The room was completely silent as Chris picked up the frame and glanced between it and me. Just as he opened his mouth, a middle aged man walked in. He looked around the room before his eyes landed on Alv.
"Son, I was just looking for you. I wanted to introduce myself to our guest." He looked around once again, finally realizing the state everyone was in and the broken glass. He slowly walked over and studied the mess. "What happened?"
I was the first one to speak. "It was me, sir. I apologize." I looked from the man , to Alv, to Chris. If this man was their father and my mother was their aunt, was he my uncle?
"It's alright," the man replied as he carefully removed the picture from the frame and placed it on the table.
"Dad," Alv said, waiting to catch his father's attention before continuing. "She claims our aunt is her mother." Shock covered the mans features as he grabbed the picture again and looked between the picture and me.
"There are similarities. How old are you?" He appeared guarded, scared, and hopeful all at the same time.
"Eighteen."
"And she left nineteen years ago.The time line fits. " He continued to stare at me in shock before he burst into tears. He was full on sobbing, my heart broke for the man. He was obviously my sister's brother. After he calmed down, he looked at me and spoke. "How is your mother? We tried looking for her, but we couldn't. There was no trace of them left."
My stomach dropped as I realized I had to tell this man that his sister died. I took a deep, readying breath before I spoke. "I'm sorry to say that she died sixteen years ago." The man broke down in tears, again, and his sons went over to comfort him, as they too began to cry.
It was a while before the man stopped crying. He stared at me for a moment before he spoke. "My name is Jacob Alvarez, your mother's brother. What is your name?"
"Camila Rodriguez, sir." My hands began to feel clammy as the situation sinked in.
I was meeting my mother's brother. My uncle. I was finally able to learn more about her.
My heart dropped as I realized another startling fact.
My mother was an Alpha's daughter.
I knew that was a possibility, however I didn't think it was a likely one. How did she go from Alpha's daughter to pack warrior?
"There isn't much I know of my mother. From what I've gathered, they were very closed off in the pack. The only people they trusted were my adoptive parents. Could you tell me what she was like? What happened that caused her to move so far away from here?" My words came out rushed and went against every way and Alpha should act in another's pack, but I was so close to learning about my mother.
Jacob squeezed his eyes shut and took a deep breath. "Your mother was amazing. She cared deeply for everyone in the pack and managed to make everyone smile during hard times. She was stubborn, always speaking her mind. There wasn't a single person in this pack who wouldn't move mountains for her. She was sunshine personified." He took another breath as if preparing himself for what he was going to say next.
"She wasn't the eldest nor was she next in line to be alpha, so she was given the option to go to college. She took it, and on her fourth year, she met her mate. At the time, our pack strongly hated the Black Thorn Pack, and as it turned out, Belle's mate was the Alpha's middle son. Their fathers were strongly against the mating making it clear it was prohibited. Feeling as if there wasn't any other choice, they fled. We tried to find them, but their scent was washed away by the rain, and their names weren't recognized by the packs."
I took a moment to process the situation.
Both my parents were alphas. From disputing packs. And they ran away to be together.
That means I am a pure blooded alpha, and that explains the stronger aura.
So, my last name should actually be Martinez.
Camila Martinez.
"They changed their last name to Rodriguez and joined my old pack as warriors."
"That part doesn't surprise me. Your mother always had an interest in fighting. She led the women's training." He let out a small, sad smile at the memory. Focusing his attention on me, he spoke again. "Camila, I am so glad to meet you." He seemed nervous to say the next part. "I would be happy and so honored if you would let me be a part of your family."
"Don't forget about us. We're your cousins," Alv cut in.
"I second that," Chris spoke with a huge grin.
They were a part of my mother's family, and now they were a part of mine.
A big smile covered my face as I studied them. They genuinely seemed to want me in their lives. "Of course."
Without warning they pulled me close.
"Wait, is Lio also our cousin? Since he's your brother?" Chris asked.
"He is my brother, but not by blood," I responded.
"So, you were adopted?" My uncle asked.
"Yes, by the only couple they trusted. They have treated me like their own." A soft smile appeared on my face as I thought about the couple I also considered my parents.
They all appeared happy by my answer.
"And how did you end up here?" My uncle asked.
"I was a warrior at the Full Moon Pack, however I decided to leave when..." I hesitated to say the next part before deciding to rush it out. "I was rejected."
It was silence before the chaos.
Chris and my uncle jumped up from the couch and spoke at once.
"Who?!"
"How dare he?!"
"First and last name?"
"Who does he think he is?!"
"I've been itching for a fight."
The rest of the guys had already left, so they didn't hear most of the conversation.
"Guys!" They ignored me and continued to shout before I had enough and yelled.
Their eyes widened as their mouths shut. "Now that I have your attention, sit down." They did as I told. "Take deep breaths." Once they had calmed down enough to listen to reason, I spoke again.
"It's been months, guys. I'm over it, and honestly, he doesn't deserve our attention." They mulled over what I said, and Chris turned towards Alv.
"Why aren't you up and yelling?"
"I already knew." At their confused faces, he continued. "Her ex-mate showed up at her territory border the day I was invited. Y'all should have seen the way she handled it." A proud smile slipped onto his face.
I could practically see the gears turning in their minds and interrupted before they asked questions. "Story for another day, guys. I basically just told him I wouldn't accept him as my mate."
Before they could ask me anything else, my phone beeped with a text from Lio.
When will you be back?
Soon. Wait up for me, please?
Yep
I looked up from my phone to see them talking among themselves. "Well guys, I have to get back home." I looked at them before continuing. "There's still a lot we haven't talked about and a lot we don't know about each other, so how about we meet up this weekend?"
They agreed and I switched numbers with my cousins and uncle. Before I left, I received a hugs from my uncle and cousins.
The sun was long gone by the time I got home. I quietly opened the pack house door and tip toed to Lio's room. I barged in as quietly as possible and found Lio reading a book. A startled look cover his face as his head turned towards the door.
"Cami," he hissed. "Don't scare me like that!"
"Sorry, sorry." I replied, throwing my hands up.
"How was Chris' pack?"
I nervously sat on the edge of his bed. "I learned something new." He raised a brow, urging me to continue. "Chris is my cousin,"
I ended up blurting out.
Shock covered Lio's features. "What?"
"His father is my mother's brother." I went on to explain the whole story to him; his eyes widened the further along the story I went.
There was a moment of silence before he smiled. "I'm glad you finally found something out about her and a connection to her." He reaches out to hug me.
"I'm meeting them again this weekend and I want you to come with, considering you're a part of my family."
His smiles widened. "I would love to."
The next morning, I told Zach and Ryan who were just as shocked as Lio. After telling them, there was one last call to make to inform them.
The King's.
