YOUR POV

"Nows your chance, y/n. Go and tell Nat how you really feel." Clint smiled at me, gently pushing me in the direction of the redhead sitting on the couch.

"Hey Nat!" I waved catching her attention.

"Y/n! I have something to tell you." The woman smiled.

"Really because I have something to tell you too." I scratched my forearm nervously as I felt the anxiety and fear bubbling in my stomach.

"You can go first." Nat nodded, practically on the edge of the couch cushion.

I shook my head, "No it's okay. What do you have to tell me?"

Nat bit her bottom lip as she tried to refrain herself from smiling and my heart started beating a mile a minute, "Steve asked me out and I said yes!"

My heart plummeted as everything seemed to stop. My face fell and I had to stop myself from crying right then and there.

"Oh." I said emotionless, "Good for you... and him." I laughed as best as I could to show I was happy for her and the super solider.

"Thank you. So what did you have to tell me?"

"Ummm..." I cleared my throat in hopes the lump would go away, "Just wondering if you could braid my hair sometime. I like what you do with it."

Lies. It was easier to lie to her than I thought, with her being an ex assassin and all, trained to weed out the liars.

Nat just smiled and told me she would love to do that sometime. I bid my goodbyes and said I was going to go to my room if she needed me, which I hope neither her nor Steve did.

I should have known I wouldn't have a chance with her. I mean, look at her! Ever since her and Steve came back from looking for the Winter Solider, they acted different. I didn't think anything of it, assuming they just became closer as friends. I was naive to think that. I hated to admit that her and Steve actually looked cute together. My stomach wrenched at that, making me gag.

I pushed open my door to see my best friend Clint waiting for me on my bed, "So?" He smiled waiting for me to tell him what Nat said.

I shook my head and closing the door behind me, "She's with Steve." I cried as soon as his arms wrapped around me and pulled me into his chest.

"Awe y/n," Clint said sadly, the tips of his fingers rubbing my back. "I know just what you need!"

"To be left alone so I can wallow in my own sadness and depression?" I said dryly.

"No." Clint chuckled, "I'll be back."

I watched as Clint left my bedroom swiftly, me deciding that I should get up with the remaining energy I have left to change into something a little more comfortable. I hiked up the grey sweats and pulled the oversized hoodie over my head, throwing myself back on my comfortable bed where I turned Netflix on.

"I'm back and I brought snacks. Some chocolate because it's good for the soul, some wine to wash it down, and!" Clint held up a large stack of movies and a few CDs, "Some classics."

My lips curled back into a small smile, wondering how I got lucky to have a best friend like him.

"You're amazing, Clint." I chuckled breathlessly.

"Hey, you're the most important woman in my life and I don't like to see you sad. Especially over someone who doesn't deserve you." The archer told me sincerely, popping open the bottle of wine to pour in the wine glasses.

A MONTH LATER

"Clint stop!" I squealed when he began tickling me.

"Not until you say it!" He laughed, pressing his fingers deeper in my side I squirmed around on the couch.

"Never!" I wheezed.

"Then I'm not going to stop!" Clint tossed his head back with a laugh.

"Fine! Clint is so handsome and the strongest avenger." I got out through my fits of laughter.

"Someone call for the strongest avenger?" Thor walked into the living room with a smile on his face and a box of pop tarts in hand.

Clint and I burst out into a fit of laughter, my stomach starting to hurt and I hoped I'd have abs after this.

"What's going on out here?" Steve asked standing next to Thor, Natasha glued to the super soldiers side.

I glanced at the red head, feeling my heart pang just a little. Clint grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers together in reassurance.

"Nice to see you're not moping around, y/n. I missed ya." Tony poured himself a small glass of scotch.

"I agree. Lady y/n, can you teach me more stuff about the small device in your hand?" Thor shoved a pop tart in his mouth.

"It's called a phone, Thor." I playfully rolled my eyes, "And sure, I'll teach you more tomorrow."

"So Clint," Tony plopped down next to the archer, "Is y/n your girlfriend?"

I felt my face get hot as Stark wiggled his eyebrows at me.

"I uhm.. well-"

"Ooo I think he likes you." Tony smiled at me. Clint hit Tony and both of them started a wrestling match on the living room floor.

I shook my head at the boys and got up from the couch, noticing Natasha wasn't by Steve's side anymore. Odd.

I made my way back to my room, wanting to continue watching the Netflix show Clint and I started yesterday. Of course I was going to wait for him to come and join me, I wasn't a complete monster.

"You weren't going to start the show without me, were ya?" Clint plopped down beside me on my bed, wrapping a muscular arm around me and pulling me into his side.

"Nope." I replied popping the p and rested my head on his chest.

"I'm sorry about what Tony said."

"You don't have to apologize. Stark says random shit all the time," I chuckled.

"Well it's not that random... I do like you, y/n. A lot actually and I understand if you don't feel the same way. It's just I've enjoyed this time we've been spending together and I don't want to lose you as a friend."

"I like you too, Clint. I was scared at first and didn't want to accept the feelings, but you've taken care of me and listened to my problems. You don't even care when I soak your shirt in my tears."

Clint pumped his fist in the air, "You don't know how happy I am right now. Let me take you out tonight, we can do whatever you want to do."

"How about we go walk around the museum. I know you've been talking about the new exhibit they put in." I ran my fingers through his short locks.

[...]

"And where do you think you're going looking like that?" Tony stood up from the couch as soon as I walked downstairs in the clothes I picked out for Clint and Is date.

"Is it really that bad?" I asked looking down at the outfit.

"It's beautiful. Tony's just a worried dad. Here let me fix your hair a little." Natasha said, shocking me a little.

Her and I went into the kitchen, her claiming it had better lighting for her to see but I couldn't help but feel awkward around her.

"Where are you and Clint going?" She asked making conversation.

"The museum."

"I'm sure that'll be fun." Nat sighed, "You know I hate myself for not letting you speak first that day."

"What? Why?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Because... I asked Clint why you didn't hangout with me anymore and why he wouldn't let me see you in your room. He told me that you liked me and planned on telling me that."

"Not like it would have changed anything. You said yes to Steve."

"Only because I didn't think you liked me. I should have just told you how I felt sooner and maybe now we'd be together. I fucked up and I hate myself for it. It sucks to see you happy with a person who isn't me." Nat ran a hand through her fiery locks.

"Hey," I said gently, "There had to be one universe you and I didn't end up together. Here and now, we'll, I guess this is the one."

"If only it wasn't." The ex assassin whispered under her breath, "Your hairs done."

"How do I look?"

"Beautiful. Clint's a lucky guy."

I just smiled and both of us walked out of the kitchen to see Clint with a white button down tucked into his black slacks, holding my favorite flower in his hand.

Clint's eyes lit up when he saw me, smile getting ten times larger if that was possible.

"You look beautiful, y/n. This is for you." Clint handed me the flower as his eyes raked me in.

"You don't look too bad yourself, Barton. I'll put this in some water and we can go."

"I'll do it. You guys have fun." Natasha smiled at both of us. Clint nodded his head at her before leading me out of the compound where our date awaited.
