Chapter 3 - A Place To Hide
I watched helplessly as the men in uniforms marched up and down, how had they known so soon I wondered, I couldnât stop looking at the storage room, my whole body was shaking fiercely, all they had o do was open the door and there he would be clearly exposed.
âI canât believe aliens are real and that one landed in our backyard.â My sister squealed beside me.
âShut up.â I screamed at her.
She was shocked by my outburst, normally she would yell back, but she was trying to make up with me since I had caught her a couple of hours ago having sex with my boyfriendâ¦â¦.urgh exâ¦. ex-boyfriend.
âThey canât do this, I mean this is our land, they have to ask our permission before trespass on our land.â I yelled angrily, a couple of soldiers walking close by carrying rifles turned to look at me, they didnât say anything, they just shrugged and continued with where they were going.
âExcuse me ladies.â A male voice came from behind us.
My sister and I turned, we saw seven men in black suits, the one talking to us was a middle aged man, he had dirty blond hair and a muscular body, which suggested he could handle himself if the need be, it only frightened me, Angel (my mysterious alien) couldnât take him down especially in his condition.
âMy name is Steven Cruz; we would like to talk to you.â He spoke softly eyeballing me.
It made me nervous, it was like he was staring at my soul and could read my mind, I fidgeted nervously, there was no way he could know I was hiding an alien in our storage room that was ridiculous.
âAbout the alien that crushed into our backyard.â My sister burst out excitedly.
I nearly stepped on her foot but restrained myself because of the black suits before us.
âCan we come in.â the man who had introduced himself as Steven Cruz asked.
âWait a minute first of all you have to show us your badges and explained to us whyâ¦.â I waved my hands at the soldiers running about. âAll these men are on our land without our permission.â
âReese.â My sister hissed at me. I turned around and gave her a look that said shut-up-or-I-will-make-you-shut-up-bitch.
âMiss Dance this is a matter of national security which is why we have trespassed without prior warning but I do have a warrant and if you allow us to come in we will explain everything to you.â He explained.
âSure come in.â my sister invited them in.
I on the other hand hesitated, taking one last look at the storage room, god please donât let them find him I begged, then I followed them inside, they settled in our living room like they owned the place.
âCoffeeâ¦.tea.â my sister asked the men.
I rolled my eyes all I wanted was for them to be far away from this place as possible, three of them shook their head but Steven and three others accepted the offer, my sister went to the kitchen and seconds later I heard spoons and mugs clicking together loudly.
âMiss dance.â Steven Cruz spoke.
âYes.â I answered watching him watching me in an unnerving way.
âFirst of all whatever that landed in your backyard, we are not sure itâs an alien or anything extraterrestrial like the media are saying, what we know for sure is three hours ago something traveling with the speed of light crashed in this area and its our duty to investigate.â
âMmmm.â I mumbled not sure what I was supposed to say, butterflies were dancing in my stomach, I couldnât sit still because I was very aware that one wrong move and I could get Angel (mysterious alien) in trouble.
âHere you go.â My sister said carrying a tray full of hot brewing coffee. She handed them out to the four men and then sat down looking at them expectantly.
âSo about the alien.â She said beaming at them.
Steven cleared his throat before he continued, âI was telling your sister that we arenât sure what exactly crashed into your backyard yet, but what weâve established so far is we saw one set of human footsteps approaching the hole and then later on two footsteps climbing out of the hole.â Steven explained.
I on the other frowned, âBut how is that possible? Shouldnât the rain have washed away the footsteps.â I asked, was he playing with me to try and to get me admit to something.
âNormally the rain would have washed away traces like this, but they made deep imprints on the ground which was why we knew, is there something you want to tell me Miss Dance.â Steven asked.
I think we both knew I was hiding something, but he couldnât possibly know I was hiding the thing he was looking for in my storage room. âNo nothing.â I replied looking away from his penetrating gaze.
âMiss Dance if you know something you need to tell us, this is a serious matter and any information you possess could help us stop a possible threat.â
âMr. Cruz I donât know anything if I did I would tell you.â I lied. He looked at me again but said nothing for a while.
âWell for the mean time the woods is off limits until we discover exactly what landed in there and also we are going to place fifty soldiers around this place in case something unexpected happens.â Steven added.
I gasped; he was leaving his men behind? âWait you canât do that without our permission.â I protested a little too loudly.
âSomeone is talking to your father as we speak and Iâm sure he wonât have a problem besides we want to keep the press out of this area, because I can assure before nighttime they will be swarming this place and then you would thank me.â Steven said.
