As startled as I was with whatever was happening, I was also completely dumbstruck at the sudden question.
"N-No! You must know, I'm blind." I could hardly hold back my nervousness.
I continued pretending looking somewhere else and talking to him.
And I knew already that I was a loser at lying.
"Don't lie and stop pretending. You were fine," He said. "Yet."
He was looking at me, with a frown plastered on his face.
I stayed silent, not knowing what to say. For I knew, he would easily catch my lie.
"Say it," he raised an eyebrow.
And as he started heading closer, I had no idea what I should so. And contrary to my willing, my face turned pale.
"Y-y-Yes! I can see you, okay?" I blurted out. "Since the day we met in lawn, I could see you. And I just have no idea how this became possible, but you are the only thing I can see."
His eyes widened as I answered, and his brows creased, as if he was trying to understand whatever I was saying.
"Have you ever seen yourself?" He asked.
What kind of a question is that?
Seeing that I couldn't lie anymore, he took his chance but this time, his tone was softer than usual.
"What?" Not finding some words to reply, I shot a question back at him.
"I asked, DID. YOU. EVER. SEE. YOURSELF?" He said, loudly.
"Hey, watch it. I'm blind, not deaf!" I really couldn't answer so I just tried to change the subject.
"Answer what I asked."
"Any concerns?" I folded my arms and shrugged, probably not willing to answer.
He rolled his eyes as if he wants to say "were you born stupid or does it come naturally." Good thing he didn't say it out loud.
Anyhow, I think if he wanted to say it, he would be right. I've been acting and talking stupid in front of him.
"Now are you planning to take me back home or you wanna have a sleepover with the monkeys?" I asked in monotone.
"We're heading back." He turned around and signalled me to follow him.
"Just wait!" I stopped him. "Why did you save me?"
"Whoa! How can you expect an answer from me after denying my question?"
I bet this guy is insane!
"Your question was useless. It had nothing to do with you-"
"It did," he cut me off.
The conversation was being carried on as we started walking.
I could walk without taking help here, by following his back.
"How come?"
"That why you can see me? If you really had to see someone, then why not yourself, or your parents. Why did it have to be no one else but me-" He stopped in mid-sentence. "Wait, are you even blind?"
"Is that the reason why you dragged me out of your house and into this jungle?"
"No! Those people were about to kill you. That's why I dragged you out of the room. You were in trouble."
I hoped this was the answer to my question.
"By the way, what's your name?" He asked as we continued walking.
"Medusa!"
"WHAT?!"
"I said its Sarah, yours?"
"Trevor!"
After hearing his name, a question popped in my mind.
"Hey, Are you Dr. Scofield's son." I asked.
"Yes."
"Weren't you suppose to be on a trip, the day we met in lawn."
And for the first time, I saw his face turn slightly pale.
He immediately turned in my direction and asked, "How do you know?"
"I asked my Dad about who lives in Dr. Scofield's home and he told me then." I said and saw his face turn even paler when I said 'my dad'
"Your Dad thinks a lot about me," he muttered under his breath. It could've been hard for anyone but me to hear.
"What?" I asked raising my eyebrow.
"Nothing. So, how did you turn blind?" He questioned, as if feeling awkward due to the previous conversation.
"How do you know I'm blind?"
"My Dad told me about it. I just asked about it yesterday when you were here with your father. Before that lawn incident."
Well, he sure doesn't want to create any misunderstanding. However, it's weird how we both got to know about each other by our fathers.
We continued walking but soon, I felt something.
I stopped in a second upon realizing that there were some humans, coming towards us.
"Hey, move on, girl." Trevor turned around and looked at me.
"What happened?" He asked.
"I think someone is behind us," I replied.
"What? There's no one around. Come on. Let's go. Don't waste time." He grabbed my hand but I pulled it back.
I was still paying attention to the steps that were heading closer.
"How many men were they?" I asked, staying where I stood.
"What?"
"I said how many men were after us?" I heard myself a bit louder this time.
"Two."
And then, from a distance, a bullet was shot.
Trevor grabbed my hand and pulled me along with him, running.
"Wha-" I was about to say something when Trevor held me tight and tied his hand around my mouth, pulling me behind something, which was a tree, I assumed.
His touch, even in all of the chaos, led to weird feeling all the way through my gut. I wonder how something can be so effective.
"These are the same people who were following us. They found us." He whispered.
"Mmm-nmmm,"
Upon realizing that I couldn't breathe properly, he discreetly removed his hand from my mouth.
"Stay quiet now," he whispered.
A shiver ran down my spine as I felt a few people pass nearby.
And as they did, I wondered how my utterly undramatic life turned so dramatic in one freaking week.
I dream for the first time in my life and on the very next day, I see the first creature of my life. Then, just a few days later, some people plan on killing me at an eye specialist's home and his son, who is the first person I've seen in life, saves me.
"Oh, shit!" He mumbled, as his alarm clock started ringing.
I felt a few steps that were continuing their safe walk, turn back with a jerk.
Trevor reached for my arm and shouted.
"Sarah, Run!"
I complied.
As I we ran, I could still feel our followers behind us. Each of their steps frightening me.
My heart pumped so hard at this moment that I feared it might jump out of my chest the next second.
After shooting several times, they stopped. And I assumed they were shirt of bullets.
"When I say jump, then jump!" Trevor said between his breaths.
"Okay," I nodded.
"Now, JUMP!"
And as we jumped, I could feel we fell in a huge hole.
