Chapter 39 Madeline only woke up briefly in the hospital due to the anestheticâs effect and then fell asleep again.
She wanted to be discharged from the hospital as soon as she woke up, but Andy dissuaded her and insisted that she stay for a 24-hour postoperative observation period.
Madeline could only concur because she also desired a speedy recovery.
Although Andy and Albert wanted to accompany her and care for her, their offer was declined to prevent someone from investigating the people around her.
Itâs only one night in the hospital. Itâs not hard at all!
It had been a long night of tossing and turning, and she was exhausted.
It was just that, despite having borrowed the effect of anesthetics, Madeline didnât sleep well.
Dreams wrapped themselves around her layer by layer, leaving her disoriented and dazed, until she lost herself and became trapped in that sad parting.
She was trapped on that rainy day when Noah was determined to wrong her and abandon her.
In her dream, she could still feel the pain in her stomach, which was so severe that she couldnât breathe...
The sensation of suffocation became increasingly intense, and Madeline awoke from her suffocation to find someone smothering her with a pillow.
She couldnât breathe because someone was murdering her!
Her bodyâs instantaneous warning of danger caused her to awaken. After struggling to locate the fruit knife she had hidden under the blanket, she quickly stabbed the assailant.
Even though she had missed, Madeline had time to catch her breath, and while the opponent was ducking and flinching, she managed to sit up and quickly turn on the light.
She could see the assailant was a man, but he was wearing a mask and a peaked cap, so she couldnât see his face.
Wait a minute... That outfit...
It was the same person who had previously tampered with her car!!
The man took out a dagger and charged at Madeline as she was thinking.
Every move was lethal.
Madeline had some skills as well, but one arm was injured and combined with her poor physical condition, she wouldnât be able to keep him at bay for long.
As soon as the man realized Madeline couldnât fight him off, he became a little enthused, and the attack intensified as if he wanted to end her life sooner.
Madeline no longer had the strength to go on the offensive. She could only be on the defensive, and it was becoming increasingly difficult for her to do so.
With a loud smack, the fruit knife in her hand fell to the ground.
The assailant then kicked her in the stomach, and Madeline fell directly to the opposite wall, pulling the wound on her arm and causing her to break out in a cold sweat.
Taking advantage of her falling to the ground, the man charged forward with the dagger. Madeline wanted to get up, but she didnât have the strength, and she felt a pang of despair in her heart.
Just as she thought she was about to face death again, the man in front of her was grabbed by the collar, lifted, and thrown backward.
The man flipped over in midair and landed solidly on the ground.
His abilities arenât all that bad. He doesnât appear to be your average assassin.
Madeline was saved, and she saw the person who had the timely appearance. It was Noah.
âNoah?â
âMs. Grant certainly has a lot of enemies!â
Noah sighed ruefully, his tone sarcastic.
The assailant didnât want to give up and fought Noah again. When he noticed the Quincy familyâs bodyguards approaching, he retreated hastily.
Noah directed Wayne to pursue him, and he turned around and returned to the ward, where he lifted Madeline, who had fallen to the ground.
Madeline was in excruciating pain throughout her body, and the wound on her arm had split open. She was as pitiful as she could be.
There was only one thing that stayed with her the entire time.
Noah had saved her!
He had actually saved her!
He didnât even consider trying to save her unborn child back then when she had been wronged and was heavily pregnant.
Noah was willingly carrying out this act for justice now that she had changed her identity and appearance?
What an irony!
âDo you know who wants you dead, Ms. Grant?â Noah stood by the bed, looking down at her pitiful face, and despite seeing the blood oozing out, he clearly didnât intend to call a doctor for her.
âIâm not too sure. Thank you for just now, Noah!â While her heart was in a state of turbulence, she quickly sorted out her emotions to prevent Noah from catching on.
Madeline pressed the emergency call button on the wall while talking.
âDo you really not know, Ms. Grant?â Noahâs face had a very telling expression.
Madeline had no idea what he was thinking, so she had no choice but to âtell the truth.â
âI donât know. You and Angie are the only people Iâve offended recently. If you didnât send that person to put on a show, then your fiancée must want to kill me to vent her rage. Shouldnât you be kicking yourself for saving me now?â
Madeline did her best to convey her resentment while saying this.
Noahâs face instantly darkened as he looked at her.
Madeline changed the topic after noticing that the wardâs atmosphere was increasingly chilly.
âYou came to the hospital at such late hours; could it be that you are just passing through here, or did you come to see me because you knew I was injured?â
âMy child became ill, so I took him to the doctor. Who knew Iâd run into Ms. Grant, who was being assassinated by chance?â
Noah thought this excuse was reasonable even if he didnât bring the child with him!
He felt compelled to be here because he thought this woman was suspicious.
He was pacing irrationally in his home. study. He sensed something strange was going on and went to the hospital, but he accidentally ran into her assassination.
He couldnât tell Madeline the truth because sheâd think he liked her, and sheâd seduce him whether she was being genuine or not.
This is so frustrating!
âThe child is ill? What happened?â Madelineâs heart leaped to her throat when she heard him say that.
Thomas had always been a physically fit child. How could he have become ill so suddenly?
âMs. Grant, you seemed very concerned about my child?â
âOh, Noah. You still donât get it? âLove me, love my dog, they say. Iâve also met Colton, the Quincy familyâs baby. Such a cute little boy is sick. Whatâs the matter?â
Madeline quickly adopted a shy expression after her initial reaction when she realized she had almost exposed herself.
âColt is fine. Itâs nothing more than allergies. Thank you for your concern, Ms. Grant.â Noahâs eyes were fixed on Madelineâs face as he said that.
He seemed to want to see through her, eat through her, and then extract her true mind.
âYou canât wait if youâre allergic. Have you found out what the allergen is? Could he have eaten something like ginger by mistake? Noah, you must check it carefully!â
Madeline was distraught. Thomas had always been in good health. If he was allergic, it was because she was also allergic to ginger.
She was careless and neglected to warn Thomas to be cautious.
Did Noah already realize Thomas wasnât Colt?
Was it possible that Colt, like her, was allergic to ginger?
Madeline was nervous because she couldnât figure out the answer.
âHow did Ms. Grant know Colton has a ginger allergy?â
