretta followed Angelineâs instructions obediently. Squatting down, she let loose a yellow rubber duck in a pool as she hummed a nursery rhyme.
Stepping over the soil, Angeline picked the spice that she wanted. As her gaze fell upon a bush of blue roses, her curiosity was sparked.
What type of flower is this? How is there no fragrance when it is so beautiful?
Angeline couldnât help but reach out for the flower. She was about to pluck it when a manâs cold voice suddenly rang beside her.
âDonât touch it!â
Startled, she immediately retracted her hand but was pricked by the sharp thorn in the process.
âOw!â
Angelineâs face twisted in a grimace of pain as she hurriedly covered her pricked finger.
Then Evander walked up to her and grabbed her hand.
âAre you hurt?â Evander asked anxiously.
âIâm fine. Itâs just a prick on my finger. Itâs no big deal,â Angeline replied. Then, shooting Evander a begrudging look, she added, âWhy were you so flustered? You scared me.â
Evanderâs face darkened the moment she said that.
âThis place is forbidden. Never barge in here without any reason next time!â Evander said irritably.
âHuh? Why?â
Angeline was confused, but Evander didnât have the time to explain to her. Grabbing Angelineâs hand and leading her out of the backyard, he then carried Floretta with another hand and brought them back into the house.
