Amelia stood at the edge of the forest, her breath clouding in the cold, pre-dawn air. The sun hadn’t yet graced the sky, leaving the dense woods draped in darkness. Shadows shifted between the towering trees, and the faint rustling of leaves whispered warnings in the wind. She wrapped her arms around herself, a shiver of unease crawling up her spine. But retreat wasn’t an option. She was determined. Her feet, though hesitant, carried her forward as she took her first step into the ominous woods. Each step made the trees grow taller and the air colder. The forest seemed alive, branches stretching like skeletal arms, blocking out even the faintest traces of light. Is it possible for someone to live here? Amelia wondered, her thoughts loud in the eerie silence. Was he telling the truth? What if he lied? She shook her head, determined to push past her doubts. “I need to find his house first,” she muttered under her breath.Amelia combed through the surrounding area, her eyes scanning every shadow, every nook. But there was nothing—no path, no shelter—just the endless maze of trees. Her anxiety deepened, fear coursing through her veins like ice. Maybe he lied. Maybe this was all a mistake.Exhausted, she sank onto a fallen tree trunk, her heart pounding as her surroundings pressed in on her. Tears prickled her eyes, but she swallowed them back. That’s when she felt it—a presence beside her.She whipped her head around, her breath catching in her throat. There he was.“Ivar!” she gasped, her voice shaky. “How did you get here? I didn’t hear you coming.”He sat beside her, his posture calm, his gaze intense. “My lady,” he said smoothly, his deep voice resonating in the stillness. “Why are you looking for me?”Amelia scowled. “I wasn’t looking for you! I was looking for your house.”“Does that make a difference?” he asked, his lips curving into a faint smile.“Yes, it does,” she snapped. “You lied to me. You don’t live here, do you?”Ivar tilted his head, his eyes gleaming with amusement. “Yes, my lady, I live here, just as I told you.”“Don’t lie,” she said firmly, her frustration bubbling over. “I searched everywhere. There’s no house here!”To her annoyance, he chuckled—a rich, velvety sound that sent a strange shiver through her. “But why are you so determined to find my house, my lady?”“Stop calling me that!” she blurted, her cheeks heating. “No lady would do what I did.”Ivar leaned forward slightly, his expression softening with curiosity. “And what did you do, Amelia?”Amelia drew in a shaky breath, her words coming out unsteady but determined. “I ran away from my house,” she admitted, her gaze darting toward the dark forest floor.Ivar’s eyes widened, his expression a mixture of curiosity and disbelief. “You ran away from home?” he asked, his voice tinged with incredulity. “And you came to me? That doesn’t make any sense.”“Yes, it doesn’t,” Amelia replied, her voice trembling as frustration bubbled to the surface. "I suppose I'm just someone whose mind has hit rock bottom — that's why."Ivar studied her carefully, his piercing gaze seeming to unravel her emotions. “Let me take you back home,” he said finally, his tone softer now.“No,” Amelia said quickly, shaking her head. “I can’t go back. If I do, they’ll take me straight to the Gravel family’s house. They’re trying to force me into marrying their son.” Her voice broke slightly, but she steadied herself. “Where’s your house? I’ll stay there for a bit and leave in the evening. Will you let me?”Ivar leaned back slightly, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “You’re a naive girl,” he teased,  “How can you trust me so easily? You shouldn’t trust a man you barely know.”Amelia stiffened at his words, her irritation flickering in her eyes. “I know you,” she said firmly. “You… seem like a nice person.”He tilted his head slightly, his expression growing mischievous. “Seemed,” he repeated, as though testing the word. Slowly, he leaned closer, his gaze dropping to her lips. “Really, Amelia? What if I told you that you only see what I allow You to see?”Her breath caught in her throat, and she scrambled to her feet, putting distance between them. “What are you trying to say, Ivar?” she demanded, though her voice betrayed her nervousness.Ivar straightened, his movements deliberate as he took a step toward her. His smirk softened into something more enigmatic, his eyes dark and unreadable. “I’m saying,” he began, his voice low, “that there’s more to me than you think. And maybe… it’s time I show you who I really am.”Amelia instinctively backed away, her pulse quickening as a cold breeze swept through the forest. The atmosphere felt charged, as if the very trees were holding their breath. He stopped advancing, his gaze locking onto hers. “Are you scared, Amelia?”“No,” she said firmly, though the tightness in her voice hinted otherwise.Ivar’s smirk returned, this time with a dangerous edge. “Good. Then come with me… will you?”Amelia hesitated, her body tense. The way he was acting now was completely different from before—his teasing demeanor replaced by something darker, something that felt like a challenge. She couldn’t answer, her mind racing with questions she didn’t dare ask aloud. He extended his hand toward her, the gesture both inviting and ominous. “If you take my hand, you’ll enter a world you cannot escape. But if you turn back now, you’ll never see me again. The choice is yours, Amelia. Will you return to the life you ran from… or will you step into mine?”Amelia froze, her breath caught between fear and intrigue. The forest seemed to hold its breath, the weight of the moment pressing down on her. She stared at his outstretched hand, her mind was racing.
