|HIGH SCHOOL|
LAYING IN BED on a Thursday night, watching old reruns of Bad Girls Club seemed to be top ten on Kenji's list.
Her body was sprawled out on her bed, staring absentmindedly at the mounted 55' inch TV. She was currently binging the best season of the show, season sixteen.
"If I was Kailee you would've hit me already!" Persuasion exclaimed, mushing Winter harshly
"Nah deadass." Kenji agreed as if the reality TV stars could hear her
Feeling her Iphone vibrate with a notification, hands instantly picking it up and holding it above her face.
"He is so unreal." She mumbled, squinting at Sekani's confusing text
Kenji simpy ignored her annoying younger brother with a shake of her head, shutting off the Iphone and placing it down once again.
As soon as it reached her pillow, it rung with another notification. Her face contouring into irritation as she looked at it with furrowed eyebrows.

come outside.
Clicking the message, knowing as though that action would quickly be regretted in about five minutes.
Come outside.
How could two small, measly words make her feel so many emotions at once? These same emotions that Kenji thought she'd hidden away when she was younger.
The girl wasn't stupid, recognizing the contact from middle school, per the cringey ass emojis. She just hadn't received a text from that number for years, even going as far as to forgetting it existed.
Nonetheless, her fingers still hovered over the keyboard, wanting to respond politely. So she did, typing out and sending three words.
siahðððððð
come outside.
Who is this ?
ghost.
What do you want???
come see.
Undoubtedly, the girl peeped out of her window, face scrunched at the boy leaning on a car across the street, uninterested in everything around him.
Like magic, his eyes immediately shifted to hers, piercing through every defense mechanism she had left, puncturing every brain cell that yelled at her to ignore the text.
Kenji sighed, quickly throwing on an oversized yet worn out grey hoodie "This don't make no damn sense." She mumbled, slipping on her favorite pair of crocs
Heading out of her room into the quiet dimly lit hallway and down the wooden stairs, she silently prayed her dad wasn't awake.
"Dad." Kenji spoke, peaking into the living room sneakily "You woke?"
With the couch facing her, she couldn't see anything but the back of Eddie's head and he looked to be asleep, laid out on the recliner with a beer in his slumped over hand plus the loud snoring that left his mouth every-so-often.
Ghost glanced up, resisting a smirk at the annoyed girl trudging out of her front door with a frown on her face.
"Wassup." He greeted her, ruffling his hair
"Boy kiss my ass." Kenji neared him, attitude clear in her voice "Do you know what time it is?"
"Yeah, two thirty four." Ghost shrugged dully "Obviously."
"I could've been asleep."
"Well you weren't." He raised an eyebrow, glancing down at his shoes
"Okay, well I was about to." She rolled her neck at him, crossing her arms over her chest sassily
He hummed, acknowledging her answer "We're going swimming."
Her eyes immediately flickered to his, confusion written all over her face before it clicked. He's drunk.
"You haven't spoken to me since seventh grade then all of a sudden you appear outside my damn house, telling me what to do!" She pressed, poking his chest harshly with her naturally long nails
"And not only do you show up! My nigga you show up drunk off your ass!" She wasn't lying, well kinda.
Ghost didn't drink often, even when he did, it wasn't possible for him to be 'drunk off his ass'. He could handle his alcohol incredibly well.
"I'm not even drunk." He answered with a frown "I only had two shots."
Kenji rolled her eyes, he was right so she just ignored it "Why do you decide to acknowledge me now? Two O'clock in the morning might I add, wanting to go swimming?"
"I always acknowledge you."
"We haven't had a full conversation since you moved."
"I apologize. I never had the courage to just walk up to you after so long but this liquor got me feelin' a lil bold ." Ghost shrugged with a straight face "Now lets go swimming."
"Is you asking me or telling me? And no pools are even open stupid."
"Don't worry about that." Ghost retorted quickly, staring deeply in her eyes "Just come with me for tonight... please."
Kenji felt her knees weaken at the way his voice deepened when he spoke, she sighed loudly before nodding and trudging to the passenger side of the car.
"Don't make me regret this and you better have me back home before my dad wakes up to go to work." She demanded
"I gotchu."
-
The car was deathly silent, so silent that Kenji felt as though he could hear how fast and loud her heart was beating, she knew she'd regret this.
Ghost on the other hand didn't seem to notice the tension or maybe he simply didn't care. From the corner of his eye, he could see the girl chewing on her lips, something he knew she only did out of nervousness.
So with a quiet chuckle, he smoothly turned the volume up on the radio.
"Now we taking it all the way back to 2011 with Party by Beyonce and J.Cole!"
As the beat began, Ghost cleared his throat "This still your favorite song?"
Kenji smiled, shaking her head "Nah. Its still top five though."
"Whats number one?" He asked with furrowed eyebrows "You used to adore this song."
Twisting her lips to the side as she thought hard on this topic. Kenji loved many different forms of music, it would be difficult to choose just one.
"The worst, Jhene Aiko." She finally answered "What about you?"
