As the U-Haul rumbled into the driveway, the boys tumbled out, still stuffed from their challenge at the diner. The sky had turned a dusky orange, and the cool evening breeze felt refreshing after the intense meal.

Mrs. Faulkner stretched her arms. “Alright, boys. We’ll keep the truck overnight, and I’ll get some people to help move everything in tomorrow. For now, you two go play and relax.”

Jake and Alex didn’t need to be told twice. They hurried inside, eager to unwind.

Inside Jake’s room, Alex flopped onto the bed with a groan. “Dude, I don’t think I can move.”

Jake chuckled, patting his own stomach. “Yeah, I feel like I need a week to recover.”

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. The boys exchanged a curious glance. “You expecting anyone?” Alex asked.

Jake shook his head. “Nope.”

They ran downstairs, and Mrs. Faulkner opened the door.

Standing outside were their friends, Tyler, Brandon, and Ethan, holding bags of snacks and games.

“Surprise!” Tyler grinned. “Your mom told us you guys were home, and we figured you could use a game night.”

Alex’s eyes lit up. “You guys are awesome!”

Mrs. Faulkner chuckled. “I figured after the week you two had, a little fun wouldn’t hurt.”

The boys rushed upstairs, setting up video games, passing around snacks (though Jake and Alex politely declined after their earlier feast), and diving into friendly competition.

Later That Night

As the clock neared midnight, the boys were winding down, laughing about old stories and upcoming plans.

Then, Mrs. Faulkner knocked on the door. “Alright, boys. Time to wrap it up.”

Tyler stretched. “Yeah, we should probably head out.”

Before they left, Brandon turned to Alex. “So, how’s it feel? New home, new setup?”

Alex hesitated, glancing around Jake’s room—now their room, at least for now. A small smile crept onto his face. “Honestly? It’s weird… but good. It helps knowing I’ve got all of you.”

Jake threw an arm around him. “Well, get used to it, bro. You’re stuck with us.”

As their friends left, Alex lay back, staring at the ceiling.

Jake turned off the lights. “Tomorrow’s a big day.”

“Yeah,” Alex murmured. “A new start.”

And with that, they drifted off to sleep, ready for whatever came next.

As the front door shut behind their friends, Mrs. Faulkner turned to the boys. “Alright, I’ll take the others home. Jake, Alex—I expect you both to be ready for bed by the time I get back.”

Jake groaned playfully. “Aw, come on, Mom. Just a little longer?”

She gave him a knowing look. “Nope. You’ve had a long day, and tomorrow’s going to be even busier.”

Alex sighed but nodded. “Alright, we’ll get ready.”

Mrs. Faulkner smiled. “Good. I won’t be long.” She grabbed her keys and headed out, leaving the boys alone.

Jake stretched. “Well, you heard her. Let’s get to it.”

They headed upstairs, both still feeling the weight of their food challenge earlier. Alex flopped onto the bed, rubbing his stomach. “Man, I’m still full.”

Jake chuckled. “Same. But we should probably at least get changed before she gets back.”

Reluctantly, they got up and started getting ready for bed, knowing that tomorrow would be a whole new adventure.

After heading upstairs, Jake and Alex grabbed fresh clothes and went to the bathroom to shower. The warm water felt nice after such a long day, washing away the exhaustion from moving and the lingering discomfort from their massive meal challenge.

Once they were clean, they brushed their teeth, making sure to get every last bit of burger and shake out of their mouths. Jake rinsed and looked at Alex through the mirror. "Think we’ll ever do a food challenge again?"

Alex chuckled. "Maybe… just not anytime soon."

After finishing up, they changed into their pajamas—Jake in his usual soft t-shirt and plaid pants, Alex in a loose hoodie and shorts. Feeling refreshed but still a little sluggish from their full stomachs, they climbed onto Jake’s bed, waiting for his mom to return.

Alex leaned back against the pillows. "It’s weird knowing this is my home now."

Jake nodded. "Yeah, but it’ll be fun. We’ll make it work."

They sat in comfortable silence, the events of the day settling in. Before long, they heard the sound of Mrs. Faulkner’s car pulling into the driveway. Their wait was over.

Mrs. Faulkner walked in, setting her purse down by the door before making her way upstairs. Peeking into Jake’s room, she found the boys sitting on the bed, looking drowsy but ready for bed.

"Alright, boys," she said with a gentle smile. "Let’s get you both checked before lights out."

Jake groaned lightly. "Mom, do we have to?"

Mrs. Faulkner gave him a look. "You know the rules, Jake."

Alex sighed but nodded, getting up first. Mrs. Faulkner guided him over, quickly checking and then changing him into a fresh diaper with practiced efficiency. Once Alex was set, she did the same for Jake, making sure both boys were comfortable.

"Alright, all done." She stood up and pulled the blankets back for them. "Get some sleep—we’ve got a busy day tomorrow moving everything in."

Both boys slid under the covers, already feeling the weight of sleep settling in. Mrs. Faulkner gave them each a quick pat on the head before turning off the light.

"Good night, boys," she said softly.

"Night, Mom," Jake murmured.

"Good night," Alex added, his voice barely above a whisper.

As the door closed, they settled in, the room quiet except for their soft breathing. Tomorrow would be a new day in their new life together.
