ADRIANA.
An alpha mate at that.
â
to be mear him but i canât give her that, My heart thrums as i try to make sense of the hurricane inside of me, feeling the agitated pull of my wolf which scares me, she wants him when heâs running from that. 1 But Iâm just not good enough for him, that is obvious, but I donât really care. Iâm good enough for myself. (1)
I smile bitterly as I grab my right sleeve and tear it off, looking at my arm.
Scars are only a reminder of a story that is worthy of being told to future generations.
Iâm Adriana Hidalgo, Iâm not going to sit here and wallow. 1 Even if itâs hard to pretend to be ok.
I get up and walk to the window, scanning the grounds of the large mansion, gazing down as my heart skips a beat. I stare at the man who is running his fingers through his hair, clearly, he didnât have a call to makeâ¦
He tenses and I see him turn sharply towards my window. Itâs dark in here, but even if he can see me, I donât care. I slowly back away from the window, not knowing what to do.
Itâs a while later and thereâs a knock on the door and I look up. Iâve already changed and Iâm pacing the room, a thousand emotions coursing through me.
âHey, I brought dinnerâ¦â Valerie trails off as her eyes fall on the torn dress that I had tossed on the bed, a flicker of confusion in her eyes.
âIâm sorry, did the dress- I mean I didnât buy it for that reason, I just â Iâm sorry. I didnât mean you need to cover them. It was mo-â
âHey, relax.â I look at my arms, âNo worries, Iâm not offended. I donât know why I did that. So, how are things going, what is our next step?â
She sits down, placing the tray down, and I know Iâve successfully shifted her attention from the dress when she sighs.
âWell, thereâs a plan in place, but itâs not going to be easyâ¦â
She begins telling me about the details of the meeting and the plans they have. I nod slowly.
âI seeâ¦â
âEat! Itâs getting cold. Iâm sorry you couldnât join us today,â she says, smiling apologetically.
I pick up my fork and shake my head, âOh no, itâs fine. I wasnât up to it. So, this is your brotherâs pack. I havenât met him yet, does he have a luna?â I ask nonchalantly, biting into a potato.
âNoâ¦â she says, forcing a smile.
Iâm not one to pry but thereâs a story thereâ¦
âBut?â
âNo buts.â She smiles and I raise an eyebrow, feigning playful curiosity.
âThereâs something there,â I say, smiling at her as I drink my juice.
She looks down. âHe⦠once was in love with someone and I donât think heâs ready yet to settle down, although I wish he did. He isnât getting any younger!â
Itâs a conversation she doesnât want to go into, and I donât think I want to know either. Somehow it stings, and it really shouldnât, I donât even know him.
âI see⦠Umm, Valerie?â
âYeah?â
âI know things are going to go down soon and I want to be out there helping with the mission. Think you could look after Ada?â
âOf course, sheâs our pack member. But I donât think anyoneâs going to send you into the midst of danger. We will have a plan weâll work on together.â
I nod. âWell then, Iâm leaving tonight. Iâll stay with Anthony and Damien until Iâm needed.â
Her face falls. âYou heard the conversation,â she states quietly.
1 Sheâs smart, thatâs for sure.
âMaybe a little, but itâs no big deal. I donât feel comfortable here anyway.â I shrug, gulping down my juice. 2 Sheâs silent before she looks towards the door. âWhat are Zadeâs thoughts on you leaving?â
âDo you really think heâll stop me?â I cock a brow, we both know Zade enough to know he doesnât force people, anyone, to stay.
