Aurora nervously stares at her phone, her thumb hovering over the 'accept' button. she had never spoken to Walker over the phone before. what if it was painfully awkward? she grimaced at the thought of them sitting in silence, unknowing of what to say. Aurora shook her head, brushing away her worries before accepting his call.
she quickly shielded her face from the screen, her cheeks growing warm at the sight of his light brown curls. he stared at the camera with a small, curious grin, waiting for her to show her face. Aurora said nothing as she slowly crept into the frame, the both of them letting out a series of light chuckles.
"hi Walker." Aurora smiled.
"hi rora." her stomach fluttered at the sound of her name falling from his lips.
is this real? she thought to herself.
Aurora noticed Walker frown and squint his eyes a bit, "what?" she tilted her head.
"what are you making?" he questioned.
"oh," she suddenly grew sheepish, tucking a strand of brown hair behind her pierced ear, "well, i-i was making toast, but i accidentally burnt it. then, i started to make ramen, but i spilt them all over the floor, so... now im having cheese and crackers."
Aurora finished with a large grin, shoving a cracker into her mouth before flashing a thumbs up. Walker chuckled at her words, and Auroras face lit up at the sound.
"there's no way you fumbled a midnight snack that hard. you didn't wake your parents up?" walker asked, though, he felt his stomach drop at his own question. the last thing he wanted to do was offend her by bringing up her parents, as he didn't know anything about her relationship with them. thankfully, all she did was shake her head.
"nope. my parents are out of town, so i'm home alone. thank god."
"oh really? for how long?" Walker tilts his head, and Aurora stifles a smile at the action. she could feel her fingers grow all tingly. apparently she hadn't yet wrapped her head around the fact that she was actually face timing walker scobell.
"just three days. might throw a party tomorrow, it's pretty lit." Aurora jokingly stuck her tongue out, causing Walker to snort.
"there's actually no way you just said that."
her face grew red, and she suddenly wished she could rewind time. she didn't want to scare him off just yet.
"sorry. i don't know why i said that." she grimaced. walker ran his fingers through his curls.
"i don't mind."
the two had begun to ramble on, speaking on random topics for what felt like hours. glancing at the clock, it was now three in the morning. by now, Aurora had made her way to the couch, and she was sprawled out in the furniture. her hair rested wildly over a throw pillow whilst she stifled a yawn.
"what are you up to?" her words came out as a bit of a mumble.
"talking to you." he replied without missing a beat. aurora rolled her eyes, unable to hide the dimples that pressed into her soft cheeks.
"stop it." heat crawled up her neck.
"stop what?"
"stop that." she slurred out, a wave of exhaustion suddenly creeping through her. walker narrows his eyes.
"you're tired." he states. Aurora quickly shakes her head, perfectly plucked eyebrows rising slightly.
"no, i'm not."
"yes, you are. go to sleep, aurora."
she can feel her stomach flutter at the way he says her name, and she rolls her bottom lip in between her teeth, gnawing on the skin.
"i'm awake, i swearâ" she didn't want this to end. when would she talk to him next? to be honest, aurora still wasn't exactly convinced that this was real.
"sleep. i'll still be here when you wake up." he smiles softly.
"do you promise?" Aurora can't bite back the words that escape her lips. Walker nearly chuckles.
"i promise."
at that, Aurora nods, laying her phone flat on the couch as she turns to rest in her side. she breathed out a heavy sigh, quickly drifting focus as sleep threatened to take over.
"okay," she mumbled. "g'night, walker."
Aurora eyelids drooped heavily, and it wasn't long before she began to drift off into a deep slumber.
"goodnight, rora."
