Chapter Sixty-One

🎭 Creatures Of The Night 🎭

Amara laid next to Scott on the hood of the Jeep at Lookout Point, watching the night sky. "All right, so I found some cool two bedrooms in the Mission District, but they're pretty expensive. A couple in Haight and Ashbury, also expensive." Stiles said, he had a map of the greater San Francisco region spread out on the hood of the Jeep next to Scott and is marking potential places to live for college.

"What about Berkeley? Don't a lot of students live around there?" Scott asked, looking over at Stiles who nodded. "Yeah, yeah, we could try Knob Hill. But, the Jeep would probably burn through a lot of clutches." Stiles said making Amara sit up against her forearms to look over at him.

"You're really gonna bring the jeep?" Amara asked and he looked at her like that was the dumbest question she could ever ask, "You know the plan, okay? No one gets left behind. That's the plan. Lydia isn't gonna have any problems getting into Stanford and you'll probably get into Boston University, Kira's thinking USF. Malia's, uh, gonna, you know, she'll figure something out, okay. The plan's perfect." Stiles said and Amara nodded slightly.

"Or we could also wait until we actually get into college and then figure out where to live." Scott said and Stiles looked at him offended now, "I have a vision, dude. Okay? And it is a beautiful vision. Don't ruin the vision." Stiles said and they chuckled before looking back out at the sky while Stiles went back to the map. "Okay, we can check out the East Bay. Haven't looked at Oakland yet, you know." He said before looking at Scott then at the full moon.

"You're all right? You're starting to feel it?" Stiles asked and Scott shook his head, "No. Just thinking." Scott said and Amara glanced over at him. "About what?" She ask and he looked over at her before glancing at Stiles, "Senior year."

"Senior year, come on, that's, that's... That's nothing. That's going to be easy." Stiles said and Scott sighed softly and sat up. "It's more like something Deaton told me once. You ever hear of "regression to the mean"?" Scott asked Stiles and Amara shook their heads, "No, I don't think so." Stiles said.

"It was his way of saying that life can't ever be all bad or all good. You know, eventually, things have to come back to the middle. So, think about the last few months. Things have been good, right? But not amazing." Scott said and Stiles pursed his lips, "Yeah, but no one's tried to kill us in six months either."

"Right. We've been pretty much in the middle for a while... Which means, at some point, the scale has to tip one way or the other. Things are gonna get really good again." Scott said and Amara sighed softly, "Or really bad." She said and Scott nodded. They looked back out again when there was a loud thunder and flash of light as the storm starts to gather.

"Think it's been long enough?"

"Yes!"

They turn around to look at Liam who has been chained to a tree the whole time they've been there. "Hey. Trying to have an adult conversation over here." Stiles says making Liam roll his eyes, "All right, you're two years older than me, and I'm fine. Just let me go." Liam said and they sighed before walking over to him.

"It's not that we don't trust you-" Scott said as he pulled out the keys, "It's that I don't trust you." Stiles interjected. "But after that last full moon." Scott said making Liam sigh, "It was one slip-up!" He defended making Stiles raise his eyebrows.

"Slip-up? A dozen calls to the Sheriff's department about a monstrous dog boy running around the streets of Beacon Hills??? Naked???" Stiles said exasperatedly making Amara furrow her brows, "Why were you naked?" She asked and he looked down sheepishly. "It was really hot out that night, okay? Let me go!"

"You sure you're okay? Scott asked and Liam nodded, "It won't happen again." He said and Scott raised his eyebrows. "You're in complete and total control." He said and Liam sighed and nodded again, "Yeah. Complete and total."

A few minutes later they were all in the jeep driving down the road. Scott and Stiles sat in the front while Amara and Liam sat in the back, him leaning in between the front seats. "Is it a party?" Liam asked, "It's not a party." Stiles answered slightly annoyed.

"Then what's at midnight?"

"Your bedtime." Stiles said making Liam roll his eyes while Amara chuckled, not looking up from her phone. "Why aren't the girls going?" Liam asked making Amara scoff and look up at him, "Do I not exist anymore?" She asked but they ignored her. "They're meeting us there, okay? And just stop asking questions, all right? It's a senior thing. You'll know when you're a senior."

