Jason walked to Anastasia and pulled her into his arms. âAlastor, you lost when you didnât trust her.â
He continued, âBesides, you crossed the bottom line of a marriage.â Jason glanced at Felicia, who was eavesdropping in the distance. âI should thank you for giving up on Anastasia for a snobby and opportunistic woman like Feliciaâ
Alastor looked at Jason as he clenched his fingers tightly.
âCan anyone enter the chamber of commerceâs banquet as they wish now?â Being afraid Jason would speak ill of her, Felicia ran over promptly. âSecurity! Does this man have an invitation? Why is he in here?â
Felicia was still shouting.
Anastasia grabbed Jasonâs wrist. âLetâs go.â
With that, Anastasia left with Jason.
âAnastasia!â Alastorâs voice was low. âThink it over.â
However, Anastasia didnât say anything and left with Jason.
Though Anastasiaâs mind went blank, she didnât want Jason to be bullied.
âWhere did you rent your suit?â Anastasia turned around and asked.
Jason remained silent while following closely behind Anastasia.
âWhere is your ride?â Anastasia went around, looking for Jasonâs scooter.
âItâs at the parking lot. How can it be on the roadside?â Jason was lost for words by her question.
âYou parked your scooter at the parking lot?â Anastasia was surprised.
Jason could tell that Anastasia was in a bad mood and reached out to pull her wrist. âAnastasia, letâs talk.â
Anastasia avoided his gaze. âNothing⦠Thereâs nothing I want to say. What is there to talk about anyway? Letâs go home.â
âAnastasia, why did you come here when you knew that Alastor would humiliate you at the banquet?â
Jason wanted to know the answer.
She knew that Alastor and Felicia were trying to ruin her reputation.
Now, everyone at the banquet knew that Felicia had succeeded in taking over Anastasiaâs place and that Anastasia got dumped by Alastor.
No one would go to Anastasiaâs art exhibition even more.
To Jasonâs probing question, Anastasia stood silently by the roadside without saying anything.
âDid he threaten you with the venue or something?â Jason wanted Anastasia to tell him the truthi âAnastasia⦠You used to-tell me everything.â
âTell you⦠Tell you about what?â Anastasia was still in a breakdown. âLike six years ago, when I told you that I was bullied and almost violated by someone, you went to end his life without saying a word?
Jason⦠Six years ago, you got lucky because Harold didnât die. Also, you were still a minor back then.â
Since he was a minor, Jasonâs criminal record would be sealed up, and no organization or social unit would know about his past.
However, he had disappeared for six years.
The price of an impulsive action was being gone for six years.
Anastasia was terrified.
Now, she dared not tell Jason anything.
After all, once bitten, twice shy.
âBesides, the society is very realistic.â Anastasia took a deep breath and walked to the scooter by the roadside. âWeâll ride a scooter. Letâs not compete with those who drive a car.
Letâs goâ¦â
Jason looked at Anastasia in distress and walked over to hold her wrist. âWhy did you come here when you knew the scooter was not good enough for your gown?â
âWhat nonsenseâ¦â Anastasia wanted to cry. She said as she pointed at the scooter, âHurry up.â
Jason looked at Anastasia and didnât speak for a long time.
A man who came outside to take out the trash came over and looked at Anastasia and Jason with a wary face. âIs my scooter in the way?â
Jason was dumbfounded at first then he smiled. âSorry, no.â
Anastasia was pulled away by Jason to the parking space aside. âGet on. Iâll take you for some hot chicken wings, okay?â
Jason knew that Anastasia loved hot chicken wings.
The ordinary hot chicken wings could satisfy Anastasia and make her happy.
However, Alastor did not have even the slightest idea about this.
This was because Alastor never ate hot chicken wings. Also, he thought that the dish was overwhelmingly rich and unhealthy.
After she heard what Jason said, Anastasia wiped her tears and nodded. âHmm! I want some hot chicken wings.
She hadnât eaten something she liked in four years, all because of Alastor.
âI knew it. I shouldnât have tried to fit in a circle that I donât belong to. It was really tiring,â she thought.