"For me, it would probably have to be Power Trip with J.Cole and Miguel." He shrugged, gripping the steering wheel
Kenji smiled proudly "Okayyy. I lowkey didn't expect you to say such a good, classic song like that."
"What? You think I got bad taste or 'sumn?" He smirked, glancing over at her
so in love
i'll give it all away
just don't tell nobody tomorrow
"Nah. I assumed you were more into drill music."
"I do fuck wit' drill but it's not the only genre I listen to." Ghost voiced, running his tongue over his bottom lip
As the two of them pulled into the driveway of a huge brick house, Kenji couldn't help but to gawk at it.
"This your crib?" She squinted, bringing her face closer to the windshield in hopes of seeing more details of the home
Ghost's hooded eyes dragged over to the girl in the passenger seat boringly "Hell naw."
"What..." Kenji trailed off, quickly looking at him with a scrunched face "I know damn well we ain't finna break in somebody backyard just to swim in their pool."
And that is exactly what they were going to do.
"How the fuck are we gonna break the lock?"
Raising an eyebrow, he quietly mumbled "We don't need to."
"Then how-" She paused mid-sentence, watching as he simply climbed over the tall fence "Oh hell no. You got me fucked up, I'm too damn big to be doing that."
Ghost sucked his teeth, rolling his eyes "Bring your ass, Akina."
Kenji face scrunched at the use of her middle name "Fine." She complied "But I don't want you to watch so turn around."
Slapping his palm against his forehead, Ghost did as told with a long, exaggerated sigh.
The brown skinned girl began planting both hands on the fence, placing her foot in one of the metal holes for balance.
Once lifted onto the gate, she inhaled deeply before deciding to just hop down onto the ground, which worked in her favor.
"That was pretty easy." Kenji concluded, looking up at her old friend
"I thought your ass was gonna fall off." Ghost joked, walking towards the pool
Her face scrunched distastefully at the comment "Bitch." She whispered, following behind him
The two teenagers stood at the pool, looking inside the raging blue water, it was so clean they could almost see their reflection.
"What now?" Kenji asked, eyebrows furrowing
When she didn't receive an answer, she looked beside her and Ghost was silently taking off his shirt, revealing a heavily tattooed chest with a six pack and a v-line that traveled lowly.
"My eyes are up here, Peaches." He raised an eyebrow, slipping his pants down unapologetically
Kenji slowly blinked at him "Nigga you the one that started randomly taking off your clothes."
"You expect me to swim with them on?" He asked rhetorically, stepping into the pool "Your turn."
With a irritated huff, the girl mumbled "Face the other way."
Ghost hummed, turning around and listening to the sound of her clothes being taken off and dropped to the floor.
The freezing tile against her feet made Kenji more nervous than she already was. She'd always been somewhat, confident in her body but his presence erased that feeling.
"Don't stare, okay?"
"I'll try not to." He whispered to himself, still giving her a stern nod
"You can turn around now."
He faced her again, eyes widening as they traveled up and down her body "Oh damn." He whispered
She stood there awkwardly, rubbing up and down her arms, covering her breasts "You said you wouldn't stare." Kenji frowned
Ghost choked, licking his lips mindlessly "My bad. You just look good."
That made her smile and her heart beat fasten with a small giggle as she slowly dipped inside of the cold water
"Shit." Kenji shivered, trying to get accustomed to the feeling
"Its not even that cold." Ghost dead-panned
"Of course you would think so."
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
Kenji giggled at his facial expression "You always so frowned up, needa' smile more."
"I'm not even frowning?" He said, which sounded more like a question than a statement
"Yes you are."
"No I'm not. This is deadass my natural face."
Kenji raised an eyebrow "Your lips are literally turned upside down right now. You look like a sad puppy."
A quiet chuckle erupted from Ghost's throat as he shook his head "Right." Sarcasm laced in his tone
Suddenly, an idea came to Kenji with mischievous intentions.
Smiling at him innocently, she didn't hesitate before splashing water directly in his face.
"Akina." He huffed dangerously, watching as she quickly swam away to the other end of the pool while laughing evilly
Before Ghost could chase after her, the lights upon the front porch illuminated, sending chills through out both teenagers bodies.
"Oh shit."
"Oh shit..."
"Who the fuck are you two and what are you doing in my pool?"
A light-skinned boy stood at the sliding glass doors with confusion written all over his face, he'd never witnessed anything like this before.
Ghost slowly blinked, dragging his eyes over to Kenji, whom physically looked as though she was about to explode on the inside.
"...Who are you?" He questioned
"My name is Reece-" The boy said before pausing abruptly "Why the hell am I answering you? Nigga you're in my pool!"
When he didn't receive a response, Reece's eyebrows furrowed at the silence. This was when he took a closer look at the two, recognizing one of them immediately.
"Ghost?"
Sighing while dragging a hand down his face, Ghost cursed his entire existence in this very moment.
"Aww well, this reunion is cute and all but Josiah take me home, now." Kenji spoke aloud with a small yet awkward smile
"What the fuck is going on right now yo?"
