Chapter 121 âWhat? Noah, are you serious? When did this happen, and how come I didnât know about it?â Dylan spluttered.
âOf course, you didnât know; thatâs nothing new,â Noah replied perfunctorily. His eyes never left the surveillance monitor screen.
The little rascal, Colton, had gone into the lift without any mishaps.
There was a large surveillance monitor in the living room, and the HD camera caught every little nuance of young Thomasâs expression for Noah to see.
Thomas had no idea at all that he was currently being monitored in real-time, and was happily sending a message to Madeline on his phone.
Dylan noticed at this point that Noah was observing Coltonâs movements very carefully. At first, he thought that Noah was being overly protective, afraid that the boy would not be able to make it downstairs safely. However, as he continued to watch, he realized that something was amiss.
âNoah, look; isnât Colt holding a phone? When did you get one for him? Just yesterday, I asked him for his Instagram account, and he said he didnât have one!â
Apparently, it wasnât that the little brat didnât have an account; he just didnât want to add Dylan to his friend list. Bah! What a waste, doting on him! Dylanâs expression betrayed his irritation.
âMadeline gave him that phone as a present,â Noah answered curtly.
Dylan felt even more annoyed. Colton was really a little brat and no mistake!
âWhatâs there to get annoyed about? I donât know his Instagram account either.â Noah noticed that Dylan genuinely felt hurt and tried to console him a little. After all, why would anyone need an Instagram account when they had someoneâs phone number? He felt that Dylan was making a mountain out of a molehill.
âEh? Really? Hahaha, then both of us are in the same boat. Alright, you keep an eye on Colt while I go heat up some milk for him. Heâll probably want to have it when he comes back!â Dylan felt a lot better after hearing that. He hurried off to the kitchen to warm up the milk.
Noah paid no further attention to him. He was focused on the monitor screen, watching Thomas. He also noticed that the boy kept typing messages and felt very curious about this. In the end, he switched the camera angle to a closeup of Thomasâs phone screen so he could see what was going on.
It looked as if the boy was on the Instagram messenger page. He also noticed that Thomas had addressed the other party as âMommyâ...
Noahâs heart skipped a bit involuntarily. Colton was messaging Madeline? When had they become acquainted? A memory suddenly flashed into his mind; he recalled that when they were coming down the Hershey Hairpin, Madeline had been talking to Colton.
If he wasnât mistaken, Colton had called her Mommy and Madeline...what had she called him? Thomas?
When had she given Colton that nickname?
Noah looked up at this point and saw a line of text on the phone screen.
Thomas had texted, âMommy, is my lilâ brother awake yet? He knows Iâm his big brother now, right?â
Madeline replied, âYouâre the little brother.â
Thomas sent back, âMommy, what did you say? Lalala, Iâm not listening.â
Thomas and Madeline continued to message back and forth. Noah, however, was utterly confused as he stared at the surveillance screen.
Little brother? Big brother?
Madeline had other children?
No wonder she had said she didnât like Noah anymore. She had fallen in love with someone else; had she conceived another child with them too?
At this point, Noah felt as if his head was about to explode. The old injury from his accident throbbed faintly, making it impossible for him to think clearly.
Dylan, who had been warming up milk for Thomas, realized that something was amiss with Noah and hurriedly helped him to the sofa to rest.
Noah lay down. Dylan noticed that Colton was already at the door and quickly powered off the surveillance camera in the living room, concealing it once more. After all, the young rascal had gone downstairs to message a new acquaintance. If he discovered that his father was spying on him, that would be quite inappropriate.
Thomas walked in right after that. The minute he saw Noah lying on the couch looking rather pale, he ran over as fast as his little legs could carry him, feeling worried.
âDaddy, whatâs wrong?â He tugged anxiously at Noahâs much larger hand.
Oddly enough, the fact that he was one step closer to a vast inheritance now that Noah was ill never even crossed his mind.
âDaddy, youâve got to hurry up and get better. If you do, Iâll let you have all my pocket money!â Thomas ran into Noahâs arms and snuggled his fuzzy little head against Noahâs shoulder in a show of adorable cuteness.
âDonât worry, Colt. Your daddyâs just tired. Heâll be fine after a little rest!â Dylan reassured Thomas after seeing his agitation. He got up and brought the boy a cup of hot chocolate milk, hoping it would ease Coltonâs worry.
He had examined Noah and discovered that it was nothing very serious, just a fainting spell brought on by over- excitement.
âIâll drink it when Daddy wakes up...â Even the sight of his favorite chocolate milk did not tempt Thomas. He intended to remain there with Noah until his daddy woke up.
Thomasâs voice seemed to penetrate through Noahâs foggy brain, and he gradually regained consciousness.
Reaching out, he gently stroked Thomasâs head. âItâs alright, Colt. Daddyâs fine.â
âDaddy, youâre awake!â Thomas perked up the minute he heard Noah speak and looked up at him happily with wide eyes.
âMmhmm. Come on; Iâll sit with you while you drink your milk.â Noah smiled warmly and struggled to sit up. Wrapping an arm around Thomas, he took the mug of milk from Dylan.
âNoah...right now...â The man shouldnât be sitting up yet!
âIâm fine, Dylan,â Noah interrupted.
âAlright, alright. Just stay put here, and Iâll go downstairs to get you some medicine!â Dylan was obviously still worried about Noahâs condition and lingered for a while before finally going down in the lift.
Thomas lay in Noahâs arms, feeling extremely secure and warm.
However, this sense of well-being was abruptly shattered!
âColt, you know that Auntie Madeline is your Mommy, donât you?â
âI...â Noahâs sudden question stunned Thomas. How was he to answer this? Should he say yes or no? Since he had no idea how much Noah knew, he elected to remain silent and use it to his advantage.
âDaddyâs very happy that your Mommy is still alive.â
