Ch29: You'll Never See It Coming
"Trust is something that you can gain."
"Of course, but only over time. You can't just show up and expect for trust to be granted to you."
"When did you realize you could trust him?"
"The day I realize he was the only person I had left."
"So you only noticed him after everyone else had left?"
"Yes."
" Why?"
"Because I was so focused on everything else that was happening that I couldn't appreciate the people I had around me and when I finally had time he was the only person left for me to appreciate."
"By everything else, do you mean the time you spent in jail?"
"Yes."
" Okay, tell me about your time in jail?"
"What do you want to know?"
"Everything."

Day 170
"We haven't found out anything," Elliot exclaims placing both his hands over his face.
They've been trying to interview all the people on the list that Nathan gave them before he died, but localizing them has been harder then they thought. So far the only people they've been able to talk to have been Will my chauffer and Maury Luis' sister. They both had no important information to share.
"Its okay," I say " we knew that this wasn't going to be easy."
"Your trial is in ten days," Noah frowns "and we have no evidence that would help you."
"Okay," I take a deep breath "what did William say?"
"Nothing useful," Elliot growls.
"Hey," I exclaim "I'm the one locked away you don't get to be in a crappy mood. I get to be in a crappy mood and I'm not so suck it up and tell me what the hell he said."
Lately I've been the only person that has kept her sanity or at least I try to pretend like I have. Everyday that goes by I get my ass kicked worse and worse by Bull. Last week she bruised the entire right side of my torso by kicking me multiple times for looking at her the wrong way. Yesterday she body slammed me against a wall and left my entire back a dark purple because I accidentally stepped on her shoe.
I know Elliot's been drinking and getting into bar fights. Just last week he showed up with a busted lip and bruised knuckles, but when I asked about it he said it was nothing and refused to talk about it.
Noah has been doing nothing, but working on the case. I can tell from the enormous dark bags under his bright blue ocean eyes and the fact that all he wants to talk about is the case and what to do next to get evidence. I try asking about his day or school, but he also refuses to talk about it and simply continues talking about the case.
"I'm sorry," Elliot smiles nodding "Will said that the day Luis died he was in charge of driving Alisson around. He said that he took her to a bakery on Fidel street and-"
A baker on Fidel street?
Tina's Bakery?
"What was the bakery called?" I ask interrupting Elliot.
"Gina's," Elliot frowns "or was it Dina's?"
"Tina's Bakery," I whisper. "Why would Alisson go to Tina's Bakery?"
"What is it Abrelle?" Noah asks.
"It's called Tina's Bakery," I explain "it's where I first met Sam the guy who helped me escape. I just don't understand why Alisson would want to go there."
"Well," Elliot speaks "I guess what Will told us is useful."
"What else did he say?"
"He said that he drove Alisson there," Noah answers "and that she met up with some guy in a black hoodie. We asked him who it was, but he said he wasn't able to see the man's face. All they did was sit down and talk for like an hour and then they left."
Who could the man have been?
"So why is that useful?" I ask.
"I think the man is Sam," Elliot states and I immediately shake my head.
"It's not Sam," I say defensively "he doesn't like Alisson and she doesn't like him back. Besides he would've told me if he'd met up with Alisson."
"He could have kept it from you," Elliot argues, which causes me to glare at him.
"It wasn't him," I emphasize each word.
"You trust him a lot, don't you?" Noah asks.
Trust him? Of course I do.
Although the last time I'd talked to him on the phone I felt like I couldn't trust him, but when he came to visit me two weeks ago everything was fine. He explained that the girl was a co-worker for the case and he didn't want to tell me because he was afraid she'd think they had something serious which wasn't the case. I believe him of course, why would he lie to me?
"Yes," I reply "he's done nothing, but gain my trust."
"Fine," Elliot throws his hands in the air "if it's not Sam then who is it?"
"I don't know," I breath out "but maybe you guys can go talk to the owner of the place ask to see the security cameras."
"We would need a warrant to do that," Noah shakes his head "and in order to get one we have to have a judge sign it."
"Then go to a judge," I say.
"Okay so we go to a judge," he explains frustrated "and ask for a warrant to Tina's Bakery's security cameras because we want to find out who the mysterious man your sister was meeting up with is. I doubt any judge will sign a warrant for that."
"I'm just trying to help," I say through gritted teeth.
"We know," Elliot frowns "but maybe we just have to let this one go."
"Right," Noah says sarcastically "let's just let the only potential lead we have go. That sounds like a fantastic idea."
"This isn't a lead," I exclaim. "The only thing we know is that my sister was meeting with some guy in a black hoodie, and for all we know he may be her secret boyfriend."
"She knew Luis," Noah argues "and I believe she is somehow involved in all of this, so yes this is a lead."
"No it's not," I state. "Alisson may be all those horrible things, but she is not a murderer."
