"Well here's your chance," I told him as I pulled him in their direction. As we neared, I heard his heartbeat increase.
"Hey guys," I greeted as we sat across from them. They stopped talking and faced us.
Jake opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, the girl spoke. "Mate."
Her eyes widened after she said the word as her brother looked at her in shock. Lio and I mirrored Jake's shock.
"I thought you were human?" Is the first thing that Lio said. I jabbed him in the ribs and glared at him. "I mean, yes we're mates."
The girl chuckled nervously. "I've grown up surrounded by humans. It's why my scent is so faint."
Lio looked at me, not sure what to say next. I stood up and signaled for Jake to do the same. "We're gonna go and let y'all figure it out."
Jake and I walked across the room and sat on another couch. "So what do you think is going to happen?" Jake asked, glancing at his sister.
"Well you're sister can either reject him or accept him," I replied, opening my book to the right page.
"Why do you say it like that? Can't your brother do the same?"
I looked up at him, then glanced at my brother. "Yeah, but he's not going too."
Jake opened his textbook and we began working on our assignment. An hour later, my phone began to ring. I pulled it out, and Roman's name was flashing on the screen.
I looked up at Jake as I stood up. "Excuse me. I'll be right back," I told him, and walked outside. I answered the call, bringing the phone up to my ear.
"Hello."
"Hello, Alpha Camila. How are you doing?"
I'm doing good. How are you?"
"I'm well, and how is Alpha Sharp's pack settling in?"
"They're doing alright, but most are eager to get back home."
"Well, that's what I wanted to talk to you about. We've done an investigation and it appears that he has been a good alpha to his pack, however he's too power driven leading to few allies. And his recent behavior has not been to the standard."
"What's the verdict?"
"Well, that's the problem. We know that he's keeping the position, but we don't know what consequence to give out. He appears to be remorseful, however I don't know him enough to tell if he's faking."
"What's my role in this?" I asked, frowning.
"I'd like you to come out here, see the situation for yourself, and help us come up with a consequence."
I sighed and rubbed my forehead. "Isn't that what your team is for?"
"Yes, but..." he hesitated for a moment. "We're at a loss."
I couldn't refuse a request from the king.
"I'll go, but I can't leave today. I'm signing a treaty with the neighboring pack."
"Understandable. I'll see you tomorrow, then?"
"Yes."
We said our goodbyes and I entered the cafe again. "Where were we?" I asked as I reached Jake.
"Is it okay if we finish for today?" He asked.
"Sure," I replied and we packed up. We walked over to our siblings, finding them in deep conversation. "Lio," I called to get his attention.
They both looked up at us surprised. "We're done. Are you coming or staying?"
He glanced at the girl before looking at me again. "I'll stay for a little bit longer."
I grabbed the keys from my pocket and tossed them to him. "Don't lose track of time."
He catches the keys, looking at them confused. "How are you getting home?" I gave him a look and understanding dawned on him. "Oh."
I turned to look at the girl asking my brother, "Aren't you going to introduce me?"
He smiled sheepishly. "Ariana meet my sister, Camila. Camila meet my mate, Ariana."
I smiled at her and reached my hand out. "Nice to meet you."
She smiled nervously as she returned the handshake. "You too."
"Well, I have to go."
I got a chorus of byes as I turned to go.
I walked into the forest before shifting into my wolf. I shook my fur out and ran to the pack house. I shifted back, clothes in tact and went to find Zack.
I found him outside, setting tables. "Hey, what's the update." I asked, as I grabbed a foldable table and opened it.
"Everything is running smoothly and on time. We've got everything set up and all we need to do is cook."
I looked around and he was, indeed, right. Most tables were set up and the stage had been cleaned. Multiple pack members were walking around and helping. "Thank you," I told Zach.
"Just doing my job."
After finishing outside, I went to the kitchen where our packs top chefs were taking out ingredients.
"What are we making and how can I help?"
They all stopped what they were doing and bowed their heads. "Alpha."
Jason, the head chef was the one to reply. "We're making chicken with a creamy sauce and cheese on top along with a creamy pasta." He walked around taking out saucepans and a blender. "You can help by cooking the pasta. Alice can give you directions." I nodded and walked over to Alice in the huge kitchen.
A long hour later, the food was ready, and I was in my office with my cousins. Three copies of the treaty in front of us. We agree to help in times of need and against enemies was basically what the whole treaty said.
"So, are we signing?" Alv asked Martinez and I with a smile. In reply, Martinez and I signed our names on the papers. "Okay, then," Alv muttered and signed his paper.
"Now that that's done, can we go eat. I'm hungry," Martinez whined. Alv and I laughed as we stood up.
"Let's go," I said. Walking out the front door, I saw most pack members by the stage and tables. As soon as we stepped on to the stage, their attention diverted to us.
"We signed the treaty," I announced and the pack cheered. I gestured towards the food table on the left. "Everyone is welcomes to grab some food."
Pack members stood up and made line for food, as I walked over to Zach's table. Martinez and Alv followed behind me. We sat and made small talk with with everyone at the table, including Lio and my parents. After everyone had gotten dinner, we stood up and went to the food table.
After our table had finished eating, I decided to tell them the news. "I'm traveling tomorrow to Sharp's pack."
Everyone stopped talking and looked at me. "Why?" My mom asked.
"They're not sure what consequence to give, however they do know he's keeping the position. I'm going over to advise."
"How long you going for?" Zach asked, with a small frown.
"I don't know, but don't worry. You can take care of the pack.
The next morning, I drove to Alv's pack. The guards at the border recognized me and let me through. I drove the short path to the pack house and entered the loud environment. I followed the loud noises to the dining room where most of the warriors seemed to be. They all froze in their actions and turned to me. As they bowed their heads, Eli stood up and walked over to me. His 6' foot frame envelope my 5'5 frame.
"Hey, you came," he whispered.
"I told you I would, didn't I?" I asked smiling.
He smiled back at me. "Do you want breakfast?" He gestured to the large amounts of food on the table.
"I already ate. I just came to say goodbye."
He grabbed my hand and led me to the living room. "How long are you going to be gone?"
"I don't know. I could be back tomorrow or next week."
He pouted causing me to laugh. "I'm gonna miss you."
I hugged him. "I'm gonna miss you too."
"Can I be honest?" He asked, pulling back. I nodded and he continued. "I feel a little uneasy that you're going to see him, especially since he wants you back." He looked at me nervously when he finished speaking.
I grabbed his hand and squeezed it. "I don't care if he wants me back, I'm only interested in you," I told him looking up at him.
He stared at me for a moment and grinned.
He, then, leaned down and kissed me.
