Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Almost

In Love with Mr. MafiaWords: 5529

I took a step back as my eyes filled with tears and dropped to my knees. It felt like he had just sucker-punched me in my stomach while wearing brass knuckles.

My body started to ache from all the pain I had done so well to distract myself from as I felt my blood run cold. His smile grew as he took me in and walked up to me.

“Why-w-why would—” I cut myself off and put my head in my hands as I began to sob.

“You took everything from me,” he growled, snatching my hands.

“YOU KILLED MY SON,” I screamed, hitting his nose with my head again.

He let me go and stumbled back, but before he could regain his balance I was swinging at him. I threw a punch at him only for him to catch my fist.

“I warned you about letting your emotions cloud your judgment,” he growled, referring to when he was teaching me to fight.

“Fuck you,” I growled before kneeing him in his balls.

He hunched over and chuckled dryly.

I punched him in his face again, making his head turn on impact. My body screamed at me to stop thinking I was Wonder Woman and I put my hands on my knees as I sobbed.

“You killed him,” I sobbed, dropping to my knees again as images of Leo laughing and smiling started to go through my head.

He turned his head to the side and spit the blood out of his mouth before turning his attention back to me. He walked up to me and punched me, making me fall.

I fell on my side and groaned as my sides and my jaw started to hurt. He took my gun from me and shot me in my arm without hesitation, making me scream in pain.

“Almost,” he growled as I whimpered, looking at my arm.

He aligned the gun with my head and put his finger on the trigger. I could still hear gunshots from downstairs, so I knew nobody was coming, but I didn’t care.

I looked him dead in the eye as I waited for him to pull the trigger. He shook his head like he got a better idea and dropped the gun before dropping to his knees.

“You took all of his firsts from me, so we’re just going to have to try again,” he said, ripping my shirt in half and unbuttoning my pants.

“No. NO! GET OFF OF ME!” I screamed, trying to crawl away from him. I started to hit him with my good arm and he picked up the gun before shoving it in my face.

“Either you stay still or I kill you,” he threatened, pressing it against my forehead.

“Kill me,” I spat.

He punched me again before wrapping his hand around my throat. He started to squeeze, but I could still feel his hand on my pants.

Black spots started to invade my vision as I tried to get air into my lungs. I sobbed as I felt helpless all over again. I was alone ~again~ and he was going to rape me ~again~.

I blinked heavily, feeling sleep take over just as I heard a gunshot and Johnathan fell on top of me. I coughed as I took in big gulps of air and said a silent “thank you” prayer.

Johnathan groaned but didn’t move. Giovanni pulled Johnathan off me and put his gun in his face.

“Alive or dead, Luna?” he asked, keeping his eyes on Johnathan.

“Alive,” I croaked, trying to get my heartbeat to slow down.

He nodded and shot Johnathan in both legs.

Marco and Angelo ran into the room and grabbed Johnathan before dragging him out.

Giovanni dropped his gun and took his jacket off before putting it on me and zipping it up to cover me up. He buttoned my pants for me before picking me up.

“He killed him, Giovanni,” I sobbed, burying my face in his chest.

Giovanni didn’t respond, but I knew he knew exactly who I meant. I felt a tear drop on my cheek, followed by sniffling.

I looked up at his face to see tears running down his own cheeks. “Put me down,” I mumbled.

He didn’t respond, but he did as asked. I wiped the tears from his cheeks and hugged him as tightly as I could.

“Mom?” a voice said from behind me.

I froze as I recognized it as Leo. I slowly let go of Giovanni but kept my eyes on him. He was staring past my head like he had seen a ghost.

I turned around to see Leo behind me and my heart stopped. I sobbed and dropped to my knees as I opened my arms the best I could.

He ran up to me and hugged me tightly. I hugged him tighter, ignoring my aching body, and sobbed. I pulled back to look him over and released a breath when I saw he was fine.

Johnathan lied about him being dead and I knew he did it to throw me off—it was something he taught me to look out for, but with Leo I couldn’t take that chance.

Leo smiled at Giovanni and ran into his arms. I smiled at the two of them and stood up as everybody else walked up to look at Leo.

“MOM!” Leo screamed as I started to fall.

I smiled weakly at him as my eyes started to close.

“No, no, Luna, keep your eyes open,” Giovanni said, picking me up.

“MOM?” Leo screamed again.

“Somebody get the kid,” Giovanni screamed before he put me down and I heard a car door close.

“I love you, Giovanni,” I said weakly, opening my eyes to look at him.

The car pulled off and I didn’t have to look outside to know he was driving way faster than he was supposed to.

“I love you too, Luna. Just keep your eyes open please, we’re almost there,” he begged.

“I-I can try,” I said weakly. “Promise me you’ll take care of Leo?” I asked.

“I don’t need to because you’re going to be fine,” he said, taking my hand and squeezing it gently.

“I know, but just promise me,” I said softly.

“Y-yeah, I promise,” he said, making me smile. I squeezed his hand as tightly as I could before letting myself get completely consumed by the darkness.
