We pull up to Club Toxic an hour before dawn. Frangelico approaches, wearing a tux and opera gloves. I would roll my eyes, but Sheridan is dressed to match, in a red dress thatâs all poofy and spreads out in a two-foot radius, rustling as she walks. Iâm gonna pull off all the frilly shit later, see if the bodice can survive without it. Her tits look amazing.
I clear my throat as the king approaches, flanked by two burly guys. I swallow, wondering if Grizz is working here now that itâs out heâs on their payroll. Iâll never admit how much it hurt to find out he was a traitor. My chest is tight just thinking about it. At least heâs not here now.
Frangelico snaps his fingers and his guards stop in their tracks, letting Frangelico close the distance between us alone.
âNo lieutenants this time?â I ask casually.
Frangelico shows his fangs, either smiling or threatening me. Probably both. âYou will find, wolf, that I am capable of defending myself.â
âNot tonight,â Sheridan declares. âWe donât want a fight.â
âVery well,â Lucius bows to her. She curtsies in return, and I roll my eyes. Stupid leeches, always going for this old-fashioned bullshit. I can tell the vampire king is eating it up, though, and step closer to Sheridan.
Lucius makes a show about glancing at the horizon. âPerhaps we can be about our business then. Dawn is close.â
âYeah,â I mutter under my breath. âWouldnât want you to end up fried.â
Sheridan elbows me in the side as she moves to her Mercedes.
âWe have something of yours.â Sheridan motions towards the trunk and waits for the vampire king to nod permission. Slowly, she pops it and steps away. Lucius takes two steps forward, angling his head. His face goes ultra blank when he sees whatâs inside.
âAh. Yes, that does belong to me. Tell me, wolf, how does my child end up in your trunk with a wooden stake in his chest?â
âHe was stalking me,â Sheridan tells him. âHe came to my house and tried to get in. Confessed to leaving the body on Fight Clubâs doorstep. Something about âkeeping the old waysâ and showing the world what real vampires are like. He and his vampire âbrethren.ââ She raises her index fingers and wiggles them at the word âbrethren.â Luciusâ face turns scary as Sheridan continues. âAnyhoo, I shot him and staked him, but only halfway. I figured youâd want to deal with him yourself.â
I hold my breath as Frangelico studies my girl, her car, and his fallen lieutenant. Now we see if heâll enforce his own rules.
The smile that breaks out on Luciusâ face makes me shiver. âWhy, thank you, my dear. It is so nice to meet a wolf who respects a treaty.â He motions to his bodyguards and they lumber forward, dragging the unconscious vampire out of the trunk and behind the building. They donât bother to be gentle.
âPoor Nero. So passionate and promising. I will have to punish him. And get to the bottom of this little coup.â Lucius touches his tongue to his fangs. He doesnât look upset at all.
âIâll let my alpha know the treaty still stands,â I say, and tug Sheridanâs arm. Time to go, before the vampire decides he is angry after all, and wants to punish more than just Nero.
Before she can turn and follow me, Lucius says, âIâve always loved she-wolves.â
I whirl with an insult ready, but Sheridan stops me with a hand on my chest. âI got this,â she tells me sweetly.
She smiles at the vampire, showing her fangs. âCareful. While we do appreciate your willingness to liaise with us, we donât always like vampires, and weâre not interested in playing victim. I wouldnât want you to end up with your head cut off because you looked at a she-wolf the wrong way.â
I stiffen, ready to fight. Sheridan just insulted a vampire king with a not-so-subtle threat.
Lucius Frangelico tosses back his head and laughs. We watch the pale column of his throat work, frozen in horror. Vampire laughter is the scariest fucking thing Iâve ever heard.
âLovely,â the leech says, shaking his head with glee. âJust lovely. Go now before I decide to keep you.â
Instead of driving home, I head for Gates Pass and cruise up to a scenic overlook. Day breaks, and for a while we donât speak, just watch the light and color unfurl over the valley. Sheridan slips her hand into mine. Fuck, this couldâve all gone down so much worse. But for now, I have my lady within reach and another beautiful day on the horizon.
