"What are you talking about?" I replied.
"You aura appears stronger than ours and every other Alpha we've met," Alpha Alvarez inputed.
I shrugged and drifted the conversation over to the names of their packs. Alpha Alvarez pack was the Red Thorn Pack, while Alpha Martinez led the Black Thorn Pack. Most Texan Packs had Thorn in the name.
"You replaced the previous Alpha of the Rose Thorn Pack, correct?" I nodded and he continued. "Our packs had an alliance and we'd be open to continuing it with you."
"As long as we observe the way you run your pack. We want to insure you are a suitable leader to make a treaty with," Alpha Alvarez interrupted.
I thought about their offer. "As long as I observe your packs as well." They shared a glance before nodding at me. "Great. How does coming over the day after tomorrow sound?" They, again, glanced at each other before nodding at me. We exchanged numbers before parting ways.
I continued searching for books but a mind link from Lio interrupted me. Hey Cami, come home. Y apurale.
Why? What's going on?
It's a surprise! But a good one!
Lio!
Just get home, Cami. And hurry!
I quickly checked out a book and rushed home. I unlocked my door and caught a familiar scent. I rushed to the living room and abruptly stopped.
Mom stood up and rushed to hug me.
"I missed you," she whispered.
"Yo también, mamá." I answered.
She let me go and embraced my brother.
"Is everything okay? You said you weren't coming until Papá's birthday."
"I just have some news. I figured it'd be best to tell you in person." She said, sitting down.
Lio and I sat across from her. "What's wrong?"
She took a deep breath. "You're mate has found out that you're now an Alpha. He forced your father and I to confess yesterday. He wanted to make sure you were suffering. " She looked up at me. "I'm sorry."
I grabbed her hands in mine. "Mamá, you have nothing to apologize for. You can't fight an Alpha demand."
She nodded and continued. "Darius has been telling the pack that he is going in search of his mate, but the gamma told us he's coming to win you back. He wants to merge packs to become more powerful." A frown was etched on her forehead.
"Ma, no te preocupes. He can't get past border lines and there's no way I'm giving him a chance."
Her face relaxed and a smile appeared. "That's good," She said, patting my hand. I turned to Lio and saw his hands fisted and his whole body shaking.
I put my hand on his shoulder. "Hey, it's okay. He can't hurt me."
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "I know, it's just that the mere mention of his name makes me seethe."
I couldn't help but agree.
"Do you know when he's leaving?"
"Sometime next week," mom replied.
"Okay, well, we'll deal with that when the time comes. Let's go have dinner, yeah?" I said, standing up. They got up nodding and we headed towards the kitchen.
Mom left the next morning. She wanted to get back before Darius noticed she was gone. She was also missing my dad. After saying goodbye, Lio and Zach went to class..
While they were gone, I decided to train with the warriors. They had improved immensely since the beginning of the summer. After loads of paperwork and online classes, I called for a meeting with the pack and informed them of the Alphas' visit. We spent the rest of the day along with the next cleaning.
They were punctual. We agreed to meet at my pack border at nine and that's exactly when they arrived, each with a body guard.
"Good morning, Alpha Alvarez and Alpha Martinez. Welcome to my pack." I nodded at the body guards in greeting, one of them catching my eye. The guy on Alpha Alvarez side. He also caught my wolf's attention, although I do not know why. He appeared to be an average warrior wolf, just like the one next to Alpha Martinez. I focused my attention back on the Alphas.
"We're glad to be here. What's first?" replied Alpha Martinez.
I showed them the pack grounds and they met the pack leadership. Everything was going smoothly until...
Alpha, we have a situation at the border. Malcolm mind linked.
What's going on?
Alpha Darius Sharp is at the border requesting to see you.
Wasn't he coming next week? What is he doing here?
Tell him he is not welcomed here. I have nothing to say to him anymore.
After a few moments, I was mind linked again. Alpha, he is refusing to leave.
I sighed. I will be there in a moment.
"Is everything alright?" Alpha Alvarez asked. I turned to him and realized we had stopped walking.
"Yes, I just have a small situation at the border. Will y'all excuse me for a moment? Beta Zach can show y'all where we will have lunch." I looked at Zach and he nodded in agreement.
"As possible alliances, Martinez and I would like to assist in the situation?" Alpha Alvarez rebuted.
Well, then.
How can I refuse and risk breaking their forming trust in my pack? I am, however, entitled to privacy in my personal matters. If we were alliances, they would at some point find out I was rejected. The question would come up after a while of seeing me without a mate. Why delay the inevitable.
"The situation has to do with my ex-mate. I haven't seen him since I left my pack and I'm not sure how this is going to go. Are y'all sure?"
They, once again, shared a look before Alpha Martinez spoke. "Why did he reject you?"
"I was apparently too weak to be his mate and Luna." I unintentionally rolled my eyes.
Alpha Alvarez smiled a little. "And now you're an Alpha."
"He probably wants you back now that you have a shiny new tittle."
"I wouldn't put it past him,"I headed in the direction of the woods and everyone followed me. As we neared the border, shouting could be heard.
"What is going on here?" I boomed.
Darius stopped mid-screaming and just stared at me. "Cami,"he whispered.
I glared at him. "It's Alpha Rodriguez to you."
He glanced behind me at the two Alphas backing me up.
"Who are they?"He questioned. He was glaring at them and his tone came out biting.
"That's none of your business. What are you doing here?"
He glared a bit more before returning his stare at me. "I'm your mate."
As if that explained everything.
"You're not," I replied, crossing my arms.
He sighed and stared at the ground before looking at me. Regret was written all over his face. "Look, I know I made a mistake but I'm sorry. It was a mistake." He paused for a second. "I came here hoping you'd give me another chance."
It was silent for a moment before I burst out laughing. "Are you insane?!" He frowned at me, but I kept laughing, the Alphas and Zach laughing along with me. Darius frowned at us. "We're not mates, Darius. You broke the bond when you rejected me. So, turn around and go back to your pack."
He took a step closer to the pack borders. "Just think about it. If you took me back, we could be so powerful and great together."
I glanced at my watch and looked back at him. "It took you five minutes to reveal your true colors. Your acting skills need work?"
He frowned. "What?"
"C'mon, Darius. We all know you're just power hungry. You don't care about me. You just want my pack."
"That's not true. I love you," he stammered out.
"Like I said before, your acting skills need work. Now, I have a busy day and I'm done wasting time on you, so go."
"But-" I glared and he sighed defeated. We all watched him walk back to his warriors, who were out of earshot, and leave in a car.
I turned to face the Alphas. "Great job assisting, if you were going for the stand there and look intimidating angle."
They cracked a smile and we all headed back to the pack house. They did not ask questions about what just happen and I was grateful for that. We all had lunch together, joking around, and the rest of the day went smoothly.
"Whose pack are we going to next?"