"You guys having trouble with your phones?" Scott asked and Amara sighed and glanced down at her phone, "Yeah, none of my texts are sending." She said and almost right after the engine started spluttering before stopping. "You out of gas?" Liam asked and Stiles shook his head, "No, it's electrical. Probably the alternator again." Stiles said before him and Scott got out.

Amara waited until she saw the hood go up before turning to Liam. "So, you gonna lie all night?" She asked making him look at her wide eyed, "W-What?" He asked and she raised her eyebrows. "I'm not an idiot, Liam. Show me your hands." She said and he sighed before holding his hand out to show bloody claw indents in his palm.

"You don't have to say anything, I already know." He said and she shrugged slightly, "All I was gonna say was that you don't need to lie. Control is a tricky thing to learn, no ones gonna judge you." Amara said.

All of the sudden a lightning strikes down about thirty feet behind the jeep making Liam and Amara turn to look out the back window. "Guys." Liam said and then another lightning striked, this time close to the jeep making the two jump. "Hey, dumbasses!" Amara yelled.

"Yeah, give us a second, please."

"Guys, stay in the car, okay?" Scott and Stiles yelled back making Amara scoff, "He did not just-" She mumbled as she climbed into the front seat. This time a lightning strike hit about twenty feet away from Scott and Stiles making them spin around. "That was close." Scott said and Stiles nodded, "Very close."

Amara turned the key and the jeep came to life making the boys spin around as she peeked her head out the window. "Can we go now? I'd prefer to not get stuck by lightning." She said and they nodded before walking over whole she climbed back into the back seat.

A few minutes later Stiles pulled up where Malia told them to meet her, "Sorry we're late! Hey." Stiles said as Malia ran up and kissed him. When they pulled away Liam leaned forward with a smirk, "I'm sorry, too." He said making Amara chuckle as he sat back down. "You boys do remember I own a gun, right?" Mr. Tate asked making Stiles's eyes widen slightly, "Vividly."

"Don't worry, I'm here." Amara said, leaning in between the front seats, "That doesn't make me feel any better Amara." He said making her jaw drop in offense. "We're not friends anymore." She said before sitting back down.

A few seconds later Malia climbed in and sat down next to Liam, making him be in the middle. Almost instantly, everyone turned to Malia, "What?" She asked when she noticing all their eyes on her. "Did you find out yet?" Amara asked making Malia and Liam look at her, "Find out what?" Liam asked.

"They're gonna email me." Malia said nodding, "Is this about summer school?" Liam asked making Amara close her eyes while pinching the bridge of her nose while Malia looked at Stiles wide-eyed. "You told him?" She asked making Stiles's eyes widen while Liam shook his head.

"Oh, no! All they said was you had to go to summer school 'cause the principal said your test scores weren't good enough and you might have to repeat Jun-" Liam said but his words got muffled as Amara covered his mouth with her hand while Stiles looked at Scott.

"We should have left him chained to the tree."

🎭

Malia and Amara stood by the reception desk of the hospital, talking to Melissa when Stiles and Scott walked up to them. "Malia, if you were going away, and I told you "Don't worry, go have fun," what would you think I was talking about?" Stiles asked making them look over at him, "Fun like bowling? Or sex with other guys?" Malia asked making Amara give them all a weird look as Scott's face drained of color.

"I'm concerned if that's what you think Kira, of all people, would do." Amara said before a few paramedics moved past them, rolling someone on a gurney. "Hey, Mom? Where's all this coming from?" Scott asked as Melissa started following, "A jack-knifed tractor-trailer on 115- caused a major pile-up." She said making Amara's eyes widen as she turned to Scott.

"I hate to be that person but uh- 115 is the only way to get into Beacon Hills from the airport. Kira's never gonna make it." Amara said and Scott's eyes widened before shaking his head, "I can get her. You guys head to the school. Lydia's probably already there. We'll meet you by midnight." Scott said as he walked away from them.

"How are you gonna get to her in the middle of a traffic jam?" Stiles asked and Scott looked back at him, "We'll make it. Trust me." He said before walking out. Amara nodded slowly and squinted slightly, "If one of us is saying something like that, it's normally followed up by doing something very illegal." She said as she turned to look at Stiles and Malia who both nodded.

