Elara
âLittle Zuzu,â her voice is as arrogant as ever. I hated it when she called me that. That was why I snapped when Elara called me Zuzu. However, I felt warmth run through my body when it comes Eloiseâs mouth. I want her to call me again.
âI miss you,â I confess. I didnât realize just how much I missed her.
âDadâs dead,â she says nonchalantly. Iâm stunned for a moment by her words.
âHow?â
âKilled by our uncle Reuben a few months ago,â Eloise sounds casual about it.
âHow are you?â I ask.
âDonât act like you care about me. I want to warn you about Reuben. He wants the throne but canât get it because the council wonât allow him, knowing you are alive,â her words unsettle me.
âI donât want want the crown. You take it,â I tell her. She scoffs,
âThey wonât let me because Iâm a woman.â
âThen fight for it. Youâre the firstborn, and itâs the 21st century,â If anyone could make a good leader for the empire, it was my sister. She has always been fierce and a great warrior, âOr let Uncle sit on me,â I give her another option.
âUncle canât sit on it. The bastard is far greedier than our father. He will continue raising havoc. He wants all the dragon empires under him, just like the old man did,â
I sigh. What was with that family and power? They are sick in the head.
âWhat can I do to help?â
âYou need to abdicate the throne and appoint me as Queen. Then you can go to your merry little life,â she snaps.
âYou said they found me,â I tell her.
âI intercepted the spyâs message before it could reach Reuben. However, there is a lurker for you. So, kill him. You can do that or have become weak with the wolves. Youâre pathetic,â I can picture her rolling her big violet eyes. I canât help but smile. It had been too long since I smiled.
âI have the guy,â I inform her, looking at my computer.
âAnd Reuben?â I ask.
âIâll call you when I need you to come here. I should gather allies before the general council meeting in a few months,â she tells me. In the next few months, I will abdicate my position and leave the empire behind me for good.
âThank you, Eloise,â
âStay alive,â Thatâs all she says and ends the call. I feel like a heavy burden has been lifted off my chest.
Nevertheless, Iâm in more danger from my uncle now. He will want to kill me before the general council meeting.
Hopefully, this was the only man who knew of my whereabouts.
I was happy the rest of the day. I couldnât wait to get home and see my husband.
Lou was already waiting for me in the parking lot when my classes ended. I smiled at him as I got in the car.
âGood evening, Mrs Crawford,â
There⦠He did it again. There is something about being called Mrs Crawford that sends warmth to my body.
âGood evening, Lou,â
I notice that as we drive. We donât go to the penthouse. I narrow my gaze. Iâm not too familiar with this area of the pack.
âLou, where are we going?â I ask.
âThe boss asked me to take you to his location for your date night,â he answers. My heart almost leaps from my chest. Date night! Zuriel granted my request!
âDate? I need to change my clothes, Lou,â
The butler only nods and does a U-turn abruptly. A yelp almost leaves my lips.
âLou!â
âIâm sorry, my lady. Iâll take you home to change into new clothes,â he says.
âI hope Zuriel doesnât get mad at us, especially you for not following his orders,â
âYou are my boss, too,â he informs me with a polite smile.
Lou drives fast to the penthouse building. I get out of the car and rush to the apartment. When I enter, River is there, pressing on her phone, but I donât acknowledge her.
âMiel!â I call softly, and the girl comes rushing from the kitchen. I smile.
âCan you help me get ready?â I ask. She looks eager to know where Iâm going but doesnât ask.
âIâm going on a date with my husband,â I tell her. An ear-splitting grin forms on her face.
âYes, Iâll help you,â she squeals.
âHello!â River comes over to us. I donât smile at her.
âYou and my boyfriend are going on a date?â she looks sad. However, Iâm not falling for her trick. Zuriel can, but not me.
I snort and cross my arms against my chest, âHe is not your boyfriend, letâs start there,â
She takes a step back, like a scared little cat. Tears dance in her eyes,
âZuriel is my husband. We were wed in the eyes of everyone. And yes, we are going out on a date. He asked me out on a date,â
I did lie on that last part, but who cares? River glares at me, her eyes flashing red with anger. Red?