Her hand strokes my hair. I capture it and nip her fingers until she laughs.
âWe did it,â she sighs, her outrageous dress rustling around her.
âYou did.â I kiss her fingers. â
? Let me guessâword of the day calendar?â Her smile is not only enough of an answer, it has my cock twitching.
Yeah, I want to tip her over the hood of the car and fuck her, dress and all, but weâve both been through a lot. First I want to watch the sunrise with my baby, get her soft and sweet. Then I can tie her to the bed and give her orgasms until she agrees to never leave me.
âClub will open soon,â I comment. âCops have no reason to keep it closed, now.â
âGood. I have big plans for it.â
My head is so caught up with whips and chains and what type of rope would be best on her soft wrists that I have to rewind her words until I hear them properly. Then I rewind them again. âExcuse me?â
She wrinkles her nose. âYou heard me. The concept is good, but you have a long way to go in execution. Fight Club could be awesome and legit, if we just implement a few safeguards.â
I lean back against my seat, stunned. âSo youâre staying?â
She blinks at me a few times. âWell, Garrett says I can only stay if you sponsor me.â She bats her eyes at me. âSo what do you say?â
I grin so wide my face hurts. âYou sure?â
She shrugs. âI never fit in with the Wolf Ridge pack. Just did a good job of faking it.â She crawls into my lap, big dress and all. My arms close around her like she was made to be here. âWith you, I donât have to fake it.â
âDamn right.â
She chuckles. âYou okay with me being here?â
âOh yeah.â My arms tighten around her. âNow I donât have to go with my other plan to get you to stay.â
âWhat plan?â
âNot gonna tell you. I might need it later, if you change your mind.â
âIâve made my decision. Iâm not going to change my mind.â
âWell, then I want to surprise you later.â I slide my hand over the gownâs tight bodice. âBut it involves that collar and leash and ball gag, if you must know.â
She giggles. âAwesome.â She cuddles closer, tucking her head under my chin.
âSo you want to work for Fight Club?â
âI already am.â She snuggles back into me and it takes me a moment to remember what we were talking about. âIâm going to take over the books and operations, but I canât stop serving behind the bar. At least, until I teach Luka to make change. You need me.â
âDamn right,â I murmur, liking the feel of her in my arms. âI think Iâll like being your boss.â
âBoss? No. I have a business and marketing degree and an MBA. Iâll be your boss.â She pushes up and meets my gaze fiercely.
âYou serious?â
âFuck yes,â she replies and despite myself I grin.
âYouâre cute when you swear. Say it again.â
âNo.â She settles back in my lap with a sigh.
âI bet I can get you to say it again,â I promise darkly.
She chuckles. âI look forward to having you try.â
The light slants across Treyâs face, gilding his features. I sigh a happy sigh. I donât know what Iâm more grateful to him for; helping me secure peace with the vampires, or getting me to stand up to my dad. Now I get sunrises and sunsets and all the hours in between with him. Heâs my reward.
âCan we stop by the club first? I need to take some measurements.â When he blinks at me, I continue, âFor the new layout Iâm going to design. Donât worry, we wonât implement all the changes at once. Weâll start with little upgrades the clients will appreciate. First is a new parking lotâIâm calling contractors tomorrow.â
âFuck me,â Trey groans.
âOh, thatâs also on the agenda. If youâre good, and no oneâs around, you can do me in the club, up against the chain link fence.â
He freezes, then grips my breast, hard. âIs that a promise?â
âWork hard, play hard.â
âCome on,â he growls. âI want to see what sort of sexy get up you got on under this dress.â
âOkay.â I grin at him and put my hand on his thigh as he puts my car in gear. I canât resist, but I wait until heâs about to turn back onto the road before leaning close to whisper in his ear, âIâm not wearing anything.â
