I thought that the days I spent riding the dragons would be dreary, but it wasnât. The view of the green prairie and forests looked fascinating. Especially since I had spent all my time in my room at the mansion and the garden.
But why did these men come to the border town when it took three days to get here from Lentforce?
I understood that they were going home from the border town and met me after theyâd stopped for the night as they ran along Walsall Mountain Range.
âWe went to sell magic stones,â Mill told me. Mill and I didnât tell each other what we wanted to, but I gained a lot of information from him because he was talkative. Hollows donât come out during the day, so I thought it would be boring.
âItâs nice to have someone to talk to.â
âAi.â
He lined up his Rug Dragon with mine and talked about whatever he could think of. Apparently, it was better if I give some kind of reply. So, what happened to Alistair who had picked me up?
He was following Bart who was at the front. While looking in Bartâs direction, he rode without saying anything and learned about things he should be careful of while on the move and to look for landmarks on the mountains. Kyaro and Clyde were also keeping their ranks while staying vigilant of our back and sides; they werenât letting their guard down at all.
âMiww, Awishthair, oway?â I wanted to ask Mill if it was alright for him not to act like Alistair.
âOh, Alistair? Heâs a good guy. His mum, Nora, passed away and heâs been on his own since last year, but he works hard and supports himself.â
I wasnât asking about something so heavy.
âMiww, guard oway?â I wonder if heâll get it with this.
âGuard? The others are doing it, so I donât have to.â
He understood me, but heâs a bit disappointing.
âWe usually only go to the north and south of Lentforce, so itâs exciting to go this far.â
âI shee.â
But this excitement put your life in danger yesterday, you know?
âWe finally got a barrier box, so we got reckless and camped along the mountain range. That was really dangerous. Haha.â
âIthâsh noth funny.â
Alistair glanced at us as Mill chuckled happily.
âBut we usually stay in inns. At least, thatâs what we did until we got to the border town, Kaylie.â
âReawwy? Howwow donâth appear in thown?â
Donât they appear anywhere at night?
âThe entrances and windows in town are lined with Rhodolite which the Hollows hate. Hollows show up in town, but they donât really go into houses.â
âI shee.â
I nodded with a serious look on my face and Mill grinned in satisfaction. Isnât it lunch soon? Bartâs dragon started slowing down.
âOi, Isnât it a bit too early for lunch? Whatâs wrong?â When the dragons stopped completely, Mill got off his dragon and said.
âI told you this morning, didnât I? Weâre going to split into two groups here, and Kyaro and Clyde are going to go to town. The four of us will wait outside of town. You even said that we can take it easy today because weâre getting food from town.â
âOh yeah, I did.â
Mill scratched his head as if heâd forgotten this. In the meantime, Alistair quickly opened my basket, removed the band and carried me off the dragon.
âWe were running for a long time, are you alright?â
âAi.â
Then, he carefully patted my body from head to toe.
âWhath?â
âNothing, I was just seeing if you can move properly.â
âChu canâth theww thhath by paththing me.â
âO-oh.â
I walked briskly and waved my hands. Bart nodded when he saw me do this.
âYou can totter. Looks like youâre ok.â
I glared at Bart.
âWh-what?â
âIâm noth thoththering.â
âYeah, yeah. Briskly. Youâre walking briskly.â
âAi.â
Thatâs fine. Alistair pressed his lips together and trembled. What is he holding back?
âYou can waugh.â
âKu, haha. Chibi, youâre not childish at all. Itâs so funny.â
âIthâsh Lei.â
âJ-just like that. Le-lei. Haha.â
Good grief! I folded my arms, but it was only me putting my arms across my chest.
âPfft.â
Yes, yes, go ahead and laugh.
âA-anyway, you, Lei, weâll need to buy you some clothes.â
âWothsh.â
When the laughter subsided, Kyaro spoke. I wondered if I would have nothing else to wear for another week. I had a fever and got really sweaty, so my clothes were filthy.
âWhat should I buy?â
âThhath Wyaro.â
I sighed. Was this something you asked a one-year-old?
âKyaro, Leiâs probably just over a year old right?â
Alistair turned around to look at me as if he was looking for confirmation. I nodded. He confirmed this with me as if it was the most natural thing to do, but babies usually donât know how old they are.
âI want you to buy clothes that are a bit bigger. She has a coat, so buy two of everything else. If possible, buy used clothes.â
âOh, alright. Also, does she need a rattle?â
A rattle! Youâre asking this now?!
âNah, Lei probably doesnât need one. Sheâll probably want a book instead...... Book?â
I made a face that said, âBooks are good,â but it seemed that Alistair was joking and he looked mixed.
âWell, real nobles might just be like Lei. Our common senses are different. Iâm sure of it,â he grumbled, but thatâs probably a misunderstanding.
âBuy some food that are easy to eat. I have a feeling that sheâs a glutton.â
âAlright.â
âAlso-,â
Bart spoke over Alistair, âItâs fine. Donât let people know that we have a baby with us. Make it seem like weâre buying a gift for a relative.â
âI said alright. Iâm not Mill,â Kyaro replied, then he and Clyde rode their dragons and ran towards the town in the distance.
âNow then, we should rest a bit.â
Bart stretched. But, this isnât the time to be stretching. Well, I guess he can stretch.
âAwishthair.â
âWhat is it, Lei?â Although he replied, he walked off, picked up something and came back.
âLei, here.â
âWhath?â
Alistair had pulled out some thick grass stalks, teared it to the length of his palm and blew on it, âPuff.â
âWoaaah.â
âPuff, puff.â
âThhereâsh a shound.â
âItâs interesting, right?â
Then, he gave me the stalk. I blew on it. *PUFF* Thereâs no sound.
âTry harder.â
âAi.â
I breathed in.
â*PUFF*â
It sang!
âSee!? Itâs interesting, right?â
âAi!â
No, no, whatever. I carefully put the stalk into my poncho pocket.
âWhatâs wrong? I can make it for you again, so you donât need to put it away.â
Iâm happy for his kindness, but itâs not that.
âAwishthair. Magic practhice.â
âMagic? Practice?â
âAi.â
Alistair has to train his magic. He has the same power as brother, and he has to use it then he needs to cherish his life. This is non-negotiable.
