Chapter 40: 040 I like everything you do, does she have him in her heart? Chapter 40: 040 I like everything you do, does she have him in her heart? The next morning,
as the old master went out early in the morning to walk his bird, he happened to run into Jiang Jinsang coming out from the East Courtyard.
âGrandpa Tang,â Jiang Jinsang had spent the previous night with Tang Wanâs gentle âIs that okay?â ringing in his mind and hadnât slept well.
Hua Mei, seeing Jiang Jinsang, called out even louder.
The two then walked together to the front hall.
Tang Wan had slept all afternoon yesterday and had a good nightâs sleep as well; she got up just after five and, from the corner of her eye, saw the two men enter the house, âHurry up and sit down, itâs just in time for breakfast.â
The old master, all the while observing Jiang Jinsang, asked, âYou donât look very spirited. Did you not sleep well last night? Or are you feeling unwell?â
âNo, it was just that I went to bed late yesterday.â How could he admit he couldnât sleep because of Tang Wan?
The old master chuckled softly while feeding the birds, âDid Wanwan disturb your rest yesterday?â
âGrandpaââ Tang Wan frowned.
âWhat? You didnât go see him yesterday?â the old man teased.
âI went for a little whileâ¦â It didnât add up to even fifteen minutes.
The old masterâs smile grew deeper and more inscrutable, looking as if he understood everything; Tang Wan couldnât argue with him, âYouâve fed the bird, now hurry up and wash your hands for breakfast.â
When Jiang Jinsang saw the breakfast, his fingers subconsciously rubbed together.
The breakfast was entirely filled with his favorite dishes, but some were specialties of the north which, although available in Pingjiang, were not typically eaten for breakfast.
He could almost be sure now that there was a mole in their family.
Jiang Jinsang had not slept well the night before, and despite a table full of delicacies, he had no appetite and only sipped a bit of tofu pudding without touching anything else.
Tang Wan slightly frowned. Could it be that the breakfast didnât suit his taste?
At that moment in the Jiang Family,
having just finished breakfast, Mrs. Jiang was looking at a picture on her phone and, catching sight of someone descending the stairs, she called out, âThe picture you fixed for me yesterdayâI sent it out without looking at it carefully. This oneâ¦â
It had things Jiang Jinsang didnât like and many he truly enjoyed.
Mrs. Jiang could compose a text well, but organizing and collating all the information into a pictorial format was not her strength; she had to leave it to someoneâs older brother.
âIs there a problem?â
âI wanted to address his picky eating habits, but youâve listed a bunch of stuff he loves to eat as well.â
âMiss Tang prepares the meals often picking on his dislikes deliberately; do you think he wouldnât guess? Mixing favorite and least favorite items is safer.â
ââ¦â
That made sense, actually.
Meanwhile, Jiang Jinsang had already become suspicious yesterday. If it had been one or two coincidences of Tang Wan accidentally getting things right, it wouldnât matter, but the tea with broken silver leaves was too much of a coincidence.
On the way back to the courtyard, Jiang Jinsang pondered over who could have leaked his likes and dislikes. Thinking it over, the person who could have been in contact with Tang Wan and had such a peculiar sense of humorâ¦
He had a target in mind.
Tang Wan walked back with him, and she too was pondering something, as she had begun to suspect the things Mrs. Jiang gave her.
Initially, when she was told that Jiang Jinsang liked cilantro, she had been puzzled, and the breakfast this morning was clearly something he enjoyed yet he barely touched his food.
Instead of guessing, she decided to ask directly.
Just as they entered the courtyard and Jiang Jinsang was about to head to his room, Tang Wan stopped him, âFifth Master, was todayâs breakfast not to your liking?â
Jiang Jinsang turned and looked at her, âWhat?â
He had been distracted by his thoughts and hadnât heard her clearly, so he naturally walked a couple of steps toward her, âWhat did you just say?â
Jiang Cuo stood to the side, speechless:
âWhat kind of sassy movement is this!â
They were just talking to you, no one asked you to move closer.
âI just wanted to ask if the breakfast wasnât tasty, I noticed you didnât eat much,â Tang Wan saw the person in front of her getting closer and wanted to step back, but thought better of it and simply stood her ground, letting him approach until he was right in front of her.
The sunrise shone from the east, sunlight falling into the courtyard and just hitting Jiang Jinsangâs face, scattering golden light that made one unconsciously want to keep looking.
âDid you prepare the breakfast?â his voice was gentle, always stirring emotions.
âYes.â
âWhy did you think I would like it?â
Tang Wan was at a loss for words. Out of politeness, she had been looking at him, but now her gaze drifted uncertainly to a flowerpot nearby.
In the autumn breeze, the branches were almost bare, with just a few sturdy green leaves at the top.
âLately, itâs been mostly Pingjiang snacks for breakfast, and I was afraid you wouldnât be accustomed to those, so I prepared some northern dishes. But I didnât see you eat much, so I wanted to askâ¦â
Tang Wan definitely wouldnât betray Mrs. Jiang, she only mentioned it was common courtesy for a guest to be well taken care of.
Before she could finish, she heard the man in front of her say in a low voice:
âI like it very much.â
Tang Wanâs gaze became intense, and her breathing deepened.
For a man and a woman, these four words alone always carried a different implication of intimacy, especially since Jiang Jinsangâs gaze was so intense, different from his usual look.
âI just didnât sleep well last night, didnât have much of an appetite, but I really like what you prepared.â he further explained.
Tang Wanâs breathing and heartbeat were somewhat erratic.
She quickly changed the subject, âRight, my grandfather loves to talk nonsense. Donât take his words seriously.â
Tang Wan didnât think that Jiang Jinsangâs poor sleep had anything to do with her; after all, she was only there for over ten minutes and it was already past nine, he hadnât been sleeping.
Jiang Jinsang raised an eyebrow, âWhat exactly did Grandpa Tang say that I shouldnât take seriously?â
Both were clever people, some things were clear to them, yet forcing Tang Wan to spell it out made her struggle with the words, and she simply blurted out, âItâs nothing, I should head back to my room now. You didnât sleep well last night, maybe you should take a nap.â
Almost fleeing, she closed the door with a bang, and only then did Jiang Jinsang slightly curve his lips into a smile and turn to go back inside.
**
He had deliberately asked Tang Wan just now, wanting to confirm whether she had inquired into his preferences.
Jiang Cuo and Jiang Jiu were both smart. As soon as he entered the room, Jiang Cuo hurriedly explained, âSir, we definitely didnât reveal your preferences.â
âI know,â Jiang Jinsang had already guessed who it was.
Jiang Cuo frowned, âThen you not liking cilantro and such, that definitely wouldnât be our doingâ¦â
That would be asking for trouble! They werenât itching for a beating.
To support his own thoughts, he nudged the person next to him, âJiang Jiu, say something, itâs not like it was us anyway.â
The moment Jiang Jiu spoke, Jiang Cuoâs mind was blown.
âNo matter who it was, Miss Tang inquiring about your preferences and preparing food for you ultimately shows she has you on her mind and cares about you.â
Jiang Jinsang raised an eyebrow, signaling him to elaborate.
âIf one doesnât care, they wouldnât bother to look after a stranger.â
âSir, Miss Tang cares about you.â
Jiang Cuo was stunned, his eyes wide as saucers:
Damn, how did I not think of that.
Sly man, at least leave me a few lines to say myself.
