A/N I think Iâve lost my writing mojo, but I donât want to put this story on hold because that would be cruel, so if this chapter sucks Iâm really sorry L
Chapter 8 â A Safe Haven
I let out another blood curling scream as Stevenâs blade sank into my flesh and blood oozed out.
âPl-please st-stop.â I sobbed as pain zinged down my body. âPlease stop.â
âAre you to tell me what I want to know?â Steven asked in a cruel voice.
âI donât know anything about any alien.â I lied, even though I was in so much pain I couldnât betray rogue, if I did I knew they would do far more horrible things than they were doing to me now.
He cocked his head to one side and drove the small blade into my stomach again for the millionth time. As I screamed he grinned and taunted me with his words.
âIt doesnât seem to be working.â One of the men standing over Steven shoulder said.
âYes I agree we need to move this to the next level.â Steven decided dropping the knife.
The next level? âListen hereâ¦â¦â I started to say but right then the van shook violently as if another car had crushed into it and I was thrown forward towards Steven.
Shocked by the vans sudden movement I laid down quietly unmoving, wondering whether there was an earthquake going on or something, it didnât stop the van continued to vibrate and shake aggressively, I tried to hold on to something to stop my body from been tossed around in the van.
âWhat the hell.â Steven swore, he tried to reach across the room towards the door to see what the hell was happening outside, but one violent jerk sent him flying across the room, his head hit the van and he fell down unconscious.
Blood began to drip down Stevenâs face, as his body laid there unmoving, âI hope heâs dead.â I whispered to myself so quietly that no one would hear me.
âSee if heâs ok.â One of Stevenâs thugs commanded, but right then something peculiar happened, all four of Stevenâs thugs they seemed to lose their balance, they were all being tossed around the room except me, I was still lying on the ground safe, one by one I watched as they fell on the ground unconscious after being thrown against the van.
Stunned at the scene before me, I didnât realize I was free and I could escape. I just watched the bloodied bodies puzzled, wondering why I wasnât been tossed around.
âAre going to lay there or are you coming out.â Rogueâs voice came.
I jerked up startled, âRogue?â I called looking around wildly.
âIâm here.â He replied and seconds later the door of the van slid open and he was standing before me looking very distraught, his eyes drifted from my face to my stomach where I had several cuts.
âIâm sorry.â He spoke softly; I could see he was really enraged at what they had done to me.
âItâs ok.â I said trying to calm him down, because I couldnât stand to see him sad.
âItâs not ok.â He yelled. âThey should pay for what they did.â He added coldly staring at the five unconscious men lying in the van.
âNo leave them alone.â I said, remembering that he had killed Doctor Davies a few hours ago and maybe if I didnât stop him he might kill Steven and his thugs. And Even though I hated Steven killing people was wrong and I wouldnât let him do that.
âwhy.â He asked me in a bitter voice. âWhy should I leave them alone? Look at what they did to you.â He said waving his hands at me bloody stomach.
Before I could answer, I heard the distance sounds of several police cars approaching, âI think we have to go.â I said to him, I braced myself to stand up, I knew it would hurt but I was hoping I could deal with the pain. The minute I stood up, pain shot through my stomach and I let out a howl, Rogue rushed forward to stop me from toppling over and falling on my face.
âIâm ok.â I told him as I sensed the anger building in him again. He gave me a look that said he didnât believe me. Rogue wrapped his arms around my waist and helped me climbed out of the van, all while doing this I could hear the sirens getting closer and closer.
âRogue we have to leave before the cops get here.â I told him through my teeth because each step I took it felt like Steven was stabbing me all over again.
âJust hang on to me tightly; I donât want you to fall when it happens.â
âWhyâ¦â¦what are you going to do?â I asked him frowning, was he planning on killing the cops, if so he and I needed to have a serious talk, he needed to understand that taking a human life was wrong.
âJust hang on to me tightly.â He hissed at me, I was probably making him mad with all my questions.
I did what he asked by wrapping my arms around him, at the same time I noticed we were no longer in the hospital but at the mouth of forest which I didnât recognize, Steven must have moved us from the hospital whiles he had been torturing me.
I turned to Rogue to tell him I didnât know where we were but his eyes was closed, he seemed to be concentrating on something, the sirens of the police car got closer and closer whiles we stood there unmoving.
âROGUE.â I yelled at him, what the hell was he doing, if we didnât take cover in the forest we would be caught with our pants down hypothetically.
He didnât respond but his eyes opened and they were no longer green, but black, I froze and stared at him utterly bewildered, he raised his head and looked into the heavens and instantly the clouds changed from white to black, if I didnât know better I would say it was about to rain.
He started muttering some strange words under his breath that I didnât understand, and as if on cue thunder cracked loudly in the sky over and over and the wind around us got aggressive and I clung on to him frightened, whatever that was happening I knew it was way beyond my understanding.
As the clouds got darker, thunder roared continuously and loudly and then it started to rain, it came slowly at first but then it came down harder, so hard that each drop against my skin felt like someone was slapping my skin, I had to shut my eyes because I could no longer open them without the rain entering into it.
âRogue?â I called in a frightened voice.
âItâs ok.â He whispered against my ears and scooped me into his arms, I tried to open my eyes but quickly shut it as rain splattered down my face, I sighed and laid my head against his chest.
âYou have a lot of explanation to do.â I told him.
