Hearing that, Sebastian looked up and gazed at her with a trace of skepticism in his eyes, as though he couldnât confirm if she was talking to him.
It was only after gazing at her for a while that he shifted his attention back to his drawing board.
âWhy are you ignoring me, Sebastian?â
Floretta creased her brows in protest.
âAngel says we have to get along, so you canât be so cold.â
Unable to focus on his activity due to the little girlâs rambling, Sebastian turned around and glared at her, gesturing for her to zip her mouth shut.
Angelineâs face fell when she saw that, and she contemplated taking Floretta away. Heâs way too cold.
Surprisingly, the girl was only stunned for a moment before breaking into a grin.
âYou finally stopped ignoring me, Sebastian! That means weâre friends now. Allow me to introduce myself. My nameâs Floretta Golding. I go to kindergarten. Have you been to kindergarten? Itâs really funâ¦â
Having finally found someone her age to speak to, Floretta instantly went into a full-blown conversation, seemingly ready to tell Sebastian every single detail about her life.
In contrast, the boy stared at her with disdain, although he showed no sign of resistance.
Seeing the two children, Nancy bent over and laughed out loud before pulling Angeline over to the couch next to the coffee table.
âIt looks like we might have a cure for Sebastian. Heâll never be bored with Floretta around.â
Finally getting a break after having busied herself all night, Angeline leaned into the couch and sighed gently.
âIâm having a hard time imagining how theyâd be able to play with each other, though.â
Theyâre from two different worlds. Itâs just that sheâs so cheery that she doesnât care about how distant Sebastian is.
âDonât worry about it too much.â
Nancy grabbed a flask to refill Angelineâs glass with water.
âNow that Sebastian will be okay for the time being, what about you? Did you see Mr. Golding at the station?â she asked, beaming.
âYeah.â
âAnd?â
Angeline felt an incoming headache at the mention of this, and she pinched her nose bridge in frustration.
âThereâs no progress. He seems to trust me even less now. Heâs also getting ready to deepen his relationship with his soon-to-be wife, so thereâs no way I can interfere with that.â
âAre you sure?â
Angeline fell silent upon hearing those words, and the act of her biting her nails reflected how torn she felt.
Nancy gazed at her solemnly before responding, âLet me ask you, then. Can you really let him go?â
The woman was bereft of words.
âThink about it carefully. Even if you canât be with him, I think you still owe Mr. Golding an apology so he doesnât misunderstand you.â
After saying that, Nancy hopped off the couch and grabbed her purse. âIâm off. I have a meeting tomorrow morning.â
Angeline hurriedly got up and walked her to the door, looking visibly touched as she gazed at her friend.
âI might still need your help with something, Nancy. Please help me take on a few roles.â
She had spent a large amount of her savings on looking for her child, only to then learn that he suffered from congenital heart disease.
Iâm going to need much more to get him treated. I canât give up. I have to keep going forward. Itâs the only way to turn our situation around.
Hearing that, Nancy patted Angelineâs shoulder in relief.
âYouâre finally making a comeback, Angie! You have no idea how many companies came looking for you after The Journey became a hit, but I turned all of them down.â
If Angeline wanted to get back into showbiz, that would be nothing but beneficial to her agency.
She was now an A-list celebrity, after all. It would be a waste if she were to disappear without a trace after going through all that effort to gain the popularity she now had.
After seeing Nancy off, Angeline returned to the ward only to see Sebastian teaching Floretta how to draw. For some reason, the two children looked rather harmonious as they each held a colored pencil and doodled away on the same drawing board.
âAngel!â Floretta cried out in excitement. âSebastian is so talented! He can draw so many other animals aside from pigs! I like him so much.â
Children were always honest with their feelings, and Sebastian lowered his head in shyness after hearing the girlâs remarks.
âIn that case, do your best to get along, okay?â Angeline reminded tenderly, feeling overjoyed deep down.
I canât believe it. Sebastian actually accepted her after her persistent efforts. This is a great sign! If they can continue to get along, Iâll have a lot less to worry about. It looks like I shouldnât have even worried about them competing with each other over my attention.
With Sebastianâs condition stabilizing, Angeline felt at ease and finally had a good nightâs sleep.
The next morning, she received a text message from Nancy, who had accepted a high-end cosmetic brand endorsement for her. The payment was especially lucrative, but filming was slated to begin that very afternoon.
Worried about leaving the two children at the hospital, Angeline requested Nancy to watch over them.
To placate the kids because she was about to start work soon, she also ordered some ingredients online to cook them something they liked.
The woman took three hours to prepare a pot of nutritious pork stew.
As soon as she brought the dish to the dining table, Floretta grabbed her tiny spoon and began eating to her heartâs content, stuffing spoonful after spoonful into her mouth.
âMmmm! Itâs so good. Your cookingâs gotten even better, Angel.â
âHelp yourself to more if you like it.â
Elated to hear the little girlâs praises, Angeline picked up her fork to serve Sebastian and herself some Buffalo wings.
The boy refused to touch his fork and was instead staring at them dubiously as though he couldnât believe the food was as good as Floretta had described.
Angeline knew what he was thinking, so she began coaxing him with a soft tone.
âGive it a try. Itâs not bad! You can spit it out if you donât like it.â
Under her encouragement, Sebastian finally picked up his cutlery and took a bite of the wing.
According to the doctor, Sebastian could now have some chicken to increase his nutrition. That was why Angeline had specifically prepared Buffalo wings with just a small amount of oil so as to reduce their greasiness. She knew the kids would enjoy them.
As soon as Sebastian bit into the chicken, he was filled with awe at how good it tasted, and he couldnât help but take a few more bites.
âDo you like it, Sebastian?â
Floretta beamed with delight and continued praising, âAngel makes the best food in the world. Even someone as picky as my daddy likes her cooking.â
Angeline shook her head in helplessness before serving them more food.