"I'm not saying she killed him," he rolls his eyes "all I'm saying is she's somehow involved in all of this."
"No she's not," I take a deep breath.
"She slept with Luis," he yells and I flinch at the bitterness in his voice.
"I know that," I whisper.
"Abrelle, I'm so sorry," Noah apologizes.
"I think we're done for today," I say, my voice distant. "I don't want to keep talking about this anymore."
"Abrelle-" Noah frowns.
"We're not getting anywhere," I look up at him. "You don't sleep and Elliot's one step closer to becoming an agressive alcoholic. I'm just tired of all of this."
"We can get somewhere," Elliot explains "we just have to keep digging."
"I have ten days left," I yell frustrated "and we have nothing. Absolutely nothing and I'm tired. I can't do this anymore Elliot. I just want this all to end already."
"So you're giving up," Noah speaks, disappointed. "After eveything that's happened and all that we've done your giving up."
Everything that's happened.
Nathan died for this.
Sam sacraficed so much for this.
Noah and Elliot have been here for all of this.
I can't give up.
"No," I answer "I'm not giving up."
"Okay," Elliot smiles "because no one is allowed to give."
"No one is going to," I assure him.
"Good," Noah says looking down at his phone "because I just got a message from Daniel Cox's wife."
Daniel Cox?
"Daniel Cox? That's police officer Nathan wanted us to interview, " Elliot exclaims, excitement all over his brown eyes.
"Yeah," Noah laughs "she says she can talk to us about her husband."
Why doesn't Daniel Cox do it?
"Why is his wife talking to you?" I ask confused. "Why isn't he?"
"I don't know," Noah stands "but this is good news."
"Yeah," Elliot chuckles "we'll probably get really good evidence from her."
"Who knows," I shrug "she may not know anything helpful."
"She might," Elliot insists. "Besides this is good news Abrelle. We can get something out of this."
"You're right," I fake a big smile.
"We're going to get you out of here," Noah smiles confidently. "I promise we will Abrelle."
"Keep hope up," Elliot stands up "don't give up now, okay?"
Okay.

Day 171
"Look who's here," Bull exclaims pushing me towards the wall.
I was on my way to the visiting room as she was making her way back. The gaurd who's escorting me is currently pretending to look the other way as I'm crushed against the wall.
Good thing we have security or who knows what would happen in this place.
"I've been looking for you," she smiles grabbing my chin with her left hand. "I heard your trial is coming up."
"Yeah," I speak and she pulls me with her right hand by the hair towards her.
"Did I say you could talk?" She
yanks my hair and a small yell escapes my lips, but I don't answer.
"That's better," she releases me before slamming me against the wall again. "You better hope you get the hell out of here pretty girl because if you dont," she fakes a frown "I'll be here waiting for you."
Before I even have the chance to murmur a response she begins walking away, roughly patting the gaurd's back on her way.
"Are you going to move or not?" the gaurd pushes me towards the visiting room's door. I quickly open the door and make my way in making sure my face doesn't give away any of the pain or fear I'm in.
"Right there," the gaurd points to the empty seat on the right hand corner of the room. Nodding slightly I make my way towards the corner and take a seat on the empty chair.
Elizabeth Louise sits in front of me, a big smile on her face.
"How are you Abrelle?" she speaks as I place the phone against my ear.
"Fine," I state, my voice cold and distant. "Why are you here?"
"I came to see you," she frowns. "I had been doing it consistently, but you know how work gets sometimes you have lots of free time and other times your just full."
"Yeah," I nod. "So you visiting me has nothing to do with the document you want me to sign?"
I see my mother's eyes fill with panic, but its quickly gone.
She is here for the document.
Of course she is, my mother doesn't care about me.
"Look," she says regaining her composure "I'm here to make a deal with you. "
A deal? I wasn't expecting that.
"What kind of deal?" I ask, confused and usure.
"I will testify in your favor, " she smirks "if you promise to sign a document that will make me the one and only owner of L&F's."
What?
What can my mother possibly know that can be worth such a price?
"You will testify in my favor," I say amused. "And how will that help me?"
"Because I know who went to Luis' house the day of the murder," she answers "which automatically makes them suspects. In fact I have pictures of these people walking in and out of his house around the time the murder happened."
How does my mother know this?
"How?" I ask unable to hide my shock.
"I wanted to keep an eye on him," she explains "so I paid a man to follow him everywhere and take pictures of him at all times in case he did anything or saw anyone, that way I could have something to blackmail him with so he'd leave you alone."
Right.
I'm not suprised, my mother is one to blackmail people into submission.
But is this information worth it?
Of course it is, but what if I want both? Evidence and my company.
And I think I know exactly how to get that.
"Fine," I agree. "I'll sign the document, but my lawyer gets to make it. Deal?"
"Deal," she smiles and I smile back.
Oh Elizabeth, you'll never see it coming...