âThey canât find us in this rain.â He said as if he had not heard my question.
He can move things around and now I think he can make it rain, what was he and what else could he do I wondered.
************
âWake up.â Rogueâs voice came.
âWhat.â I replied, opening my eyes and found Rogue staring down at me. I tried to sit up but stopped halfway when I was reminded that I was hurt. âDamn it.â I swore and I laid back.
âYes well I donât think you should sit upâ¦.clothes thatâs what I forgot.â Rogue said and went off in the other direction and disappeared into the row of shelves.
Shelves? That was odd, I looked around and realized we were in a shop; right behind me was small jars with different flavors of jam. âRogue?.....what are we doing in a store.â I questioned him baffled.
âYou need clothes and food.â He yelled back.
A thought came into mind and I shook it off, surely Rogue wouldnât be that stupid, âDidnât the shop attendant find it unusual that you were carrying an injured woman who looks like a soaked homeless drowning cat.â I asked.
âI wasnât carrying a cat Reese, I was holding you.â He replied.
âNo I meantâ¦never mind, didnât they find it suspicious that I was hurt and unconscious.â
âI didnât see anyoneâ¦which was the whole point.â He replied coming into view carrying several items in his hands, the first thing I noticed was a wig; he dumped them in front of me and sat down.
âRogue please tell you didnât break into this store.â
He grinned at me, âYep I didâ¦â¦now take of your clothes.â
âw-what.â I asked shying away from him.
âIf I donât stitch you up youâll bleed to death or get an infection.â He scolded me.
I blushed, the thought of been naked in front of Rogue was unnerving, it made me shiver as naughty thoughts came into mind. âBut itâs only my stomach thatâs injured, why do I need to take off my clothes.â I argued.
âBecause youâre completely soaked in blood and rain, you must be freezing and you canât possibly wear the same clothes after I stitch you up.â He said.
âFine Iâll take my shirt off and take off the rest later.â I told him still blushing.
He stopped fidgeting with the stuff he had dumped in front of me and stared at me, âDo you think Iâm going to take advantage of you whiles youâre naked.â He asked with a frown. âDo you not trust me Reese?â
Oh great now Iâve offended him, âno I just am a little shyâ¦you know been naked in front of a boy.â I tried to explain.
âReese I am not going to stand there and watch whiles you strip like some pervert.â He said laughing, I smiled at him. âUnless you want me to.â He added with a sheepish grin.
I couldnât help but grin, âhey I donât know you that well.â I said pretending to be offended.
Ten minutes later I was all stitched up; I had changed my clothes.
âI think Iâm allergic to wigs.â I said fidgeting with the blonde wig that now rested on my head, hiding my red hair from view.
âYouâll get used to it.â Rogue said absentmindedly over my shoulders, he was busy shoving food items into a bag pack he had found. âWe need to disappear for a while; they must be looking for you now.â He mumbled.
âWe can go back to my parentâs cabin; they wouldnât think to look for us there because only an idiot would go back.â I said.
He stopped packing and turned to me, âReese you canât go back to the cabin and you canât see your parents ever again.â He said softly.
âWhatâ¦..why?â I asked stunned.
âBecause they think you know something and youâve made it worse by escaping their custody with me. If you think they arenât going to turn the world upside down looking for you, you are very mistaken, if you go back and theyâll find you, this time they will kill you.â
âb-but my d-dad can k-keep us safe.â I stammered, but I knew he was right, if Steven found me again, this time he wouldnât just poke me with his knife, he would cut me up into pieces.
âYou canât go back, if you do youâll put your family in danger, you have to stay with Me.â Rogue explained. Trying make me see reason.
The thought of not seeing my parents again even my annoying backstabbing sister was unbearable it was as if someone had ripped half of my heart out. My mom would be beside herself with grief if I didnât show up, âCan I at least call them and let them know I will be ok.â I asked Rogue.
âMaybe in a couple of days but right now itâs too dangerous, that man and his men must be monitoring all phone calls going in and out of the house.â Rogue explained.
âOkâ¦.so where do we go from here.â I asked.
âSomewhere safeâ¦â¦a safe heaven.â He replied.
Somewhere Unknown
âDonât worry weâll track him down.â A girl said to the group of men who looked very distraught and angry.
âYou have to, Doctor Davies was one of our delivery agents, with him dead we canât release the virus in the hospital like we planned to.â One of the men answered furiously.
âI understand Ryan, like I said Iâll track Rogue down and kill him like you want, but we have to move carefully because heâs very smart and very powerful, one wrong move from us and he could kill us all.â
âI donât care if heâs Zeus himself, we are running out of money young lady, do you know how much money we have spent manufacturing that flu virus, everyday that goes by we lose millions of dollars and if we want to get it all back and more we have to make sure hundreds Or thousands of people get infected otherwise we are screwed.â One man who had been sitting there silent spat at the girl.
âI understand sir and please donât worry Rogue is a good as dead, and after we kill him you can release the virus and no one will stop you.â The girl answered.
âJust get rid of him soon and that girl they say heâs with, before those FBI agents find them and they tell them what weâre up to.â
âWe found them.â A boy who had just walked into the room announced.
âGood now go and kill them.â The man commanded.
To be continuedâ¦â¦
Yikes who are those people and what are they up to, will Rogue and Reese survive their attack, find out in the next chapter. And does this chapter suck?
