Ava POV
"What did Kyle say?" Hailz asked as we started walking to class. I don't know what Kenz was doing but it sounded like she was on her phone from all the tapping and ding sounds coming from her.
I shrugged, "nothing, he just called me a desperate, seeking attention whore."
"WHAT?!"
I laughed, "don't worry, guys. I'm okay."
They were silent for a moment.
"A?" Kenz hesitated. "You're not gonna... do anything too harsh, are you?"
I smiled sweetly, "of course not, why would I do such a thing?"
"Ava, come on, we know you. You are planning something, we don't know what but please don't do anything stupid okay?" Hailz pleaded.
I dropped the smile and stopped, "he shouldn't have humiliated me in front of the whole school then. I warned him before and it seems embarrassing him in front of his boys by beating him black and blue isn't enough to teach him, then I will show him what I can really do to him. Don't worry, I won't touch him, but what I have against him will make him wish he never opened his mouth in the first place."
"Ava, please," Kenz begged as she grabbed onto my arm, "you don't even care what other people think."
I yanked my arm away and glared, "Yes, you're right but that doesn't mean I am going to make others walk over me just because I am blind. They think that us disabled people are below them and I know you don't think that way but I can't..." I sighed, "I just can't let it go... okay? I'm sorry but... I need to do this. If not, I'm just going to hold onto all my anger and you know that doesn't work well for me. I know it seems like a little thing but this has been going on for years and to any other person, I know for a fact that bullying could lead to suicide for some people. This is my way of dealing with it."
Hailz sighed and hugged me. I felt Kenz go behind me, hugging us both. "We understand. Just don't get into any trouble and don't kill him."
I rolled my eyes, "don't be so dramatic. I am not a murderer."
"Yeah, but you are a trained fighter," Kenz teased.
"Shh! Someone might hear you!" I hissed.
I swear I can feel them rolling their eyes at me. "Like as if they couldn't figure that out with how you act. I'm surprised no one saw you slam Ryder against the lockers yesterday. Are these people blind or something?"
I laughed at that, "I know right? Come on, you guys gotta head to class."
"Where are you gonna be? I still kind of find it unfair that you get to have three free periods." Hailz whined.
I laughed, "well, if you guys listened to me and did online classes, you would have free periods, too."
"Whatever," Hailz said.
I laughed again and shoved them, "Go."
"Yes, ma'am!" they both shouted as they ran to class.
I shook my head and started walking down the hall, listening for the sound of the instruments. I took a right and heard a piano playing and I smiled.
I walked a few feet and placed my hand on the door and pushed lightly.
"Ahhh, Ms. Ava, it's good to see you here again," Mr. Logan greeted.
I took off my ray banz and placed it on top of my head. "Hi, Logan."
He insisted I called him Logan since he is actually a close friend of Uncle Dave and probably because I was his best student during freshman year. Ever since I got into music class, it became something that helped me through my struggles. It helped me get away and find peace. I know it sounds stupid but that's how I feel. At first, I was angry because how could a blind girl play? Logan was patient though and he helped me through it. This was during the time when I was still learning to depend on my senses. It took me awhile but after a few weeks, I loved it. Uncle Dave was surprised when I started playing the piano at home because although it was almost two years he's been training me, I was still struggling. I guess you could say, music took a part in saving me.
"You here to play again?"
"Yes, if you don't mind," I smiled.
"Oh, I never. I just wish you would join the Talent show that will be coming up in a few months."
"I know, I'll think about it."
He laughed, "You always say that, I hope you actually decide to join this year."
"Maybe I will, I promise I'll consider it."
"I guess it's the best that I can get. Well, just make sure to lock up the door when you leave."
"Okay," I waved as I walked towards where the piano is usually placed. Logan made sure nothing was moved or misplaced, even though I'm okay with wherever it's at.
I sat on the bench in front of the piano and stroked the keys, getting the feel of it. I closed my eyes even though it made no difference since darkness is all I see. I started playing the first keys to the song that has been playing in my head the whole day. As the keys struck the tune, I couldn't help but smile as the harmony of it played throughout the room. I played the intro fluently and then I sang.
The day we met
Frozen I held my breath
Right from the start
I knew that I found the home for my heart to fall
This song is something I cherish most because it was my parents song. I remember when I was little, my mom told me that this was the song that made her fall more deeply in love with my dad because he sang it to her before he proposed to her right under the stars. I may have been really young but it made me wish for someone like that.
One step closer
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
I played the last keys and let the melody fade, then I started playing another song to remove the sadness I was feeling. Although, I miss them so much, I'm happy they are together in heaven, where I know they belong.
Ryder POV
I was walking towards the boy's restroom when I heard someone singing. The voice was so mesmerizing and beautiful, I couldn't help but be drawn to it.
When I reached the music room, I slowly opened the door and saw a girl with long brown wavy hair reaching her hips, sitting at the piano. At first I didn't recognize her but when I listened to her voice, I realized it was Ava.
I stared, awed by her. How she played was so graceful and fluent, her voice was like a voice of an angel that you couldn't help but just watch and listen. Although, as she sang, I can hear a hint of sadness. Was this song for an old boyfriend? Wait, does she have a boyfriend?
With that thought, jealousy ran through me and I immediately shook it off. Why would I be jealous if she had a boyfriend? It's not like I like her. Hell, I bet she hates me. I pushed away the thoughts of her being with someone and focused on her once again.
She truly is different from other girls. I just feel like she is hiding something. I mentally rolled my eyes. Of course she is, she's practically a mystery in itself.
The song was coming to an end so I slowly walked out and gently closed the door. I started walking back to where Jake and Derrick were waiting outside.
"Dude," Derrick said as he straightened up from the wall, "what the fuck took you so long?"
I shrugged, "I needed to take a shit. What? You wanna follow me next time?"
His face screwed up in disgust, "fuck no!"
Jake burst out laughing and I joined in. Derrick glared at us and started walking to the car. "Let's go, fúckers. We are gonna be late."
We were still laughing as we got into the car and Derrick blasted the music, driving off to our destination.
I lowered the radio and turned to them. "You guys ready?"
Jake was practically bouncing up and down in his seat from excitement. "Hell fúck yeah! Let's do this!"
Derrick shook his, grinning, "yeah, I'm ready."
"Okay," I smirked, "our bikes are being held at Joe's place so we can go there, drop the car and just drive our bikes to The Tracks.
The Tracks is a place where we do illegal street racing, except in our case, it's with motorcycles. I guess it's more dangerous than racing in a car because there is a big chance you could fly off your bike and die but aye, it's fun.
"Alright! Let's do this!" Jake hollered as Derrick sped the car, making me laugh.
What would I do without these idiots? I grinned as I thought of the $2000 we would get if we won and I'm damn sure we will win.
