Chapter 16 Whoâs The Target?
Madeline sat beside her son and helped groom his soft hair.
Thomasâs downy head of hair was so fluffy!
âUm...â
âThomas, I gave you a tracker. Did you plant it on Noah?â
âHehe, you really are the smartest mom in the world!â Thomas tried to flatter her while drinking his chocolate milk.
âGive me your phone. Now!â
Madelineâs expression suddenly grew severe. She took his cell phone and cut off the signal source of the tracker. Nimble fingers typed in a series of codes until the red button of the tracker restarted with a beep. It was only then that she stopped.
âAre you worried theyâll counterattack me, Ma?â
âYouâre not completely stupid at least. The counterattack is one thing. Whatâs more concerning is that they might track the traces you leave behind. Tell me what would happen if Noah finds both you and his prized son, Colton Quincy, together...?â
âIâll be exposed! Youâre a genius, Mom! But you seem to have connected the tracker elsewhere. Who did you target?â
Thomas gave his mother a look of adoration.
Madeline couldnât help but twitch when she studied his excited expression.
âDamn punk! Now that youâre back, Iâll arrange for a chopper to take you back first thing in the morning. Sleep early tonight...â
Madeline grabbed the child as she spoke.
Of course, Thomas would refuse and avoid her with deft steps. âNo way! I havenât even given the scumbag a hard time yet! I wonât leave! Iâm staying to fight alongside you, Mom!â
He ran circles around the couch while he continued to bargain.
âYouâll be doing me a huge favor if Noah doesnât find you!â Madeline kept chasing after her son to no avail. How can this brat be this hard to catch?!
Thomas watched as his mother chased him, hot on his tail. She wasnât giving up in the slightest and thus could only try his best to persuade her and allowed himself to be caught.
âYouâre too impulsive, Mom! You must have a lot of things to do here. If the scumbag finds out that his precious child is missing, heâs definitely coming after you again.
âItâll affect your career. Even if you wonât consider yourself, you should consider my little brother whoâs still in the hospital! I guarantee that he wonât find out until he gets better!â
The brat clung tightly to her. She wanted to pick him up but he remained stuck like a limpet. There was nothing she could do!
His words also made a great amount of sense.
Noah currently had no idea that she had abducted his son. He came pestering her when something felt off. If he were to find out, it would be difficult to implement her plan.
It was indeed a difficult situation.
âIâm right, arenât I, Mom?â Thomas looked up at Madeline. She was obviously hesitating.
Iâm such a genius!
âAlright, you can stay for a few more days. Be good and take care of yourself. Do you hear me?â
âOkay! I promise I wonât drag you down, Mommy! Uh, do you have a way to send me back before scumbag Dad gets home?â
......
Noahâs vehicle traveled through the heavy rain. They were moving slowly due to the heavy downpour affecting their visibility.
Raindrops continuously pelted against the window. Everyone in the car was lost deep in thought.
Imperia hadnât seen a heavy downpour in a long time. It was five years ago since that thunderstorm...
Noah turned sullen.
Beep! Beep!
The faint noise startled everyone in the silent car.
âSir, that sound...â Wayne Hudson immediately stopped the car. He could feel his heart threatening to leap out of his throat.
Noah didnât answer. His slender fingers slid along the seats. It wasnât long before he found a coin-sized yellow magnetic disc in the crevice under the mats.
The indicator above was still flickering. Noahâs expression began to darken under the dim light.
âSir, i-isnât this a tracker? Impossible. I checked through everything before we left. How can this be here?!â
Wayne stared at the thing in Noahâs hand that was flashing red and was horrified.
That flashing didnât indicate their location. It indicated the seconds of his life was counting down!
âHand me a laptop.â
Noah rarely got angry. He switched on his computer and immediately fired up the Quincy familyâs data analysis system.
Noah affixed the disk to the back of the computer when the system whirred to live. It didnât take long for a series of data update information to pop up on the screen.
He located the source of the signal within three minutes.
Gloom cast over Noahâs visage when he noticed the target on the map.
The Grants?
Impossible. They wouldnât dare.
He seemed uncertain. Wayne stood cautiously by his side.
He was afraid that Noah would be unhappy and have him sent to Alewell, a country far away, to suffer.
When the atmosphere in the car fell into an eerie silence, Noahâs phone rang.
âSir, Colton is missing! Heâs gone again!â
Noahâs expression sank. âWhat?!â
Was it because he had been too afraid? Was it because he hadnât gone home to accompany him? Or had he been taken away again?! Noah didnât look well when he considered the tracker and the compromised security system the day before.
The housekeeper could barely breathe over the call. âI...I donât know. The surveillance system wasnât breached, but Colton has gone missing!â
Noah ruthlessly crushed the tracker. âFind him!â
Meanwhile, at the Grant residence.
Angie Grant was left to swallow a bitter pill in silence. How could she just let it go?!
How could she possibly allow even Asher Walter to step all over her?!
She had already sent someone to teach Asher a lesson, but the first order of business was the 400 million!
Bruno Grant nearly fainted when Angie revealed the sum.
Fortunately, Mrs. Grant, Suzette, who was beside him, held him up and settled him on the couch.
âWhat did you say? 400 million? Why do you need 400 million, Angie?â
âDad, donât worry. The 400 million may seem like much now but Iâll have the honor as the global ambassador. Iâll marry into the Quincy family and become one of them. Whatâs a mere 400 million after I become a lady of the Quincy household?â
Angie spoke with great confidence but uncertainty plagued her on the inside.
