The next morning, Jake and Alex woke up feeling the now-familiar squish beneath them. Stretching and groaning, Jake sat up and shook his head.
"Man, another night, another soaked diaper," he muttered.
Alex rubbed his eyes. "Guess weâre both in the same boat again."
Before they could say anything else, their mom walked in, already expecting the morningâs usual routine. "Good morning, boys. Letâs get you both changed and ready for the day. Iâve got something to tell you over breakfast."
After fresh diapers and a change of clothes, the boys headed downstairs, the smell of bacon and pancakes filling the air. Mrs. Faulkner was already setting plates on the table, a thoughtful look on her face.
As they sat down and started eating, she cleared her throat. "Alright, so hereâs the deal. I have some important interviews today."
Jake raised an eyebrow. "Interviews? For what?"
"For a homeschool teacher and a babysitter," she replied. "With everything going on, I want to make sure you boys get a good education at home, and I also need someone to watch you when Iâm busy."
Alex blinked. "A babysitter? Weâre not little kids."
Mrs. Faulkner smiled. "Thatâs what I thought too, but remember a few days ago? And last I checked, big boys donât lie."
Alex sighed. "Oh right."
"And since I donât want you two underfoot while I talk to these people, Iâve already made arrangements."
Jakeâs fork paused midway to his mouth. "Arrangements?"
She grinned. "I called Tylerâs mom. Sheâs taking you boys and Tyler to the amusement park today."
Alexâs face lit up. "No way! For real?"
"For real," she confirmed. "So eat up and get ready. Youâre spending the day riding roller coasters instead of being stuck here listening to boring interviews."
Jake smirked. "Best trade-off ever."
The boys quickly finished their breakfast, excited for the day ahead. Just as they finished, the doorbell rang.
"That must be Tyler and his parents," their mom said. "Go grab your stuff and head out. Have fun, boys!"
The boys rushed to the door, eager to start their adventure. Their mom handed them $250 for souvenirs, games, and food. "Behave yourselves, and remember, Iâll hear about it if you donât."
Tyler and his parents greeted them as they climbed into the car, buzzing with excitement. The amusement park was just a short drive away, and they couldnât wait to see what the day had in store.
Today was going to be a big dayâfor all of them.
After a 45-minute drive filled with chatter about what rides to go on first, they finally arrived at the amusement park. The towering roller coasters and colorful attractions loomed ahead, and the boys could barely contain their excitement.
"Alright, boys," Tylerâs mom said. "Stay together and check in with us every couple of hours. Have fun!"
They wasted no time rushing inside, making a beeline for the biggest roller coaster in the park. The anticipation built as they waited in line, and when it was finally their turn, they climbed into the seats, pulling the harnesses down.
As the ride climbed to the peak, Alex grinned at Jake. "Hope youâre ready to scream!"
Jake laughed. "Bring it on!"
The coaster plummeted down the first drop, and the boys let out excited shouts as they twisted through loops and sharp turns. When they got off, they were breathless and giddy with excitement.
"That was insane!" Tyler exclaimed. "Letâs do it again!"
"Later," Alex said. "Letâs try the arcade next!"
They spent the next few hours bouncing between rides, playing carnival games, and even trying out a haunted house attraction that had Jake and Tyler jumping at every sudden scare while Alex laughed at their reactions.
At lunchtime, they used some of their spending money to grab burgers, fries, and slushies. As they sat at a picnic table, Tyler grinned. "Best day ever."
Jake nodded. "And itâs not over yet. We still have time for more rides."
After lunch, they hit the bumper cars, tested their aim at the shooting gallery, and finished off with one last roller coaster ride as the sun began to set.
As they made their way back to meet Tylerâs parents, they each carried a bag of souvenirsâAlex with a plush dragon, Jake with a light-up sword, and Tyler with a giant stuffed bear he somehow won at the ring toss.
"Man, today was awesome," Alex said as they piled into the car, exhausted but happy.
"Agreed," Jake yawned. "Iâm so ready to crash when we get home."
As the car drove off, heading back home, the boys knew this was a day theyâd never forget.