Maybe he was right, sure the soldiers being around was not an ideal thing, but I didnât want nosy reporters snooping around our house, who knows, they could stumble on Angel(mysterious alien) and that would be worse than the soldiers getting hold of him.
âThis is so exciting.â My sister burst out behind us. âWait till I tell my friends about this they are so going to envy us.â
âEr miss dance you canât tell anyone we want to keep this as quite as possible.â Steven explained.
My sistersâ face fell and I rolled my eyes, âbutâ¦.â She started to complain but was cut off.
âAs a matter of fact Iâm afraid none of you can set foot out of this house until we conclude our investigations and find what exactly landed in your woods.â
My sister and I gasped, âAre you saying we are under house arrest or something.â I asked.
âItâs for your own good, the minute you step out this house and people see you, they are going to bombard you with questions so please stay in this house.â Steven added.
This was not good, I was planning on getting Angel into my dadâs truck and driving him out of here so I could take him to a better hiding place but now it would be impossible, he was stuck here with hundred of soldiers who were looking for him.
Four hours later
Steven kept his promise, he had left fifty men behind, I could see them going up and down carrying black suitcases into the forest from the window I had been watching them for the past four hours.
I was beginning to get worried I hadnât checked on Angel for the past four hours, his wounds needed to be cleaned and I needed to feed him before his condition got worse.
âReese can you help me with dinner.â My mom asked me from the kitchen.
âEr sure but I need to pick something from outside.âI replied and then walked away, when I swung the front door open I didnât see any of Steven Cruz men anywhere so I assumed it was safe, a few steps away from the storage room I heard Angel screaming.
My heart began to throb loudly, what the hell was he doing, if any of the soldiers had been around they would have heard him, I quickened my pace and run towards the storage room, the minute I opened it I saw blood.
There was so much it was impossible not to be shocked, Angel was thrashing about as if a hundred invincible men were holding him down and he wanted to get away. I went closer to him and tried to calm him down but he wouldnât stop yelling.
After two minutes of trying to calm him down and failing, I realized I needed to sedate him, why I hadnât thought of that in the first place, I asked myself.
After I had sedated him, I noticed he had ripped open the stitches in his back which was why blood was pouring from his back and worse of all he had a fever, his eyes were red and puffy and he was burning up.
What he needed was a doctor or he would die but I couldnât take him to the hospital not unless I wanted him to spend the rest of his life as a lab rat.
The sheets were soaked in blood, I needed to change those but before that I needed to move him to a better place, since I couldnât take him outside I would have to hide him in this room somewhere, I stared at the boxes piled up to the ceiling nervously.
It was sheer dumb luck that I noticed a spot behind the boxes packed, I realized I could clear some of the boxes and hide him behind them, no one would notice unless he had another fit and started yelling again.
I spent the next two hours cleaning his wounds, stitching him up and doing my best to reduce his body temperature.
Satisfied I sat back; this boy was going to be the death of me I mused as I stared at him.
âHe needs clothes.âI said out loud, if I didnât get him clothes I might end up raping him, god I had never met anyone so sexy, not even my cheating ex. Before I went out I tried to wash out the blood stains in my clothes and hid the blood stained sheets.
I was almost at the door of the storage room when it swung open; my heart dropped to my stomach as I stared into the face of Steven Cruz, behind him were his seven accomplices which I prefer to call thugs.
âReese your mom asked us to help find you, apparently you had disappeared for hours now.â He said. All while speaking he was looking behind me.
Oh god did I hide him well? Please donât let them find me, this Steven Cruz guy maybe nice to me but I could tell he was a brute and whoever got in his way wouldnât get away without bleeding.
âWhy are you covered in blood?â He asked now examining me.
I choked when he said this, I looked down and realized my shirt and jeans had traces of blood. âI â I w-was helping an injured animal.â I stammered.
âWhat sort of animal.â he asked and then walked into the room looking about wildly.
âA rabbit.â I blurted out, he was standing exactly where Angel was, the only thing preventing him from seeing him was the boxes, all Angel had to do was sneeze and they would catch him. Steven inspected the room for five minutes but he didnât see anything and luckily for me Angel was still heavily sedated.
âIâll be watching you Reese.â Steven hissed at me and then walked out with his thugs.
After they were gone I let out a strong sigh and sank to the floor, what was I doing, why was I helping someone that I barely knew, he could be dangerous for all I know.
âShould I turn him over to Steven and his thugs?â
I gathered myself room the floor and went back to the cabin, I needed to make a decision whether I was going to keep protecting him or I was going to give up him before I landed myself into some serious shit.
