Aurora did her best to swallow the lump in her throat, painting a bittersweet smile on her face as she stared at the boy beside her, seeing him run his fingers through his curls before meeting her gaze.
Walker mustered a grin, taking in her features.
"hi." he mumbled.
"hi." she cringed at the way her voice wobbled. the boy reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers and giving it a gentle squeeze.
"i know, i don't wanna leave either but ill be back soon." he assured, and she frowned. stop being such a baby, she mentally shouted. no one likes a girl that's clingy. Aurora shifted in her seat.
"will you really?" she asked hopefully, to which the boy nodded.
"maybe ill even bring Leah so you can finally meet her." he poked her cheek, causing her to let out a giggle. Walker grinned at the sound, his own cheeks flushing pink.
"yes! please bring her. i miss her and i've never even met her." Aurora suddenly perked up and Walker laughed at her words. the busy chatter from the airport reached their ears, and the girls heart grew heavy once again.
"uh, i guess i better get going, i don't wanna miss my flight." he scratched the nap of his neck and swung the car door open. Aurora followed his footsteps, watching as he opened the trunk and pulled his carry-on out. he then turned to her.
before he could say anything, Aurora leaped towards him, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him into a tight embrace. walker froze for a moment before registering her actions, curling his arms around her waist and returning the embrace. it was a bittersweet feeling.
"goodbye walker." she whispered. she hugged him as though it was the last time she would see him. walker released out a sigh, hugging her a little tighter if possible.
"bye, aurora."
at that, he slowly pulled away, forcing a small grin onto his lips before turning and slowly dragging his bag toward the building. Aurora watched him slowly stride forward, not caring for her mother's prying eyes in the drivers seat.

Aurora felt her phone practically slipping from her grasp as her hands grew sweaty. her eyes were wide as she watched walkers chats roll in, it was clear that he had accidentally texted the wrong group chat.
was this real? she glanced around for a moment, expecting to find the cameras rolling on her. she had been sitting in her car, waiting for the airport traffic to fizzle out so they could begin their journey home.
inside, walker had been waiting near the check in area when he had sent those messages. once he had, his heart dropped. she knows. she had seen the messages and he hadn't even been able to tell her in person. he felt like an idiot. he bit the inside of his cheek, contemplating his decision before quickly grabbing his bag and heading for the exit of the building. his ocean blue eyes searched for the familiar vehicles and once his eyes landed on it, he immediately met with auroras brown ones.
what is he doing? her eyes were wide in shock as she watched him stand there, curls slightly out of place? chest heaving and his cheeks flushed. she hadn't even realized that she had pushed the car door open and began taking small steps toward him.
the boy matched her pace and he began to ramble before she was even within earshot.
"rora, i'm sorry. i know i shouldn't have waited this long. i didn't wanna tell you over the phone, but iâ"
"shut up."
before he knew it her soft lips were on his, manicured fingers placed on the nape of his neck. walker was seeing stars, frozen in shock before his hands cupped her cheek and he began to return her affection.
Aurora could feel her heart thumping against her chest, cheeks hot as their lips pressed against each others. his lips were softer than anything she's ever known, it was like biting into cotton candy, like melting and floating and being weightless in water. its sweet, so effortlessly sweet.
she tried her best to not let her knees buckle beneath her. she slowly pulled away, feeling a bit dizzy. walker rested his forehead against hers, a small grin pulling on his lips.
"so, you like me?"
Aurora snorted, tucking a strand of hair behind her pierced ear.
"eh, just a bit."
"i knew it." he mumbled, but she heard him. her cheeks were aching from smiling so much.
"oh, did you?" she tilted her head and went along with his antics. there was a moment of comfortable silence between the two of them before he hummed before glancing at the time on his phone.
"i gottaâ look, i gotta go, or im gonna miss my flight." he grimaced, tone falling a bit at his own words. she could only nod.
"okay, that's okay." she blinked. did that really just happen?
"call me? please? you can call me anytime you want." he rushed out. she quickly nodded.
"okay, a-anytime? are you sureâ"
"i want you to call me even when you have nothing to say." he finished, fingers fiddling with her dark strands of hair.
her heart was soaring at his words, but she couldn't bring herself to say anything, only wrapping her arms around him once more. she felt him place a gentle kiss to the side of her head, causing her to smile.
"okay." she mumbled.
"okay."
once they pulled away, he finally broke her gaze.
"goodbye, aurora."
