Chapter 20 Kneeling and Pleading
âWhat do you mean?â Mr. Langley asked, annoyed.
âEichst my adopted daughter skip the exam? How did she get into Class One?â Tom asked, confused.
Mr. Langley looked at Tom and Meredith. The former was bewildered, as though he had no clue about Meredithâs grades Meanwhile, Meredith had a cold demeanor, like what they discussed had nothing to do with her.
Meredith had behaved similarly yesterday and hadnât defended herself at all, regardless of how Sonya
insulted her.
Mr. Langley initially thought she was timid, but he had never expected her to complete four exam papers in half the time allotted. She even scored full marks in all four subjects!
Meredith wasnât timid. She clearly embodied a confidence only an academic prodigy would have!
Although Mr. Langley was shocked, he was secretly glad he hadnât offended this exceptional student yesterday.
As Meredithâs guardian, Tom was utterly clueless about his adopted daughterâs grades, and he also believed the rumors about her!
Mr. Langley asked furiously. âWho spread a rumor that Ms. Reign skipped the exam?!â
Tom was perplexed, and he looked at Myra. Myra was also startled and looked at Ms. Miller in confusion. âI donât know. Ms. Miller asked me to look for Meredith yesterday, saying she skipped the examâ¦â
H
Upon seeing
that she was about to be thrown under the bus, Sonya immediately retorted, âI never said that Meredith skipped the exam!
Tom didnât care how the rumor of Meredith skipping the exam spread. He only cared about whether Meredithâs grades could bring him glory.
âSo, Mr. Langley, how did my Meredith do in the exam?â he asked. He had initially referred to her as âmy adopted daughterâ but had changed his tune and called her âmy Meredithâ instead.
Mr. Langley had seen many people like Tom and deliberately called him out. âIâve always heard that youâre a kindâhearted man who loves his children and has a happy family, Mr. Kane. But what I see today seems quite different from what the rumors say. You donât even know your childâs academic level.â
Tom turned red at Mr. Langleyâs words. Tom cared greatly about his reputation and couldnât stand being criticized, especially in front of many people. He felt uncomfortable and was close to losing his temper.
But he restrained himself and scratched his nose awkwardly. âMeredith has only been with us for a few days, and weâre not very close yet. Please forgive my ignorance.â
Meredithâs grades made Mr. Langley pity her for being adopted by such a family. He deliberately raised his voice and said, âFor the entrance exam, Meredith Reign scoredâ¦â He intentionally took a deep breath, âFull marks! She aced all four papers!â
âWhat?!â Myra exclaimed in disbelief.
Chapter 20 Kneeling and Pleading.
âThe entrance exam this time was more difficult than in previous years, but with her exceptional intelligence, Meredith completed four papers in half the time allotted and scored full marks. This has set a new Guinness record for Quantum Academy!â Mr. Langley declared proudly.
âSheâs just a country bumpkin⦠How can Meredith be the prodigy everyone was talking about on the forum? Are you sure you havenât made a mistake?â Myra couldnât accept it and was almost shrieking.
The schoolâs forum suddenly blew up last night with a post about a genius student who had completed. four papers in half the allotted time. The discussion had buried the anonymous post made by Myra to mock Meredith.
Everyone was speculating about the mysterious prodigy. Myra was also curious and spent the whole night browsing the forum, hoping to discover the identity of this prodigy that the entire school worshipped, but she didnât find anything. And Mr. Langley was now saying Meredith was that mysterious genius student!
No! This must be fake! I canât accept it! Meredith is a country bumpkin who came from a remote, povertyâstricken school! How can she be a prodigy?!
She recalled the sample exam questions she had prepared for Meredith. Meredith hadnât taken them back. then, and Myra didnât know what happened to the papers. Did Meredith take them without me knowing? Otherwise, how could she have scored full marks?!
âMeredith, I must apologize to you. I was oblivious yesterday and failed to recognize your talent. Can you forgive me?â Sonya suddenly fell to her knees with a thud before Meredith.
Sonya never expected this country bumpkin from the sticks to be a prodigy. Although she didnât want to accept it, her past experiences had taught her to swallow her pride and become the kind of person she hated. Someone who kneeled down to curry favor with someone they didnât like.
Her selfâesteem was worth nothing compared to her secure job at Quantum. If she was dismissed by Quantum Academy, her teaching career would be over. No school would dare to hire someone who was fired by Quantum!
She wasnât qualified to meet with Professor Stormborn and plead with him, so she could only beg Meredith for forgiveness.
Myra and Tom were both shocked by Sonyaâs actions. The homeroom teacher of Class One was actually kneeling and apologizing to Meredith!