🎭

"Nothing from Scott or Kira." Malia said and Amara sighed, "And nothing from Lydia, either." She said. "And I still don't know if I passed." Malia said before looking around at everyone, "I don't want to do this unless I'm actually a senior." She said and Amara sighed and patted Malia's shoulder, "You'll pass. I know it." Amara said before stepping away.

She looked down at her phone to see if she's gotten anything yet, trying to see if Lydia was at the school or not. She sighed, seeing she still had no service before putting her phone away. She turned back to Stiles and Malia to see them kissing making her cringe before looking away.

Suddenly someone ran up and grabbed her shoulder making her reflexes kick in before grabbing the person's hand and kicking their feet out from under them and pressing her foot to their chest. "It's me! It's me!" Liam yelled making Amara look down at him and sigh before holding her hand out.

"I could have burned you. You realize that, right?" She asked as Stiles and Malia walked over to them. "I know! I'm sorry but Scott's in trouble!" He said making them all look at each other before breaking into a run.

They followed Liam until they made it to the tunnel that connected the school to the field. Scott was on his knees with some dude standing in front of him with his claws inside Scott's chest. Amara was about to run forward but Stiles grabbed her arm when Scott grabbed the man wrist before slowly looking up at him with red eyes.

Slowly, he got enough strength to stand up making the man look shocked. Scott grabbed the dude's arm before snapping it making him groan out in pain and fall to his knees. "I don't know who you are, or what you thought you were going to do, but I'll give you a choice. You can stay, and I'll break something else... Or you can run." Scott said and the man looked over at everyone else.

"I would run." Amara said. Almost instantly the man got up and ran out of the tunnel making them walk over to Scott and Kira. That's when they noticed an extra person.

"You guys don't remember me, do you?" He asked, looking at Scott, Amara and Stiles who just look at him confused. "I guess I look a little different since the fourth grade." He said and realization crossed over Scott's face, "Theo?" He asked and Amara furrowed her brows slightly.

"You know him?" Malia asked making them look over at her, "They used to. Trust me, I never thought I'd see you guys again. A couple of months ago, I heard of two Alphas in one pack in Beacon Hills. When I found out their names were Scott McCall and Amara Hale, I just couldn't believe it. Not just Alphas, but a True Alpha and A Pyro Witch Alpha." Theo said.

"What do you want?" Scott asked and Theo smiled, "I came back to Beacon Hills- back home with my family- because I want to be a part of your pack." Theo said making both Amara and Stiles look at him warily. It was quiet for a minute until Amara shook her head.

"Access denied." She said before turning around and walking back to the stairs.

"We haven't seen this kid in years- you don't find that highly suspicious?" Stiles asked as they walked into the school, "I'm kind of more concerned about the guy who just tried to kill me." Scott said and then Malia's phone buzzed making them all turn to her.

"I'm in! I passed." Malia said making Amara smile as Stiles pulled Malia into a hug. "I told you." Amara said before hugging Malia as well, "I'm officially a senior." Malia said happily.

"Thank God!" Someone said making them all turn to see Lydia walking over to them, "Where have you guys been? The whole senior class is here! Are we doing this or not?" Lydia asked. They all looked at each other and smiled before nodding, "Let's do this." Amara said making Lydia chuckle before Amara tossed her arm over Lydia's shoulders and they all started walking to the library.

Stiles was the first one to write his initial on the shelf before handing the pen over to Lydia. "This isn't vandalism, is it?" Kira asked as Lydia handed her the pen, "Not technically." Lydia said before walking away.

Kira wrote her initials then handed Malia the pen. Malia wrote an "M" before hesitating for a moment before writing a "T" and smiled to herself and handed Scott the pen. Scott wrote his initials but then handed the pen to Amara. Amara glanced down at the shelve below to see her cousin's initials making her smile softly.

She wrote 'AH' and was about to hand the pen to the next person but hesitated for a moment. She smiled sadly before writing 'AA' making her friends all smile softly.

Amara took a deep breath before handing the pen to the next person then walking over to her friends. She stood next to Lydia who wrapped her arm around Amara's waist making Amara wrap her arm around Lydia's shoulder. "She would have been with us." Stiles said, "She still is." Lydia said looking at all of them making them smile softly while Amara nodded in agreement.
